Gordon Cherry #5009439. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.811087). The Rochut editions of Bordogni’s vocalises have become the most widly used etudes in American trombone pedigogy. They are prized for their lyric beauty, and also for their development of endurance, upper range, legato technique, styling and more. Other bass clef instrumentalists use Rochut. These Twenty Counterparts may be practiced and played as etudes alone. They are similar in style to the Bordogni; some are harder and some are easier than the Bordogni originals. But the primary intent was for recreational duet playing and for the trombone studio. Duets are fun and more, contributing to sightreading, intonation, ensemble, style-matching, confidence, independence, etc. As with the piano accompaniments, the duet parts also enhance the original melodies. Based on the keyboard works of J. S. Bach, each of the Three Volumes is available in five different versions--Alto Trombone, Tenor Trombone, Bass Trombone, Euphonium, and Tuba. Each version is customized for the individual instrument (choice of key, range, ornaments, etc.). Tenor trombonists will find that the Alto version is excellent for high register practice and alto clef reading. Likewise, Tenor trombonists can use the Bass version for low register work. Bass trombonists will find excellent material in the Tenor version for work in the upper register and tenor clef reading. The Euphonium version is in the same key as the Tenor version, but all in bass clef, with many more trills added. The Tuba version is in the same key as the Bass version, also with more trills. Volume One contains Twenty-four études in all keys, based upon preludes from The Well-Tempered Clavier.

In making this version for the Tenor Trombone Mr. Sauer has used all of Telemann’s original tempos, slurs and dynamics, and expanded on these ideas when appropriate. This edition has been customized for the Tenor Trombone, ie., the keys have been changed from the original to best fit the tessitura of the instrument, breath marks added & ornaments used when appropriate. This edition can also be used by Bass Trombonists to work on their upper range and to improve Tenor Clef reading skills. For advanced performers.

Allegro scherando is playful with contrasting loud and soft sections that throw rhythmic curveballs to the listener with the odd 5/8 bar mixed in with 6/8 time.Movement 2. Andantino quasi lento is a slow lyrical movementMovement 3. Allegro moderato is sarcastic and march-like with off-balance rhythms including a 2-voice middle section that challenges the performer to convince the listener that there are two lines....a syncopated bass line and upper melody line.This outstanding work by Velázquez is about 5 1/2 minutes in length, appropriate for advanced performers.
