Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is significant in the history of music for several reasons: It is the first complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass by a single composer that has survived. It is a unified mass, meaning the composer selected relevant chants for each section as the borrowed tenor. It was composed in four voices, which was unusual at the time. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q2779). Hermann Schroeder (1904–1984) ranks among the major German organ composers of the 20th century, being an excellent organist himself. Many of his more than 100 organ works deal with themes of the Gregorian chorale which Schroeder appreciated very much. The chorale's modal diatonicism which is freer and different than the later major-minor tonality establishes a perfect symbiosis with the free tonality of the contemporary composer. Among the church modes, the 'tonus peregrinus' is the most interesting because it has two alternating reciting tones and therefore does not fit into the common pattern of the eight church modes. Since it 'modulates', it is a stranger, a 'peregrinus', among the tones – and therefore of special interest to composers. It forms the basis of the old Gregorian Magnificat, Bach used it in his Magnificat, Mozart in the introit of his requiem. Schroeder used the tonus peregrinus to achieve interesting harmonic and tonal effects, thus creating a virtuoso cycle of ten effective and colourful variations. A rewarding piece for church services and concerts.

It is written on four staves to make it easier to read because three staves required too many confusing clef changes and other indications on the score. It needs to be played with expression and feeling. However, if two staves are preferred, it is also the second variation of my 'Air and Variations On a Gaelic Melody', in which it is written on two staves.

Over the past couple of years I have written a number of film music transcriptions on and for the organ of the Royal Albert Hall in London. While the transcriptions are written with this organ in mind, often calling for specific colours such as the bass drum, carillons or tubular bells, they are adaptable on a number of different instruments and I’ve loved tweaking them in order to play them on organs all across the world. I hope you enjoy playing them as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them! When I was a teenager, my dad and brother would often choose the films we’d watch. When they chose Pirates of the Caribbean I was a bit sceptical at first because I thought it might be too scary, but I quickly fell in love with the film and its soundtrack – it became my favourite film series and I ended up listening to the soundtrack almost every day on the walk to and from school. In the films, the character of Davy Jones plays an iconic organ on his ship, the Flying Dutchman – I think it’s one of the most well-known organ references in contemporary cinema, and so it is one of my most requested pieces. I I also love the fact that Hans Zimmer includes a little nod to Bach’s Toccata in D minor, another piece which sits at the top of my request list. In the film, the start and end of this piece is played by a musical locket, perfectly replicated by the Celeste stop on the organ, although if a Celeste stop isn’t available then a soft 8’ flute would do the job!  - Anna Lapwood.

Although I don't play it very often, it has become a popular piece at my own church attracting quite a number of humorous (in a complimentary way) comments because, when played on the organ it reminds people of the fairground!!! In 2016, I wrote half the variations and improvised the remaining ones. By 2019, I was determined to compose the rest so that they could be learned by other organists. I also changed the title to Six Settings for Organ on Amazing Grace because I mostly varied the accompaniments rather than the theme. What sets this work apart from other composers' versions is its key, G-flat major. Although it is rarely used in organ literature, it is a personal favorite key of mine, and I consider it a good challenge for the performing artist. Not only is the key unusual, but I have also incorporated some original idioms including a flutter figure on a light stop against the theme on a chime stop and a mysterious sounding introduction including chromatic scales. Aside from these original ideas, I have borrowed techniques from the works of Dave Brubeck, Chopin and Bach. .

It later became the anthem of several African countries, and during the presidency of Nelson Mandela, it was folded into the South African national anthem. The song had been banned during the apartheid years because of its association with the ANC. It was the South African counterpart to the role played by We Shall Overcome in the Civil Rights struggle in the U.S. These gentle. reflective variations for organ are appropriate at any time of year, but especially during Black History Month. I wrote this piece to honor the African immigrant families in the church I serve as music director.

The chorale tune is presented twice in the right hand part and it alternates with the phrases of the refrain. In the first verse the melody is played by a solo voice but the second time the texture thickens into three-note chords. It also reaches climax because the range and dynamic level increases but the piece ends quietly as in the beginning. This composition will be very effective in liturgical organ playing and recital programs.

The concept is by the men doing their job of performing crucifixions seem to have had no idea who was one of the men they were to crucify that day--Jesus was just another victim of their day's work. The voix celeste is indicated because if this were orchestrated in the baroque period, the accompanying figure would be strings so it is here. Great for congregations where music is restricted to hymns people know, also good for students learning use of pedalboard because slow meter yet relatively constant movement. My Prelude on the Christmas carol tune Stille Nacht (Silent Night) was created with a 3-manual organ in mind, though it might be possible to play it on a 2-manual instrument, depending on the stop list. The three different settings of the tune are intended to be played as a unit, though the cadence that concludes the second setting allows the performer the option of omitting the final setting. The tune appears first in the left hand, then in the pedals, and finally in the soprano voice. The middle setting, in the dominant key, is harder to play than the outer sections, primarily because of the trio texture and quicker rhythmic movement. As one might expect, the three settings are distinguished from one another primarily by their accompanimental styles and suggested registrations. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music DIrect website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

I decided to dedicate this piece to him because of Ausra's and my upcoming concert at St Paul's.This composition is based on the Ad te levavi Gregorian chant Introit for the 1st Sunday in Advent. It has 10 sections - each section for one chorale phrase. Basically, it's a series of multiple canons in augmentation, double augmentation and quadruple augmentation.The registration is done for at least a two-manual organ in mind.The fast sixteenth-note episode alternates with the slower quarter-note motion.Advanced level. PDF score. 10 pages. Duration - 9 minutes.
