Published by Kathy Hirche (A0.820034). The Four Seasons is generally considered to be Vivaldi’s most famous work. It is a set of four concerti for Violin, each of the four representing one of the four seasons. A performance of the entire original set would take at least 40 minutes. This version is a collection of the main themes presented as a short suite and takes approximately 5 minutes to perform. Alternatively, each of the movements may be performed as a separate piece. The aim of this arrangement was to give Early Intermediate Level Woodwind and/or Brass players an opportunity to perform what is undoubtedly one of the most well-known pieces of Baroque string repertoire. The instrumentation is flexible, allowing for many different combinations of instruments, including Clarinet Trio/ Ensemble, Saxophone Trio/Ensemble, Brass Trio/Ensemble and even Concert Band. The Solo at the start of the 4th Movement (Winter) is an opportunity to feature a Part 1 player who is more advanced. The inclusion of this short section is entirely optional. Part 4 is optional and can be used to include a Tuba and/or less competent players of Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Tenor Saxophone and F Horn. The inclusion of a Tuba is preferable in the case of a large brass ensemble. The inclusion of a Bass Clarinet (Part 3 or 4) is preferable in a large clarinet ensemble. The score is shown in concert pitch. Octave displacement occurs in some parts. Parts 2, 3 and 4 are kept below the break for the Clarinet and/or Bass Clarinet players. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767268). As part of my continuing project to transcribe Monteverdi's madrigals onto winds, here is the 6th book. In this book we see a much greater development towards dramatic representation. In a way, this book is divisible into two Scenes with a number of single items in between. The vocal lines are all much more complex and we can also see the beginnings of monodic writing appear in the semi-recit sections of some of the songs. Also clearly developing are delineations of the voices into soloists and chorus. Several songs in this book are almost akin to arias, with clear soloistic writing for the higher voices (Cantus/Tenor). The first four songs form a kind of introductory 'scena', which Monteverdi calls Lamento d'Arianna. A little later, there is a set of 6 songs which he grouped together under the title Sestina. A Sestina is a complex poem made up of 6 stanzas each of 6 verses with rules regarding hoe the last line of the first verse is repeated. Obviously, we are not using the lyrics, but we need to be aware of the structure so that when the music reappears we can treat it appropriately. As with all things madrigalian, the lyrics are rife with double entendres, despite the fact that all of the lyrics deal with loss of one kind or another. Monteverdi uses some very close dissonances to describe death and release. Often with wrenching results for the harmony.Please note, there are two extra parts for No.13, which is for 7 voices. Part 6 is an Alto voice (Horn/Alto Sax/Clarinet) and part 7 is a tenor voice (Trombone/Baritone/Tenor Sax/Euphonium).

The duets have been written to be a comfortable range for any of the instruments (minus horn part, which is free due to the range issues). Each mode has it’s own unique sound and special effort has been made to accentuate the colors from each district combination of notes and the harmonies they produce (Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Locrian). The duets are mostly on an average high school level player, but can be a great challenge for younger players. More advanced musicians may find use specifically in the exploration of melody/harmony in each particular mode. This duet uses only six notes (C – A), and the rhythm has been simplified from the original so that it is easy to play. The body percussion stamp stamp clap rhythm can continue throughout the piece by another player or an audience if desired. Part A and Part B take turns at playing the melody and accompaniment, giving both players an interesting part. This duet is also available for other instruments all playing in Concert B-flat so that parts can be mixed with other instruments and in mixed instrumental group lessons. Bach's Trio Sonatas BWV 525-530 are some of the most popular and beloved works of the Baroque period. Composed in 1717, these six trio sonatas for the organ are among Bach's earliest works for the instrument. They are all in the traditional three-movement form and are composed in the style of the Italian concerto grosso, with two upper voices (treble and alto) and a basso continuo. The two upper voices often intertwine in intricate contrapuntal melodies, while the basso continuo provides harmonic support. The works are also full of virtuosic passages that demonstrate Bach's mastery of the organ. The Trio Sonatas are considered to be among the most important and influential works of the Baroque era, and they continue to be widely performed and studied today.The Bach Trio Sonatas have been successfully transcribed for a variety of ensembles, including wind, string, and brass ensembles. The parts are easily divided among a variety of wind instruments, including flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone. In these transcriptions, the original material is retained, but often with some additional orchestration or embellishment.
