Versatile Brass 'Old Time Favourites' CollectionThis is another popular song from the WW2 era, although it was written a few years before for a film of the same title.Sing As We Go is a 1934 British musical film starring Gracie Fields, John Loder and Stanley Holloway. The script was written by Gordon Wellesley and J. B. Priestley.Considered by many to be British music hall star Gracie Fields' finest vehicle, this film was written for her by leading novelist J.B. Priestley. In this morale-boosting depression movie, set in the industrial north of England, Fields stars as a resourceful, determined working class heroine, laid off from her job in a clothing mill, who has to seek work in the seaside resort of Blackpool. This gives her the opportunity both to fall into many misadventures and, of course, to sing.The decision to film on location brings the film a life and immediacy all too absent from most films of the period. The film provides us with a snapshot of life in a seaside resort in the 1930s. The final scene of the millworkers returning to the re-opened mill while Fields leads them in the rousing title song has become an almost iconic film cliché.This is a simple arrangement of the title song with the lead line on solo Cornet. There is a vocal part included if required.

Published by David Healy-Richards (A0.1015626). Moon Chasers is my third musical work and is dedicated to my Girlfriend who I met in the International Brass Band Summer School in Swansea in 2016. This piece of music is aimed at capturing the feeling of a young couple savouring the moment as they experience it. Not worrying about the future or the past just the here and now. I tried to capture this feeling with suspensions and utilising the different sections of the band. The intro represents the end of a manic day, driving home until A. Where the duet kicks in A melody and a counter-melody representing two young lovers. It starts as a minimalist quartet before the scoring becomes a lot thicker allowing more colours to come out. We hear echoes of the next section which starts at (D) with a rhythm that feels like its slightly behind the beat. It's a simple harmonic line but as it feels behind the beat this achieves a kind of euphoric feel to the music. This is then decorated by the twinkling stars that we here popping up every now and again which are represented by the Glockenspiel.

Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767277). As part of my continuing project to transcribe Monteverdi's madrigals onto winds, here is the 6th book. In this book we see a much greater development towards dramatic representation. In a way, this book is divisible into two Scenes with a number of single items in between. The vocal lines are all much more complex and we can also see the beginnings of monodic writing appear in the semi-recit sections of some of the songs. Also clearly developing are delineations of the voices into soloists and chorus. Several songs in this book are almost akin to arias, with clear soloistic writing for the higher voices (Cantus/Tenor). The songs starting from no 8 form a set of 6 to which Monteverdi gave a separate title Sestina Within this set of songs Monteverdi creates a little dramatic episode which foreshadows many of the developments that we find in his early operas: Monody/recitative, dialogue between chorus and soloist, a tendency to give the high parts strong melodic lines and a clear division of the roles of the singers. For the time being, until someone asks, I am not going to release the separate songs from Sestina individually as some of them are a little short. A sestina is a complicated verse form of six stanzas each of six lines with rules about repeating the last line of the first stanza. The poetic form is of little use to us as instrumentalists, but the dramatic mourning, cries of anguish and the feelings of loss embodied in the music will come through regardless of the lack of words. As with all things madrigalian, the lyrics are rife with double entendres.

With all of these things, although I do come up with my own ideas, you don't really come up with a good one unless you talk it through with them and the vision they've got. It was quite obvious, the historical approach they were going for. What's interesting is that the first series, the medieval one with 'Richard the Fourth', was much more filmic and much more historical. That's why we ended up with that tune. Whereas had the first series been the Elizabethan one, the theme would have been slightly gentler, less heroic. .

Published by Nathan Grocholski (A0.1123447). The basis of this piece was centered around the complex emotions of cats in which we observe in our every day lives. With regards to this piece especially, there were three cats that I based this composition on, and their names are Storm, Zany and Tremor. Each miniature is a representation of a certain type of emotion that each of these cats is known for expressing. The first movement is for my favorite cat, Storm, and is titled, “Precious Storm.†Going back to my earliest memories of writing songs, I re-translated an old tune that I used to sing into a brass quintet miniature and dedicated to him, for he is the best cat. The second miniature is titled, “Mouse on a String,†and is supposed to portray the same energy that one would see from a cat in chase of a toy mouse being constantly propelled around the air from one end of a string, which is one of Storm’s favorite things to do. The third movement is called “Zany the Scaredy-Cat,†which is exactly the type of cat that Zany is. Always fearful and skittish, Zany sneaks around the house to avoid human contact at all costs. The fourth movement is titled “You Stuck, Zany?†This is named after a short video clip in which Zany finds herself stuck in the fireplace and struggling to get out. Once she frees herself, she runs away as fast as she can. The fifth movement is called “Passive-Aggressive Tremor†for the final cat, Tremor. Tremor likes to instigate conflicts with the other cats, but once the tension arises, he backs away, which can also be heard within the intense build ups and anti-climatic drops within the music as well. Finally, the sixth movement is called, “King Tremor,†in which is the boldest sounding of all the pieces, for when it does come to conflict, it is usually Tremor who comes out on top, outsmarting the other two cats.

The theme song is sung by the American singer Billie Eilish. In January 2019, Eilish told her management that she wanted to be involved if any Bond things come up…whatever we have to do we will do. When the opportunity did arise, the pair jumped into action to book a recording studio, but it left them intensely uninspired and suffering from writer's block. Following this lacklustre day in the studio and they ended up writing and recording the song in a tour bus in Texas, after Finneas came up with an initial chord progression; in just three days the song was written and recorded. Prior to this, the siblings had a meeting with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, who sent them the script for the opening scene in order to give them a bit of inspiration, which Eilish said was so cool and really, really helpful.Finneas claimed it was useful to go back to listen to previous Bond themes to ensure they were on the right track and did not copy or recreate something which had already been done before, adding that there are few things in your career that are as desirable as doing a Bond song. We did not take the opportunity lightly and worked as hard as we could to prove ourselves. This publication includes full four-part instrumental scores plus parts for 1st B flat trumpet, 2nd B flat trumpet, horn in F (with a separate optional part for horn in E flat), trombone and/or tuba. The tuba part is also optional because it either doubles the trombone part or plays an octave below. Both trombone and tuba parts appear on a single staff in the bass clef at concert pitch. The arrangements can be used with brass quartet, brass quintet or brass ensemble. There’s also an optional but useful simplified keyboard part intended for less experienced keyboard players. The left hand plays only the bass part most of the time, with the right hand part kept as simple as possible. It first appeared as a hymn tune in William Walker's compilation Southern Harmony in 1835. It has been used to set many hymn texts over the years, including How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds, Forgive Our Sins as We Forgive, and O Tell Me Where the Dove has Flown.
