Symphony No. 4, also known by the composer himself as the Romantic was written in 1874, but revised several times and premiered in 1881 in Vienna. The subtitle actually does not refer to romantic love, but a medieval romance such as some of Wagner's operas.The movement titled Scherzo is full of adventure and vitality with a relaxed middle section. Bruckner himself hinted that the Scherzo movement was a Jadthema or hunting theme and Volkfest or people's festival. The hunting horns are calling, the brass are blowing their fanfares and it is a good day to be hunting. The main feeling from this movement is a strong feeling of the great outdoors.Mr. Johns has arranged this work for 14-part brass ensemble including optional Timpani.The instrumentation is: 4 Trumpets (including piccolo, C, B-flat and Flugelhorn) 4 Horns 4 Trombones, Euphonium and Tuba Timpani (optional)This work is suitable for advanced performers and is about 5 minutes in length.

Elizabeth Raum's Quintet for Brass was written in 1980 and is just now being published for the first time. The work is in four movements: 1. Prelude, 2. Scherzo and Blues, 3. Passacaglia and Fugue and 4. Rondo. It is written for traditional brass quintet with Trumpets in B-flat for advanced performers and is about 15 minutes in length. The music is very expressive and tonal. Below is a brief description of the work by the composer, Elizabeth Raum. This piece is very much based on various musical forms. The Prelude has opened many a musical work from Baroque to the present. Then follows Scherzo and Blues, a light hearted bonbon moving into a lazy blues. Next is pure Baroque starting with a Passacaglia followed by a Fugue based on the Passacaglia progression. And finally finishing up with the Rondo, in a major key, light-hearted, canonic in places, with a feeling of the evolution of musical form.

Giovanni Gabrieli's Canzon per sonar septimi toni à 8 (Ch. 171) is an instrumental work in 8 parts (2 choirs antiphonal) composed in 1597 as part of a collection of 45 motets titled Sacrae Symphoniae. These works were performed in St. Marks Basilica after Gabrieli returned to Venice to become the principal organist there and propelled him to become recognized as one of Europe's leading composers.The instrumental works of the Sacrae Symphoniae have been cherished by brass performers for many years now. Holst's 7-movement Suite, The Planets was written between 1914-16 and its first version was scored for two pianos except for the Neptune movement, which was written for organ alone. The music is the first ever composed with a fade-away ending using a womens' chorus. Later, Holst completed his orchestration of the 7-movement Suite, which has become one of the most popular works in the repertoire. Mr. Sauer has brilliantly scored this movement of about nine minutes in length for 14-part brass ensemble with Timpani and Glockenspiel. This concludes his arranging of the complete suite for Large Brass Ensemble. The entire 7-movement Suite is also available for sale as a complete set on our website. Instrumentation is for: 4 Trumpets in C 4 Horns in F 3 Trombones Euphonium, Tuba Timpani and Glockenspiel This music is appropriate for advanced performers.
