Organ - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.534661 Composed by Claude Debussy/Robert Orledge. 20th Century,Concert,Halloween. Score. 16 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #5739561. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534661). Over the years 1908–16, Debussy had produced a viable scenario for Usher on his third attempt. But when he came to making a complete draft of the music, he seems to have lost interest during Roderick Usher’s long monologue, even though he was setting his own text. As in No-ja-li he jumped to the next passage that interested him, in this case the exciting final melodrama and the collapse of the Usher house itself. In the process of completing the missing half of the score, I discovered that by reusing Debussy’s material for similar psychological situations across the opera, and by metamorphosing existing ideas (as Debussy does with Mélisande’s theme in his opera Pelléas et Mélisande), the only things I really needed to add were linking material and any passages where fast music was required. So the ‘nightmare scherzo’, and Lady Madeline’s escape from her coffin and her final bloody revenge on her brother are all mine, but most of the rest is existing Debussy in changing contexts (in which the Russian technique of ‘changing backgrounds’, both harmonic and textural, proved extremely useful, as it did to Debussy in his Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune). Eventually, both my completed ballet No-ja-li and the House of Usher were successfully premiered in 2006 and the latter soon began to find its way into the established repertoire in Europe and the US. To further support this, I transcribed some of the highlights of Debussy’s score as A Night in the House of Usher for organ, and subsequently piano—with a focus on Scene 2 and the final, horrific and maca-bre melodrama. This climaxes in the double deaths of Roderick Usher and his Sister Madeline, together with the disintegration of the ill-fated House of Usher into the stagnant lake-all beneath a blood-red moon.In this form it was first performed by Ian Buckle in the Howard Assembly Rooms, Leeds in 2010.

Organ - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.10-365-1E Composed by David M. Cherwien. Lent, Triduum/Three Days, Tenebrae. Instrument part. 2 pages. MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music #10-365-1E. Published by MorningStar Music Publishers - Digital Sheet Music (MQ.10-365-1E). “These are written-out improvisations that were a part of the Good Friday noon liturgy at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Minneapolis. It is a service based on stations of the cross from the Anglican tradition, in our case, with a procession to each of nine stations. At each station there is a mini-liturgy which consists of a reading, prayer, interpretive improvisation on the organ, and the singing of a stanza of a hymn. For the improvisation, I weave in images from the reading with the hymn. For example, at the sixth station, the reading includes the phrase “His yoke is easyâ€, and the hymn is “Go to Dark Gethsemane.†The improvisation alternates between the theme from the chorus “His yoke is easy†from Handel’s Messiah and a very dark and thick chordal setting of the hymn. The improvisations are full of imagery which are evocative and emotionally charged.â€-David CherwienThis unified set represents nine Stations of the Cross, but the pieces can also be used individually as preludes, hymn introductions, or worship interludes. A special reproducible liturgy Good Friday: The Way of The Cross by Susan Palo Cherwien is also included.

Organ - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.547959 Composed by James M. Guthrie. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 20 pages. Jmsgu3 #3089193. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.547959). Theme and seven variations for organ, suitable for performance in church or recital hall. Contents/Durations:Theme: 1:15Canon: 2:06Fugue I: 2:29Fantasia: 2:09Trio: 1:55Fugue II:1:43Interlude/Double Fugue 4:51Meditation: 1:47Herzlich tut mich verlangen is a German hymn with lyrics written in 1599 by Christoph Knoll. It contains 11 stanzas and is known for its plaintive character.  The melody was adapted from a secular song by Hans Leo Hassler called Mein G'müt ist mir verwirret. The tune, Befiehl du deine Wege, first appeared in print in the 1601 Lustgarten Neuer Teutscher Gesäng.The melody is associated with the prayer for a blessed death, beginning Herzlich tut mich verlangen nach einem sel'gen End (I do desire dearly a blessed end). The hymn has been referenced in the works of composers such as J.S. Bach and Brahms, and it is also associated with the organ piece BWV 727. The title is sometimes confused with O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden, as the two melodies are occasionally interchangeable in hymnals from the time.

Organ - Digital Download SKU: A0.828694 Composed by Johann Speth. Arranged by Guido Menestrina. Baroque. Score. 6 pages. Guido Menestrina #115545. Published by Guido Menestrina (A0.828694). Johann Speth (1664-1719) - Toccata Prima oder erstes musikalishes Blumen-Feld Transcribed by Guido Menestrina - youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8huOtZ9bQak From Wikipedia: Johann (Johannes) Speth (9 November 1664 – after 1719) was a German organist and composer. He was born in Speinshart, some 150 km from Nuremberg, but spent most of his life in Augsburg, where he worked as cathedral organist for two years. His only surviving music is a 1693 collection, Ars Magna Consoni et Dissoni, which includes toccatas, Magnificat versets and variations in south German style. Speth was born in Speinshart, Bavaria, to teacher Heinrich Speth and his wife Margareta (née Vichtl). Past scholars established that Speth must have received music lessons from the abbot of the Premonstratensian monastery at Speinshart, one Dominikus Lieblein, however, this has recently been disproven. Nothing is known about his life before 1692, when he applied for the position of organist of Augsburg Cathedral. The application, which contained Speth's compositions, was accepted, and he was appointed organist on 4 November 1692. The music he supplied with the application was published the next year in Augsburg as Ars magna Consoni et Dissoni. In the files of the cathedral administration there is a note from 1705 showing that Speth had also to work in the office of the cathedral chapter. The exact date of Speth's death is unknown, but there is a document that shows that in 1719, he still lived with his wife and a maidservant in Augsburg. The composer's only surviving work is the collection published in 1693 in Augsburg, Ars magna Consoni et Dissoni. The title may be a reference to Athanasius Kircher's famous book, Musurgia universalis, sive ars magna consoni et dissoni (1650). An early description of the work was included by Johann Gottfried Walther in his Musikalisches Lexicon; Walther claimed Speth only compiled the pieces but did not compose. This hypothesis is now generally considered false. Ars Magna contains music intended for organ or clavichord: 10 toccatas (subtitled Musicalische Blumen-Felder), 8 Magnificat settings, and three variation sets. The music has clearly traceable Italian influences, with direct borrowings: one of the variation sets is built on a theme by Bernardo Pasquini, there is also a passage from Bernardo Storace in the Spangioletta variation set, and a verset by Alessandro Poglietti (quinti toni no. 3). The influence of contemporary southern organists is also apparent, particularly that of Georg Muffat and Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer. The toccatas are unusually short for the genre; most consist of three (toccata-fugue-toccata) sections. There are some interesting features such as dynamic indications in Toccata quarta. The Magnificat settings are, like similar pieces by Johann Kaspar Kerll and others, short versets for alternatim practice.

Organ - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6612 Composed by Hermann Schroeder. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 11 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q6612. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6612). 'Concerto da chiesa' is the last organ work by Hermann Schroeder (1904-1984). It was composed a few months before his death. The premiere was performed by Clemens Ganz, then organist at the Cathedral of Cologne, in memory of the esteemed teacher and college colleague. The work marks the end of a tirelessly prolific life with more than one hundred organ works of various characters, genres and possibilities of use in liturgy and concerts. The title 'Concerto da chiesa' reveals that this is a work for concerts, not for being used in services. The three-movement composition is an unmistakable 'Schroeder' work: emphasis of linearity according to high baroque standards, conciseness and sometimes impulsive gestures of the themes and rhythms, layers of parallel chords within a freely tonal modern harmony, not forgetting the plasticity of form and the motor functions which are surprisingly energetic for an eighty-year-old.
