Questa suite d'organo è composta da quattro brani: Preludio, Andante, Scherzo e Finale. Si tratta di una breve composizione dal linguaggio tonale armonico con alcune escursioni verso toni estranei alla tonalità del sistema, ma tutto nel limite e nel rispetto dell'ascoltatore che non viene assolutamente attaccato con un'armonia troppo dissonante. Il Preludio e il Finale sono caratterizzati da piccoli elementi virtuosistici. L'andante ha un percorso molto cantabile, dove l'esecutore può mettere in risalto tutta la sua musicalità . Infine, lo Scherzo ha un carattere giocoso e scivola via senza particolari difficoltà . Nella partitura ho preferito scrivere solo le indicazioni dinamiche e lasciare libero il campo all'esecutore per la scelta dei registri e la scelta su quali manuali eseguire i brani.

Questa raccolta di dieci brani per organo, concepita tra il 2021 e il 2023, rappresenta un passo significativo nel mio percorso compositivo. Manualiter volume II costituisce la continuazione di un viaggio musicale compositivo iniziato con la mia prima raccolta dall’omonimo titolo. Ogni brano è una riflessione sulla potenza espressiva dell'organo, guidata principalmente dai manuali e con l'uso parsimonioso dei pedali. Attraverso queste miniature organistiche, cerco di comunicare la mia visione della musica, invitando gli interpreti e gli ascoltatori ad immergersi in un'esperienza emotiva unica. La sequenza di brani inizia con la complessa Ciaccona palindroma, seguita dalla Ciaccona sopra DCHLA, il cui tema si basa sulle iniziali del mio nome e cognome, conferendo un carattere personale e distintivo. Cantabile d'affetto ed Elevazione introducono emozioni intense e profonde, mentre la Toccata aggiunge dinamismo e vitalità . Herzlich tut mich verlangen merita una menzione speciale. Questo brano è un corale seguito da due variazioni, con il tema tratto dal famoso corale della tradizione luterana dedicato al tempo di passione. Le variazioni esplorano le sfumature emotive del tema, offrendo un viaggio attraverso interpretazioni ricche e personali. La Toccata breve e il Canto di Pace presentano contrasti significativi, evidenziando la mia volontà di esplorare una vasta gamma di atmosfere ed emozioni. Inoltre Canto di Pace è un omaggio musicale alle vittime dell'attacco del 07 ottobre 2023 in Israele, un tentativo di commemorare coloro che hanno perso la vita in quel tragico evento attraverso la potenza emotiva della musica. Le Partite sopra In dulci jubilo si ispirano al corale natalizio della tradizione luterana In dulci jubilo e sono articolate in quattro variazioni, ognuna unica        nel suo approccio e nell'esplorare le possibilità sonore dell'organo. Infine c’è il brano U vaqa Sënd Vit, che tradotto dall'arbëresh significa Sono andato a San Vito. Questo brano è un omaggio alle mie origini arbëresh e trae ispirazione da un canto popolare della comunità arbëresh di Greci ed è dedicato al Cavaliere della Repubblica dott. Bartolomeo Zoccano che tanto si è prodigato per la diffusione della cultura arbëresh. La composizione adotta la forma della variazione, esplorando le potenzialità di questo canto tradizionale attraverso il linguaggio ricco ed evocativo dell'organo. Manualiter volume II rappresenta il frutto del mio impegno e della mia passione per l'arte dell'organo. Confido che questa raccolta possa essere accolta con la stessa gioia e apprezzamento con cui è stata creata, offrendo un viaggio musicale che va oltre le note, esplorando le profondità dell'anima attraverso le tastiere e i pedali dell'organo, e trovi un luogo speciale nei cuori degli organisti, degli appassionati di musica e di tutti coloro che cercano un'esperienza musicale significativa e avvincente.

