Whispering is a popular song, first published in 1920 by Sherman, Clay & Co., of San Francisco. The initial 1920 copyright and first publishing attributes the lyrics to Malvin Schonberger and the music to John Schonberger. Whispering was recorded by Paul Whiteman and his Ambassador Orchestra on August 23, 1920, for the Victor Talking Machine Company at their studios in Camden, New Jersey. Ferde Grofé arranged the composition and played piano on the recording. This version was developed from the original 1920 sheet music and features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in many of  our arrangements. It's a Sin to Tell a Lie is a 1936 popular song written by Billy Mayhew, introduced early that year on records by many dance bands including Dick Robertson on the 78rpm record Champion 40106, and later popularized by Fats Waller on Victor Records.  It was recorded in French by Cajun singer Cléoma Breaux in 1936 or 1937. Four further recordings of the song were made in 1936, namely by Freddy Ellis and His Orchestra (April), Victor Young and His Orchestra (April), Elton Britt (September), Roy Smeck and His Serenaders and Vera Lynn. Gensler and lyrics by Leo Robin, published in 1934. Although it was sung by Bing Crosby in the film Here is My Heart, which was released on December 28, 1934, Cliff Edwards (AKA Ukulele Ike) released a recording on October 19 of that year on the Perfect and Banner labels. Crosby himself released the song on November 9, 1934, with Georgie Stoll and his Orchestra for Decca Records, which reached No. 8 position in the US charts. He recorded the song again in 1954 for his album Bing: A Musical Autobiography. The song was also recorded in 1935 by Robert Cummings for the film Millions in the Air, released on December 12 of that year. It became a standard, recorded by other many artists over the decades.
