A super-jazzy arrangement of this uptempo swing song as sung by Clare Teal, this is one that is fiendishly challenging, but worthy of an attempt by established SSAA a cappella groups who are experienced and confident with the swing genre. The arranger, the late Jen Mills, was an accomplished jazz musician as well as a barbershop singer and LABBS Music Judge. This arrangement has been donated by her partner for publication by LABBS on SMP so that SSAA a cappella groups can experience the joy of this arrangement.This arrangement is NOT suitable for barbershop contest, as the harmony parts are frequently performing non-homorhythmically with neutral syllables, to give a huge hit of big band flavour.The arrangement is predominantly in the barbershop style (melody in the inner voice) but at times the melody gets passed around the other parts too, so everyone gets a turn!With an extended vocal instrumental intro, it would be suitable for a show where a spoken intro overlays the first 30 seconds or so (once the speech is planned, some bars can be repeated as many times as needed to accommodate).For those unfamiliar with the song, look up Clare Teal's performance on YouTube from her album Don't Talk. This is an accompanied SSAA arrangement of the up-beat Act 1 finale Bright New Day from the 1983 musical Blood Brothers.This arrangement has a short intro based on the transition in the original musical and then contains all 6 versus of the original song. The melody alternates between the sopranos and altos and there is some call and response in the later versus. The highest note in the soprano 1 part is top Ab5 and lowest note in alto 2 part is F3.Blood Brothers tells the nature versus nurture story of twin brothers separated at birth in 1960's Liverpool and, with the brothers growing up at opposite ends of the social spectrum. Bright New Day is about one of the brothers and his mother moving from the condemned inner-city slums of Liverpool to a new council house in the nearby town of Skelmersdale during the early 1970's, before he meets his brother by chance again.

However, this work intends to affirm for the listener that while things may change, we always adapt to keep up, and that nothing is ever truly lost to change. This work approaches the matter of change, perhaps ironically, via minimalistic techniques and an uplifting perspective. This song is an entirely secular work in Latin. It touches on some minimalist techniques and could be integrated into secondary school music lessons as a means of discussing minimalism and also as a means to introduce students to singing in Latin while avoiding religious ties. This work has been arranged for SSAA choir (a cappella) from the original SATB version and is approximately 4.5 minutes in duration. This setting of the traditional Scottish song of farewell is designed as an 8-part arrangement that male and female quartets or choruses can sing together to finish a joint performance, as well as two separate 4-part arrangements for the respective groups to use when they're not sharing the stage. It was conceived to address the 'cost-per-wear' problem of special occasion pieces that only get performed occasionally but still need rehearsing to the same standard as the rest of the set.This is the setting for women's voices, in which the melody is taken for the most part by female leads, then handed off to the basses for the 3rd phrase of each verse. The first verse is homophonic, while the second explores a variety of melody+accompaniment textures before restoring the harmonic texture to introduce a tag that blossoms out from unison.The versions for men's voicing and combined voicings are also available for purchase.N.B.
