This version is in A minor to suit singers with higher voices [the melody extends from D4-D5 for a comfortable soprano range], and has the exact piano accompaniment as well as full melody and lyrics for a soloist or choir. It works well as a solo or congregational song for any autumn or funeral service, featuring the meaningful lyrics of Henry Francis Lyte reminding us of the swiftness of this life, and the hope we have for the life beyond. Also included at the end of the file is a separate printout of both the piano and vocal parts separately for ease of practice and rehearsal.The original hymn was very beautiful but I thought a minor setting would be more fitting for the solemn lyrics, so I wrote an entirely new melody and harmonic arrangement, which can be found on all streaming platforms as well as Youtube, where lyric videos of this and other songs are readily available for church or personal use. Not just a hymn for September and October, I've found myself going back to this song often, as it captures the rich beauty and yet sadness of the autumn season, and still somehow brings comfort amidst the fast-changing seasons of the earth and of our lives. This short, accessible piece of worship music was written as a liturgical response for use during Christian services during the Advent/Christmas/Epiphany seasons of the church calendar. It returns the work of the people TO the people, placing these musical Words of Assurance into the mouths and hearts of the congregation and/or choir, rather than having the minister alone speaking the words of absolution/assurance after the Prayer of Confession. Set in a simple key for beginning accompanists and including chord charts for guitarists (or pianists who prefer to play by reading the melody notes in the RH and playing by chord symbol with their LH), this song has been set in a perfect vocal range for congregational voices and/or church choirs. Melody and harmony parts have been included in the score so that you can divide into soprano/alto parts if you'd like to, but the piece works equally well if you stick to the melody alone. It was introduced that year in the Eleanor Powell musical film Born to Dance in which it was performed by Virginia Bruce. It became a signature song for Frank Sinatra, and, in 1966, became a top 10 hit for the Four Seasons. This is a contemporary arrangement making extensive use of a root-based chord-blocking method John and I have used in many of our arrangements. We hope you like it!

I'll Remember April is a popular song and jazz standard with music written in 1941 by Gene de Paul, and lyrics by Patricia Johnston and Don Raye. It made its debut in the 1942 Abbott and Costello comedy Ride 'Em Cowboy, being sung by Dick Foran. The lyric uses the seasons of the year metaphorically to illustrate the growth and death of a romance. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. We also added some pretty cool left-hand fills to keep things moving along smoothly.
