Published by Phil Beaman (A0.1134049). 3 Pieces for Beginning Organist is a collection of 3 pieces which could conveniently be used as a Prelude, Offertory, and Postlude. Intended for the Beginning Organist, all pieces are written in Classical style, all are in Rounded Binary form (ABA), all are in the Key of C, all have very limited pedal use. In other words, these pieces are perfect to have in your repertoire when you need something to pull out at the last minute. Prelude - Soldier's Fanfare is an energetic organ fanfare made up of triads, scales, and arpeggios in very basic form. Pedaling is mostly on the chord root and usually changes just once per bar, and there is no pedaling at all during the middle Swell section. 2 pages, 1:30 minutes Offertory - Music Box Minuet is a delightful Organ Solo for manuals/hands (no pedal part). Both hands are in the Treble Clef. The RH has the melody of mostly quarter notes (crotchets) played on a Flute stop. The LH has mostly 2 note chords, one chord per bar, played on Strings. The A Theme is in 4/4 and the B Theme in 3/4. Each Theme is repeated. 1 page, 1 minute Postlude - Classical Euphoria is an Organ Solo of pure fun. Euphoria--a temporary feeling of excessive happiness and intense joy. That certainly describes this piece of music. This piece puts a smile on my face every time. And it is definitely classical. It is in the Key of C with broken triads and is in Rounded Binary form. The B theme is minor but still happy and energetic. The complete song is Intro-AABBAA-Coda. There is no pedal part except a drone in the Coda. 1 page, 1 minute Each of these three pieces may also be purchased separately on this site.

He was born in Speinshart, some 150 km from Nuremberg, but spent most of his life in Augsburg, where he worked as cathedral organist for two years. His only surviving music is a 1693 collection, Ars Magna Consoni et Dissoni, which includes toccatas, Magnificat versets and variations in south German style. Speth was born in Speinshart, Bavaria, to teacher Heinrich Speth and his wife Margareta (née Vichtl). Past scholars established that Speth must have received music lessons from the abbot of the Premonstratensian monastery at Speinshart, one Dominikus Lieblein, however, this has recently been disproven. Nothing is known about his life before 1692, when he applied for the position of organist of Augsburg Cathedral. The application, which contained Speth's compositions, was accepted, and he was appointed organist on 4 November 1692. The music he supplied with the application was published the next year in Augsburg as Ars magna Consoni et Dissoni. In the files of the cathedral administration there is a note from 1705 showing that Speth had also to work in the office of the cathedral chapter. The exact date of Speth's death is unknown, but there is a document that shows that in 1719, he still lived with his wife and a maidservant in Augsburg. The composer's only surviving work is the collection published in 1693 in Augsburg, Ars magna Consoni et Dissoni. The title may be a reference to Athanasius Kircher's famous book, Musurgia universalis, sive ars magna consoni et dissoni (1650). An early description of the work was included by Johann Gottfried Walther in his Musikalisches Lexicon; Walther claimed Speth only compiled the pieces but did not compose. This hypothesis is now generally considered false. Ars Magna contains music intended for organ or clavichord: 10 toccatas (subtitled Musicalische Blumen-Felder), 8 Magnificat settings, and three variation sets. The music has clearly traceable Italian influences, with direct borrowings: one of the variation sets is built on a theme by Bernardo Pasquini, there is also a passage from Bernardo Storace in the Spangioletta variation set, and a verset by Alessandro Poglietti (quinti toni no. 3). The influence of contemporary southern organists is also apparent, particularly that of Georg Muffat and Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer. The toccatas are unusually short for the genre; most consist of three (toccata-fugue-toccata) sections. There are some interesting features such as dynamic indications in Toccata quarta. The Magnificat settings are, like similar pieces by Johann Kaspar Kerll and others, short versets for alternatim practice.

The work alternates between 6/8 and 3/4 time throughout, but is composed to fit well under the fingers. This was written in thanks to Lithuanian organist Vidas Pinkevicius, who has been a huge proponent of my works. It was written and recorded on a two manual instrument. It was recorded here with no registration changes, but there are plenty of options for that with multiple keyboards and presets! The B theme is minor but still happy and energetic. The complete song is Intro-AABBAA-Coda. The is no pedal part except a drone in the Coda. Born and raised in Cyprus, an isolated Mediterranean island-state in Europe where the religious musical tradition (Greek Orthodox Christianity) relies solely on voices (no instruments used during services), I never had access to an Organ. In fact, to the best of my knowledge, there’s not a single Organ in my entire country. The first time I ever saw one was during my college years in New York – and it was love at first sight! I was fascinated by its sound capabilities, its mechanism, and the sheer skill required to play it. You can, therefore, understand how thrilled I am to have had the opportunity to write for this great instrument. I would like to sincerely thank Shannon Murphy and Austin Philemon for believing in my work, and for commissioning this piece. Both the Toccata and the Fugue are based on the same (but altered) motivic materials. The Toccata is a piece that was inspired by the idea that life is a continuous marathon, represented by the ‘mechanical’ sixteenth-note ostinato figure which never stops – despite the contrapuntal obstacles that are thrown within its path. The motive, however, does transform and adapt along the way, in order to make the best of the situation. The Fugue, on the other hand, represents the cerebral aspect of life: the concept of choices. The ostinato motive of the Toccata has now morphed into the subject of the Fugue, which will be attacked by some violent chromatic enemies. COME WITH JOY is a wedding suite containing a bridesmaids' processional (REGENCY), bridal fanfare and march (SONG OF JOY), and a bright, quickly paced recessional (FESTIVE PSALM), which incorporates the melodies of the first two processionals in the B section. The bridal fanfare and bridal march was written for our daughter's wedding and later the other two were written in complimentary keys to complete the suite. Each piece may also be used separately, however, and do not have to be used together. This suite answers the need of brides who wish to have new music to use for her special day. With this suite, even though it was written as a cohesive group, the bride may choose to use as many or as few as she wishes and the bridal march with fanfare is certainly worth a consideration!An audio file of Song of Joy is included here to give you an idea of the flavor of the suite. It is the bridal march with fanfare. The recessional, FESTIVE PSALM, is lengthy and can accommodate large wedding parties without continuous repetition of the main theme. There are several sections in the work, keeping the interest level high because there's no continuous repetition of one main theme. For smaller wedding parties, where less exit music is needed, there are markings of suggested jump spots so that an entire section, or sections, can be omitted. The fact that two of the themes are taken from the previous two processionals ties the music together into an exciting cohesive unit. The music in this suite can also be used for church or school graduations, anniversaries, service music in church settings and other occasions.Regarding difficulty, the manuals require intermediate skills, but the pedals are fairly easy. Most organists who have experience in playing for weddings will be able to handle the techniques required for this suite.

Music Box Minuet is a delightful Organ Solo for manuals/hands (no pedal part). It is in the Key of C and both hands are in the Treble Clef. The RH has the melody of mostly quarter notes (crotchets) played on a Flute stop. The LH has mostly 2 note chords, one chord per bar, played on Strings. It is in traditional Rounded Binary Form, with the A Theme in 4/4 and the B Theme in 3/4. Each Theme is repeated. In other words, this is a very accessible piece for any organist; perfect for your organ offertory repertoire that can be pulled out at the last minute, but charming enough for concert or recital. 1 page, 1 minute This piece is also in the booklet 3 Pieces for Beginning Organist which contains a prelude, offertory, and postlude; also available on this site.
