Wesley Suite The world is my parish, a set of four contrasting pieces for organ, is a tribute to John and Charles Wesley, 18th century clergymen and co-founders of the Methodist Church. The title Wondering Soul is a reference to the first line of the Wesleys’ Conversion Hymn, Where shall my wondering soul begin? which was written after John Wesley’s Aldersgate Street experience in which he felt his heart was strangely warmed. Wesley’s Gallop paints a musical picture of John Wesley riding on horseback around the towns and villages of England, preaching the Gospel in churches, halls, fields, cottages and chapels. Chapel Prayer is a reflective piece referring to Wesley’s Chapel in City Road, London, a Methodist Church built under the direction of John Wesley. The word Liberty in the title of Liberty Fanfare refers to John Wesley’s advocacy for the abolition of slavery. He wrote, Liberty is the right of every human creature. The piece contains musical references to two well-known hymns – (i) Amazing Grace, the words of which were written by his fellow abolitionist, friend and mentor, John Newton, as well as (ii) And can it be, the words of which were written by Charles Wesley.

On the occasion of the quincentenary of Reformation Day in 2017, the composer Enjott Schneider thoroughly studied Martin Luther the individual and all his contradictions. The result is a brilliant, demanding organ symphony which is perfect for concerts on the subject of Reformation and Martin Luther. The composer describes the five movements of the symphony as follows: '1st movement: Wir glauben all an einen Gott with its quintuplet-like beginning is very Gregorian in style, outlining the range of Lutheran emotionalism between the Middle Ages and the modern era. The irrationality of faith ultimately has priority over any thought and evidence. At the beginning of the movement, sounds of knocking on wood remind of the nailing of the Ninety-Five Theses to the doors of churches in Wittenberg. The chorale melody sometimes hides with an almost rough medieval saltarello, referring to Luther's robustness and vitality with which he knew to carry away even common people. 2nd movement: In 1530, the electoral prince of Saxony presented to Luther at Coburg Castle the golden signet ring with the Luther rose which became the symbol of his theology of grace. A white heart with black cross is fixed on a five-petalled rose. To him, white is the colour of angels and ghosts, black stands for the pain of crucification: The just shall live by faith, but by faith in the Crucified. But the fact that the rose and the heart are the dominating symbols shows how Catholic Marian piety remained an ingredient of Luther's spirituality throughout his life. In line with the dominant five-petal structure of the rose, this movement was composed, to a large extent, in accordance with the floating, lyrical rhythm in 5/8 time. 3rd movement: The omnipresence of death and dying – from the plague and war to the never-ending dangers of daily life – was an essential part of the world view of that time. Fears ensued that might heighten into the grotesque, e.g. in the pictures of Hieronymus Bosch. The Danse macabre was a popular motif in those years. Luther's chorale Mitten wir im Leben sind / mit dem Tod umfangen from 1524 (Enchiridion from Erfurt) is based on the Gregorian chant Media vita in morte sumus created in France around 750 and, with its idea of transience, inspired a simplistic air. 4th movement: The famous confession delivered at the Diet of Worms in 1521, I stand here and can say no more. God help me. Amen, are not Luther's words but the version later used as text for a pamphlet. However, it represents quite plainly the straightforwardness and inevitability of his mission. Musically, it was made into a perpetuum mobile, i.e. a dogged, ostinato and never-ending musical air. 5th movement: The Mighty Fortress, on the other hand, is one of the great symbols of Martin Luther which, with its shining C major key, embodies the Protestant ideology and willful nature of the Reformation unlike any other song. Heinrich Heine called it the Marseille anthem of the Reformation, Friedrich Engels the Marseillaise of the Peasants' Wars. This disputability is not thought through to the end but rather interrupted: With a jubilant birdcall version of the melody, the finale shows a rather chamber-music-like side of the ideals of freedom of Christians.'.

