Fanfarra Ciclópica is inserted in the cycle Imaginary Beings, being the 5th composition of this cycle. It is based on the story of Ulysses and his men when confronted with the Cyclops Polyphemus. It was written for the 1st Academy of Metals of the Symphonic Orchestra of Porto Casa da Música, and was premiered in 2013 by the septet of metals of the Symphony Orchestra based at the institution. This work was nominated by the Portuguese Society of Authors for the Prize of best author of 2013, in the category of Erudite Music. The piece has a text for optional narrator.

At the end of most of the episodes from the 1978 TV Series, The Incredible Hulk, the main character, David Banner, is shown leaving whatever town or city he was in, walking alone down the highway, sometimes hitch-hiking, as he has typically destroyed buildings, human lives, and relationships as his Hulk persona earlier in the episode and can no longer show his face in town. The music that accompanies this ending scene is the tragic and sad The Lonely Man. It is so stereotypically and overly dramatic, that it has become something of an internet meme, being featured on an episode of Family Guy as well as numerous Youtube videos. This setting for brass quintet stays faithful to the original version for solo piano by Joe Harnell and captures the mournful and sad atmosphere perfectly.

It serves the needs of both the beginner and professional brass player with several categories of exercises that are arranged from the most simple to the most challenging. Unlike the one size fits all typical band instruction methods, this caters just to the brass section and should be an important supplement for the student to use at in-home practice. These four volumes are also published separately for the student to download or the teacher may distribute copies for students from this four volume set. Certain accommodations have been made for the F Horn so that all instruments may play in unison but the director should feel to make adjustments as needed.

Grant Horsley #1013929. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.1433697). A Hunky punk is a grotesque carving on the side of a building, typically found on Mid/ Late medieval churches in the UK. They are plentiful in Somerset in the West Country of England Though similar in appearance to a gargoyle, a hunky punk is purely decorative and has no other functional purpose whatsoever!! Unlike the gargoyle, which serves to drain water off the roof through its mouth.The theory behind hunky punks and grotesques in general, was that churches were designed to reflect the balance between good and evil, reminding worshippers of the narrow path leading through life. As a result, for every saint or animal that was intended to signify purity and ‘goodness’, there was also an ugly creature to signify evil and ‘badness’. Scored for 2 Trumpets in B flat, Horn in F, 2 Trombones and Tuba. This piece is in concert C minor and begins with a medieval type of fanfare which occurs throughout. What follows is a haunting theme with lots of flattened 5ths and several discords to represent the uncomfortable nature of this statue. The staccato and accent direction in most of the piece gives the impression of walking on eggshells not knowing what lies around the corner! Then a brief legato section of the fanfare appears to provide a calmer atmosphere before eventually returning to the main theme and big ending. Set at Advanced intermediate level although an intermediate player maybe fine with it. However, the youtube link has the full score for you to assess suitability. It is around 4 mins 30 in length and would be a great addition to a repertoire.Price is for the full score and parts.

It's not too hard, but beginners beware, it's a bit beyond basic entry level horn playing. There are not a lot of horn arrangements out there like this one. This arrangement helps fill a niche for small ensemble in that horn quartet music typically lacks repertoire in most contemporary and jazz genres.If you're reading this in the future, this was one of the most popular songs of the year 2020! This arrangement is my take on it for quartet, semi-faithful to the original song with a bit of a jazzy twist. Score, parts and cover arts included. The Dutch Composer, Johan B Kok (1889-1954), wrote over two- hundred compositions for different combinations of instruments, all of which included the Mandolin or the Mandolin Orchestra. ‘Joska’, originally written for two Mandolins, Mandola and Guitar, bears the subtitle and style of the ‘Zigeuner Romance’ or ‘Gypsy Romance’, and it may well have been inspired by Monti’s better known ‘Czardas’, which, significantly, was also originally written for Mandolin and Piano. Both pieces have contrasting slow and fast sections, which is typical of Central European ‘tavern music’, commonly associated with Hungary. ‘Czardas’, of course, means ‘tavern’ in Hungarian.

The greatest church in the greatest city of Europe. Freedom of intellectual thought. A Venetian School of composers at the forefront of musical innovation. The printing press and musical publishing. A Doge (Chief Magistrate or Duke) willing to spend, and spend big, on musical pomp and ceremony. A dearth of wealth and money to fund the grandest celebrations. He was the leading Italian composer and organist in Venice at its greatest heights at the chasm between the end of the Renaissance and the beginning of the Baroque period in music. Presented here is a large Canzona published around 1597 for 15 brass in 3 choirs. A variety of substitute parts are also included to handle trombone parts with Bb trumpets and F Horns. One of Gabrieli’s more beautiful and triumphant works, this piece starts out with a somber harmonic display that soon turns major alternating between the choirs. A brief chanson-like dance interlude then leads to the triumphant finale. A great work that displays the full harmonic range of the brass with many of Gabrieli’s typical antiphonal effects.

The result, for Sasha, is a brass sextet far more emotionally deep than the typical literature. A brief introduction of materials segues into movements one and two that explore the mental confusion and memories of Sasha's passing, including little nonsense songs I used to sing to him. The third movement explores my anger and then segues into the last movement where a resolution is never quite reached.This is beautiful and challenging music.