Alternativ sind diese Kompositionen auch als Nachspiele zu verwenden. Teilweise eignen sich diese auch als Vorbereitung auf das Gemeindelied vor dem Gottesdienst Ich hoffe sehr, dass euch die Zusammenstellung dieser Vorspiele gefällt. Diese Choräle sind in nahezu allen christlichen Gesangbüchern enthalten. I have deliberately composed short and fairly simple preludes for you during Advent, which you can play before the congregational singing. Alternatively, these compositions can also be used as postludes. Some of these are also suitable as preparation for the congregational song before the service. I really hope that you like the compilation of these preludes. These hymns are included in almost all Christian hymn books. The numbers in the videos are examples of the hymn book of the New Apostolic Church.

Nel comporre la musica ho tenuto conto della suddivisione data da Dante alla Cantica, pertanto è presente l’Antipurgatorio, il Purgatorio con le sette cornici ed il Paradiso terrestre. Rispetto alla prima Cantica, il Purgatorio presenta un'atmosfera decisamente meno cupa, più rilassata e serena che si manifesta fin dal primo Canto, all'arrivo di Dante e Virgilio sulla spiaggia nei minuti che precedono l'alba, la mattina della domenica di Pasqua. Se nel comporre la musica dell'Inferno lo stile era spesso aspro e duro, adeguato alla rappresentazione del regno del dolore, quello della seconda Cantica è di tono più leggero ed elegiaco, ovviamente questa leggerezza non è sinonimo di facilità di linguaggio o di esecuzione. Nella terza, quarta, quinta e sesta cornice ho usato gli stessi temi dell’Inferno riferiti alle omologhe pene, ma rielaborandoli con armonie e strutture diverse rendendoli meno scuri e più rasserenanti. Mentre per le restanti parti lo sviluppo tematico è stato concepito completamente con idee nuove. Unica eccezione riguarda l’ultimo brano, il Paradiso terrestre, dove oltre al tema concepito, verso la conclusione del brano e precisamente nelle ultime cinque battute, ho introdotto il tema di un noto corale protestante utilizzato anche dalla chiesa latina dal titolo: “Noi canteremo Gloria a Teâ€. Nella partitura ho indicato anche la scelta dei registri e la dinamica la quale indicazione o suggerimento non risulta vincolante. Pertanto ciò non vieta che l’esecutore attraverso il suo buon gusto possa apportare delle modifiche nella scelta dei registri in considerazione anche dell’organo dove andrà ad eseguire la composizione. La gestazione dell’intera Cantica è durata all’incirca 7 mesi. Le prime battute le ho scritte il 13 marzo del 2022 mentre la fine della composizione ha visto la luce il 22 novembre dello stesso anno. Il Purgatorio chiude il ciclo compositivo organistico dedicato alla Divina Commedia dantesca, iniziato nel 2020 con il Paradiso per poi proseguire nel 2021 con la stesura dell’Inferno. Tre anni di intenso lavoro cercando di poter far “parlare†i brani all’ascoltatore in maniera diretta, curandone il suono che anteponendosi alla tecnica alimentano l’anima. Si tratta di musica autenticamente semplice, ma non banale, in quanto penso che la comunicazione diretta con l’ascoltatore si ottiene solo con la semplicità che è molto più “spinosa†del tecnicamente difficile e veloce. Ma soprattutto, in questa semplicità “spinosa†io ci metto il cuore e la mia mente.

This score is based on the old British Carol "I saw three ships." There are seven variations preceding the fugue. After the theme has been stated, the first two variations extend the theme; the third variation introduces the pedals. The next three variations are in the style of Baroque genres: the fourth variation is a noel written as an homage to Daquin; the fifth variation is a figured chorale, in which the chorale Von Himmel hoch, da komm ich her makes its first appearance; and the sixth is a Handelian rigaudon. The seventh variation is a "carillion" in which Von Himmel hoch reappears. After a dramatic, dissonant chord, the score concludes with a chorale fugue during which Von Himmel hoch appears in the pedal. Composed for and dedicated to David Higgs, in celebration of his twenty-five years of teaching at the Eastman School of Music. Duration: 6:45.
