Your Favorite Christmas Hymns and Carols for Brass, Book 1Arranged for brass by Colin Kirkpatrick Here’s a brand new collection of best-loved Christmas hymns and carols arranged for brass, to brighten up your next Christmas event. They are presented in a set of two books and include full four-part instrumental scores plus parts for 1st B flat trumpet, 2nd B flat trumpet, horn in F (with a separate optional part for horn in E flat), trombone and/or tuba. The tuba part is also optional because it either doubles the trombone part or plays an octave below. Both trombone and tuba parts appear on a single staff in the bass clef at concert pitch. The arrangements can be used with brass quartet, brass quintet or brass ensemble. There’s also an optional but useful simplified keyboard part intended for less experienced keyboard players. The left hand plays only the bass part most of the time, with the right hand part kept as simple as possible. It could be used as the basis of an accompaniment which means that you can use the arrangements as solos, duets or trios.The arrangements are intended either as stand-alone pieces that could be used as interludes in a concert or service, or they could be used to accompany solo, choral or congregational singing. The arrangements been written in brass-friendly keys as often as possible. While the hymns mostly use the traditional harmonies, the carols have been treated more freely. This brass choir arrangement set for an orchestral brass section of Coleridge-Taylor's Sea Drift captures the subtle textures of the composer’s chromatic harmonies inspired in his original vocal octet setting of a poem by T. B. Aldrich. Born of an African father, Coleridge-Taylor was an early 20th century English composer and conductor who was an influential advocate for Black composers. One of Coleridge-Taylor's rare A Cappella compositions for vocal SATB double choir here arranged for large brass ensemble, Sea Drift is infused with descriptive tone-color painting highlighting the tragic story of the merchant sailor who perishes in a stormy sea to the despair of his lover onshore. Richard Jones #5968417. Published by Richard Jones (A0.1026133). Until the 1970s the Minuet in G Major was attributed to the great Johann Sebastian Bach. For centuries musicologists believed it was an original composition as it was a part of the manuscript notebook compiled by Bach and his wife Anna Magdalena Bach, in 1725.Petzold was born in Konigstein, Germany, in 1677 and little is known about his exact birth date. Relatively few pieces ofhis have survived the centuries, but the inclusion of his two minuets in the Anna Magdalena Notebook, remain the most famous of these.The theme to the Minuet in G was used in 1966 by the American pop group The Toys, in their song 'A Lover's Concerto'.In this arrangement I have syncopated the theme and accompanying parts to create a jazz feel. From letter A the theme appears in the cornet and euphonium lines and then at letter B the theme is transferred to the horn section. Whilst the theme is in the horn section there is a counter riff in the baritones and trombones, and a simple jazz syncopation in the cornets. At C the key changes to the sub-dominant key of C and the back row cornets get the tune in a simple but syncopated form whilst a flowing counter melody continues in the lower instruments. Then at D the euphoniums, baritones and basses have their chance and the syncopation appears in the horns and interjections in the cornets. After the D.S the the piece goes to the Coda, which hasthe tune split between each of the sections of the band with a fortissimo climax.

Michael Philip Batt, LVO (born 6 February 1949) is an English singer-songwriter, musician, arranger, record producer, director, conductor and former Deputy Chairman of the British Phonographic Industry. Having achieved substantial international success as a solo artist he is particularly known in the UK for creating The Wombles pop act, writing many hits including the chart-topping Bright Eyes, and discovering Katie Melua. He has also conducted many of the world's great orchestras, including the London Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony and Stuttgart Philharmonic in both classical and pop recordings and performances.Bright Eyes is a song written by Mike Batt and performed by Art Garfunkel. It was written for the soundtrack of the 1978 British animated adventure drama film Watership Down. Rearranged as a pop song from its original form in the film, the track appears on British and European versions of Garfunkel's 1979 Fate for Breakfast and on the US versions of his 1981 album Scissors Cut. It was the biggest-selling single of 1979 in the UK, remaining at number one for six weeks and selling over a million copies there. Richard Adams, author of the original novel is reported to have hated the song. A cover of the song was later used in the television series of the same name explicitly as its theme song.Here is a lovely version thereof for a brass quintet and drum set, with the euphonium as soloist in the verses, harmonising by the French horn, muted 2nd trumpet for effects, the first trumpet in the choruses and the tuba supporting with excellent base lines. Your audiences will be intrigued, wanting to hum along!