This new arrangement for organ sees the melody in the right hand with gentle 'cradle rocking' left hand 8th notes above the held pedal notes anchoring the slow moving harmony. The end result is a gentle, reflective and musically satisfying arrangement of a much loved Christmas carol. Use an expressive 8' stop to solo the melody and balance it against an open 8' flute (or 8' and 4' flutes if the 8' is too quiet). Couple the left hand to a quiet 16' Pedal stop. Questa raccolta di dieci brani per organo, concepita tra il 2021 e il 2023, rappresenta un passo significativo nel mio percorso compositivo. Manualiter volume II costituisce la continuazione di un viaggio musicale compositivo iniziato con la mia prima raccolta dall’omonimo titolo. Ogni brano è una riflessione sulla potenza espressiva dell'organo, guidata principalmente dai manuali e con l'uso parsimonioso dei pedali. Attraverso queste miniature organistiche, cerco di comunicare la mia visione della musica, invitando gli interpreti e gli ascoltatori ad immergersi in un'esperienza emotiva unica. La sequenza di brani inizia con la complessa Ciaccona palindroma, seguita dalla Ciaccona sopra DCHLA, il cui tema si basa sulle iniziali del mio nome e cognome, conferendo un carattere personale e distintivo. Cantabile d'affetto ed Elevazione introducono emozioni intense e profonde, mentre la Toccata aggiunge dinamismo e vitalità . Herzlich tut mich verlangen merita una menzione speciale. Questo brano è un corale seguito da due variazioni, con il tema tratto dal famoso corale della tradizione luterana dedicato al tempo di passione. Le variazioni esplorano le sfumature emotive del tema, offrendo un viaggio attraverso interpretazioni ricche e personali. La Toccata breve e il Canto di Pace presentano contrasti significativi, evidenziando la mia volontà di esplorare una vasta gamma di atmosfere ed emozioni. Inoltre Canto di Pace è un omaggio musicale alle vittime dell'attacco del 07 ottobre 2023 in Israele, un tentativo di commemorare coloro che hanno perso la vita in quel tragico evento attraverso la potenza emotiva della musica. Le Partite sopra In dulci jubilo si ispirano al corale natalizio della tradizione luterana In dulci jubilo e sono articolate in quattro variazioni, ognuna unica        nel suo approccio e nell'esplorare le possibilità sonore dell'organo. Infine c’è il brano U vaqa Sënd Vit, che tradotto dall'arbëresh significa Sono andato a San Vito. Questo brano è un omaggio alle mie origini arbëresh e trae ispirazione da un canto popolare della comunità arbëresh di Greci ed è dedicato al Cavaliere della Repubblica dott. Bartolomeo Zoccano che tanto si è prodigato per la diffusione della cultura arbëresh. La composizione adotta la forma della variazione, esplorando le potenzialità di questo canto tradizionale attraverso il linguaggio ricco ed evocativo dell'organo. Manualiter volume II rappresenta il frutto del mio impegno e della mia passione per l'arte dell'organo. Confido che questa raccolta possa essere accolta con la stessa gioia e apprezzamento con cui è stata creata, offrendo un viaggio musicale che va oltre le note, esplorando le profondità dell'anima attraverso le tastiere e i pedali dell'organo, e trovi un luogo speciale nei cuori degli organisti, degli appassionati di musica e di tutti coloro che cercano un'esperienza musicale significativa e avvincente.

Dopo il Paradiso composto nel 2020, il secondo libro del ciclo ispirato alla Divina Commedia di Dante riguarda la prima cantica: l’Inferno.Si tratta di musica genuinamente semplice, ma non banale, in quanto penso che la comunicazione diretta con l’ascoltatore si ottiene solo con la semplicità che è molto più spinosa del tecnicamente difficile e veloce; ma soprattutto, in questa semplicità spinosa io ci metto il mio cuore e la mia mente.Ho lavorato molto cercando di trovare un equilibrio fra il pensare troppo e non pensare affatto. Ovviamente all’inizio ho dovuto leggere e riflettere molto sui versi di Dante e cercare nella mia memoria e nella mia anima le sensazioni che i versi producevano in me. Una volta iniziato il lavoro compositivo ho cercato per quanto pensabile che tutto fosse il più spontaneo possibile. Non è stato facile ma posso dire di avere ottenuto quello che cercavo.Queste composizioni appartengono, come d’altronde tutte le composizioni degli ultimi anni, al mio nuovo modo di concepire la composizione e cioè non solo note organizzate secondo logica, ma suoni distribuiti in uno spazio dove il tempo sembra infinito. Un suono che si antepone alla tecnica per curare l’anima. In questo ciclo le composizioni sono racconti musicali, ma allo stesso tempo una sorta di mappa emozionale con la quale coordinare i nostri pensieri.

