This is one of the most popular songs of the Eighties, thanks to the Simple Minds and the film “The Breakfast Clubâ€.The Scottish rock band Simple Minds recorded this song in 1985 for the film which became a cult hit, as did the theme song. The song was written specifically for the movie by songwriters Keith Forsey and Steve Schiff.Simple Minds were reluctant to perform the song since it was not written by them. But gradually it found its way to the playlist and became one of the highlights of their live shows, when the audience sings “lalalala†for minutes.This arrangement for accordion orchestra starts in a ‘classical bombastic’ style, on a slower tempo, but picks up the tempo when the typical drum riff starts. There is a lot of dynamic movement: from soft verses, only 2 voices playing, to bombastic crescendo in the choruses. To get your audience participating, the typical ‘break’ from the live performances is also included, repeating the “lalalala†melody. This is my original version of a mixture of traditional pieces I heard while traveling in Great Britain in the early 90's , I picked up the bits and pieces from Reels and Jigs I heard , they all sounded like pirate music to me, somehow I came up with this melody combination and decided to give it a name and claim it as a composition. I traveled European festivals and played this song everywhere I go, it got to a point I heard people playing this song on youtube and all sorts of places, this is the power of music, it travels far and wide beyond our expectations.

Published by Julia Gordon (A0.822592). four Scottish airs arranged as a set for accordion THE AULD HOOSEWritten by Carilina Oliphant (Lady Nairne, 1766-1845) this is a nostalgic song about her birthplace in Gask, Perthshire.LOCH LOMONDLoch Lomond, also known as ‘The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond’, is a well-known traditional Scottish song first published in 1841 in 'Vocal Melodies of Scotland'. There are many theories about the meaning of the song, most of which are connected to the Jacobite Uprising of 1745. One interpretation based on the lyrics is that the song is sung by the lover of a captured Jacobite rebel set to be executed in London following a show trial. The heads of the executed rebels were then set upon pikes and exhibited in all of the towns between London and Edinburgh in a procession along the 'high road' (the most important road), while the relatives of the rebels walked back along the 'low road' (the ordinary road travelled by peasants and commoners).COMIN’ THRO’ THE RYEThe lyrics were written in 1782 by Robert Burns (1759–96) who put the words to the melody of the ‘Common' Frae The Town’, a variant of the tune to which 'Auld Lang Syne' is usually sung.THE BLUEBELLS OF SCOTLANDThe Bluebells of Scotland is the usual modern name for a Scottish folk song. Assi Rose Methods #703752. Published by Assi Rose Methods (A0.1099867). A Russian folk song from the 19th century. The original lyrics are in Russian , it is about the story of a meeting between a merchant and a girl. This poem is based on an earlier version of a poem by Nekrasov , printed in 1861 on the Sovremennik magazine. The style and tempo of the song led this folk song to become a world wide popular song. Became a world wide popular composition outside Russia in 1989 as The Tetris theme' in the version of Nintendo game, rearranged by a Japanese composer: Hirokazu Tanaka. Korobeiniki ia a name for peddlers with trays ,merchants who sold fabrics, books and other small items in old Russia, before the revolution. Nekrasov's poem is longer, The story is about a young peddler who seduces a peasant girl named Katya in a rye field. He offers her some of his products as gifts in exchange for sexual favours. She rejects all but she ends up accepting a ring he offered. The next morning, he asked her to marry him. The poem ends sadly with the peddler being robbed and killed by a forest ranger.
