If the performer wishes to play these works on two seperate keyboards, it would be necessary to have the same registration on each keyboard (ie if mixture on the I, mixtures on the II : reeds on I, reeeds on II etc). If the performer is tempted to add an improvised pedal part, the composer would have no problem with that if it were done with taste.

It is a service based on stations of the cross from the Anglican tradition, in our case, with a procession to each of nine stations. At each station there is a mini-liturgy which consists of a reading, prayer, interpretive improvisation on the organ, and the singing of a stanza of a hymn. For the improvisation, I weave in images from the reading with the hymn. For example, at the sixth station, the reading includes the phrase “His yoke is easyâ€, and the hymn is “Go to Dark Gethsemane.†The improvisation alternates between the theme from the chorus “His yoke is easy†from Handel’s Messiah and a very dark and thick chordal setting of the hymn. The improvisations are full of imagery which are evocative and emotionally charged.â€-David CherwienThis unified set represents nine Stations of the Cross, but the pieces can also be used individually as preludes, hymn introductions, or worship interludes. A special reproducible liturgy Good Friday: The Way of The Cross by Susan Palo Cherwien is also included.

An organ arrangement of the famous solo from the opening of the second act of Gilbert and Sullivan's opera "The Mikado".
Although it looks like a simple setting there are one or two finger traps that the organist should be careful not to fall into. Especially when asked to thumb down a melody or to hold notes over on another keyboard. This arrangement is best suited to organs with 3 or more manuals, although, it can be played effectively on two by doctoring of the values of some of the held notes.

The idea behind the passacaglia relates to the origin of the word, it is basically a gentle stroll down the street (pasar la calle in Spanish, which was converted into Passacaglia in Italian) 2. Dorina: a descriptive piece in Dorian mode based on a song about a cat, from the aptly named village of Chattevoix, who stalks, but never catches, a little bird. 3. Playtime: also about a cat, the composer's own cat who is playful and rushes around the house but occasionally stopping to pummel the soft furnishings. 4. Early Evening in Camden Town: a more serious and sad piece - in 3-3-2 time. It is an evocation of the poor folk in Camden and their dreams of what could be, if only….. It was originally a song, which the composer wrote when he was living in London, based on a poem by fellow Londoner Sandra Erös The streets are part of a toy town, waiting to be played with…. 5. The Bishop's Dance: a curious and comical piece in 11 time (3, 3, 3, 2). It comes from the legend of Robin Hood, in which Robin meets the bishop of Hereford, who had hoped to get the better of him, but Robin prevails and forces him to dance. The clumsy attempts of the ungainly Bishop to obey Robin's commands cause great merriment among the merry men To quote our vicar, Rev Barbara, after the recital For me music paints a picture, and, for that, I have got this picture of someone going for a stroll in their village and then they came across a very old cat wandering down the street imaging it could catch birds but never catching them. And then it would lie down for a sleep and dream of the days when it was a kitten.... It was a very reflective programme and turns our mind about What for the Autumn, what do we need to do next.. it really did fit in with the mood of the year, as we turn towards building up the programme for next year... So thank you, it gave us time to reflect in a very beautiful manner.... Written in E, the work consist of two themes that have hymn-like and chorale qualities interspersed with lighthearted passages that depict the strength and weakness of human nature. The first theme resembles a melody of the ancient church; the melody has a mystical quality depicting God's majesty. The transition is light in content as it gives a listener a break from the serious mood of the first theme. The second theme is a chorale and is chordal in texture; it resembles a church hymn sung in many churches. Moreover, the second theme is written in B Flat Major, depicting one's praising God in spirit; the general mood is quiet. Following that section is the transition that gradually builds up excitement before the restatement of the first theme. The second theme is restated in E Major, but its longer note values are placed over the repeated bass and chordal patterns, a style that many composers use in their works, including Igor Stravinsky's L'Histoire Du Soldat. Once again, the lighthearted transitional passage recurs before the chimes start to strike four times. Following the chimes, the chorale is stated in E Major and begins quietly and builds up power as the work nears its ending; the chorale, unlike its first statement depicts the singing of praise with joy. This piece may be performed in concert halls and churches; it could give people fond memories of recitalists who enjoy bringing excitement to the public.

Published by Rebecca Maughan Cook (A0.908187). In 2021 I wrote this entry for an Organ Composition competition. We were required to use the pitches associated with RC MADER. I wrote this set of Miniatures exploring ideas associated with that. Movement 1 is a Fanfare and Hymn setting. Movement 2 is the only time the Pitches are played in entirety and I turned it into a Theme of Love. It's one of my favorite movements from this set. Movement 3 is a Blues with almost all the notes using the given pitches. Movement 4 is such a quirky little piece! It's a March and all the notes are from RC Mader. It was very fun to write. Movement 5 is a Toccata and in order to meet the requirement I placed some chords in inversion for the pedals and picked up the root on the LH. It's busy and beautiful. It's my other favorite movement. I'm uploading a midi recording of this. The first four movements are pretty accessible, but the 5th movement is more challenging. Have fun!

Over the past couple of years I have written a number of film music transcriptions on and for the organ of the Royal Albert Hall in London. While the transcriptions are written with this organ in mind, often calling for specific colours such as the bass drum, carillons or tubular bells, they are adaptable on a number of different instruments and I’ve loved tweaking them in order to play them on organs all across the world. I hope you enjoy playing them as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them! One of the soundtracks that I get asked to perform most regularly is Test Drive by John Powell. This is one of the earlier transcriptions I wrote, and I often use it as a piece to illustrate the difference between different organs. It’s quite useful to have one piece to use as a comparison point, so I post little videos of this wherever I’m playing to demonstrate how radically different the same piece of music can sound depending on the kind of instrument. For me, this piece feels like an instant serotonin boost. There is a great crescendo where you get to take the organ from relatively quiet to earth-shatteringly loud over the course of about 30 seconds, and I always say that playing that part feels a bit like flying a dragon! - Anna Lapwood