Si tratta di una breve composizione dal linguaggio tonale armonico con alcune escursioni verso toni estranei alla tonalità del sistema, ma tutto nel limite e nel rispetto dell'ascoltatore che non viene assolutamente attaccato con un'armonia troppo dissonante. Il Preludio e il Finale sono caratterizzati da piccoli elementi virtuosistici. L'andante ha un percorso molto cantabile, dove l'esecutore può mettere in risalto tutta la sua musicalità . Infine, lo Scherzo ha un carattere giocoso e scivola via senza particolari difficoltà . Nella partitura ho preferito scrivere solo le indicazioni dinamiche e lasciare libero il campo all'esecutore per la scelta dei registri e la scelta su quali manuali eseguire i brani.

He was born in Speinshart, some 150 km from Nuremberg, but spent most of his life in Augsburg, where he worked as cathedral organist for two years. His only surviving music is a 1693 collection, Ars Magna Consoni et Dissoni, which includes toccatas, Magnificat versets and variations in south German style. Speth was born in Speinshart, Bavaria, to teacher Heinrich Speth and his wife Margareta (née Vichtl). Past scholars established that Speth must have received music lessons from the abbot of the Premonstratensian monastery at Speinshart, one Dominikus Lieblein, however, this has recently been disproven. Nothing is known about his life before 1692, when he applied for the position of organist of Augsburg Cathedral. The application, which contained Speth's compositions, was accepted, and he was appointed organist on 4 November 1692. The music he supplied with the application was published the next year in Augsburg as Ars magna Consoni et Dissoni. In the files of the cathedral administration there is a note from 1705 showing that Speth had also to work in the office of the cathedral chapter. The exact date of Speth's death is unknown, but there is a document that shows that in 1719, he still lived with his wife and a maidservant in Augsburg. The composer's only surviving work is the collection published in 1693 in Augsburg, Ars magna Consoni et Dissoni. The title may be a reference to Athanasius Kircher's famous book, Musurgia universalis, sive ars magna consoni et dissoni (1650). An early description of the work was included by Johann Gottfried Walther in his Musikalisches Lexicon; Walther claimed Speth only compiled the pieces but did not compose. This hypothesis is now generally considered false. Ars Magna contains music intended for organ or clavichord: 10 toccatas (subtitled Musicalische Blumen-Felder), 8 Magnificat settings, and three variation sets. The music has clearly traceable Italian influences, with direct borrowings: one of the variation sets is built on a theme by Bernardo Pasquini, there is also a passage from Bernardo Storace in the Spangioletta variation set, and a verset by Alessandro Poglietti (quinti toni no. 3). The influence of contemporary southern organists is also apparent, particularly that of Georg Muffat and Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer. The toccatas are unusually short for the genre; most consist of three (toccata-fugue-toccata) sections. There are some interesting features such as dynamic indications in Toccata quarta. The Magnificat settings are, like similar pieces by Johann Kaspar Kerll and others, short versets for alternatim practice.

Charles Louis Eugène Koechlin (1867-1950) studied with Massenet and Fauré and founded the Société Musicale Indépendante together with Ravel, Schmitt, Caplet and Huré. Poulenc and Sauguet were two of his students. Koechlin's organ composition is published in a two-volume edition for the first time. That this is a very important oeuvre becomes clear from the fact that the premières were performed by important organists: Olivier Messiaen played the Chorale op. 90 and Maurice Duruflé the first Sonatina. An interesting edition for concerts, competitions and liturgy.
