My Mother had some sad news to give me. Dad was very ill. My whole life flashed before me. My parents were always 200% supportive of all my artistic endeavors. None of my success would have been possible but for my Dad and Mom. My memories of my Dad and my Mom flooded my mind like a deluge. When I heard the news about how gravely ill he was I thought to myself that so often we give thanks, honor, or show our love when it is too late. Who wants to be that person? I was finally in the unique position to show my gratitude and love to my parents in the most special way that I could - through music from my heart and soul. I got the courage to look deeply within and then I began to write what was to become the first and second songs, respectively Tears from My Eyes: Remember Your Feelings and Tears from My Eyes: Reflection and Contemplation on my Tears from My Eyes: Songs from my Soul album.You will now be able to do just the same for your loved ones with this new music. Your intermediate level to advanced students and even professional musicians should find this to be a welcomed piece to learn and master. It looks deceptively simple but the learning and challenge comes from two smaller sub-ensembles playing together in their own collective units legato con moto while playing together as a whole music ensemble Everyone will enjoy and bathe in the beautiful harmonies that will resonate when the entire music ensemble begins to listen to each while playing together as a group. Your musicians will hone their skills in playing together with just the right balance that this song requires. Your musicians will also hone their skills for subdividing and maintaining an inner beat that is in sync with your conducting because there is no percussion and the notes are freely flowing on and off the down beat yet not sounding heavily syncopated when performed. When will you know when you have achieved the right balance and flow of the music? You will know when, because you will hear it and feel it when it comes into place. But I can help you with all of this with what I have to offer you today. I share with you now the final and 5th movement to Tears from my Eyes - Onward and Upward (for String Orchestra). This particular was created and produced after the Songs from My Soul album was sent for distribution. So, this song has yet to be officially released. All five movements will be released as an album Mourning in the Rain. This 5th movement Onward and Upward has a decisive emotional resolution and conviction in its pathos. It has long been accepted practice that, after first position, the next positions a violin or viola student learns are third and fifth positions. There is a good reason for studying the odd-numbered positions first. The body of the instrument and the crook of the neck provide solid reference points for finding these positions. Hamonically, first, third, and fifth position outline the triad, the foundation of Western tonal music. The fingering of fifth position matches first position, making it easy to learn. It is unfortunate that this focus on third and fifth position has often been at the cost of any discussion of the even positions: 2, 4, 6, and 8. This is evident in the traditional etudes and study material available for violin and viola. With the new tonal demands of twentieth and twenty-first century music, knowledge and familiarity with the entire fingerboard has become essential.LIke the relationship in fingering between first and third position, the same relationship can be found between second and sixth and fourth and eighth positions. We have chosen to introduce these positions together, with melodies that can be played in both positions. Shifting exercises between the even positions are also provided. We hope teachers and students will find this material useful.

Vivaldi’s violin concerto in D major, RV 208, survives in three manuscripts:Vivaldi’s autograph score, conserved in Turin.A copy of the parts, conserved in the Landesbibliothek Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Günther Uecker [de] in Schwerin.Another copy of the parts conserved in Cividale del Friuli.The Grosso Mogul title appears on the Schwerin manuscript, which was written before 1717. According to Michael Talbot, the name of the concerto can possibly be linked to Domenico Lalli’s Il gran Mogol opera libretto, a setting of which had been presented in Naples in 1713. These techniques include spiccato bowing, trills, and ornamentation. Development of such delicate techniques should be supervised by an experienced violin teacher. Although The Faerie Fiddler is not intended to be an etude book, I hope these elfin solos and duos will be enjoyed by both student and teacher as supplemental repertory. This complete anthology contains 15 solo pieces and 5 violin duos. Front matter is appended to the back. I've endeavored to channel mischievous Puck to sprinkle magic juice on tricky techniques by writing interesting pieces that (1) captivate the player while maintaining simple forms; (2) use woodland imagery; and (3) introduce traditional dance forms. Whimsical verses accompany the pieces and serve to (1) introduce each piece; (2) identify and highlight specific techniques (3) encourage observation of what the music is doing; (4) cast humor on the process, so that student, teacher, and writer are accomplices in the same game. The faerie fiddler techniques are reinforced throughout the book (all pieces except Raucous Rondo include spiccato bowing). Clarity and consistency are maintained in the expression markings so that the student will know when and when not to play off the string (only notes with dots are to be played off the string). The solo pieces and the Violin 2 parts of the duos are written in first position. Violin 1 parts of the duos use third position. Duo 4, Just a Dream, also uses fifth position in the upper part. Though the pieces are short and may look easy, their execution offers challenges, given the transparency of the spiccato bowing and ornamentation techniques. I hope The Faerie Fiddler will provide an enjoyable supplement to spiccato, trills, and ornamentation studies. The sample audio file presented here is the Elf Queen's Waltz.

This is a three movement pantonal work for unaccompanied solo violin. Each movement has it's own personality and character. The first begins freely and expressively in the beginning and builds momentum to a somewhat sporadic series of various motivic manipulations, ending in an aggressive, accelerating repetition of the motif, which can be heard in various places of the following two movements. The second movement, somewhat more quirky, is meant to provoke a sense of temporary confusion and disorientation. The pizzicato open G in the first few measures is the disorienting element, interrupting the melody every few beats. The rest of the piece gradually becomes more and more playful before slowing down as if unsure what lies ahead.The third movement is the shortest of the three. It begins very eerily and slightly chilling with a downward glissando on artificial and natural harmonics. It almost seems as if a character in a story is lost in an unfamiliar place, trying to find the way home. As the movement progresses, it builds in expression and intensity the way a light in the distance becomes closer as one walks closer to it. From this climax, to the end, it becomes gradually softer and slower, mimicking the burning embers of a dying fire, reminiscing of warmth and comfort.

This hymn is available as a violin duet, or a cello duet, or as a violin and cello duet, all with piano accompaniment. The piano meanders through the first verse, then becomes a soft, mellow pattern in the second verse. The third verse is strong, with the ending getting slower and softer, with the meandering piano again. I've kept the melody simple so it can be easily heard. This would be appropriate for any worship service. Hope you like it!
