Published by Daniel Steenson (A0.905647). Beginning solfege singers! As you probably know, not all melodies lie between lower Do and higher Do. Many melodies orbit around their key note, Do. Relatively speaking, these melodies travel between a collection of pitches extending from lower Sol to upper Sol (Ex: Amazing Grace, Happy Birthday, the familiar theme from Brahms Symphony No. 1, 4th movement). Learning to hear and navigate these basic Sol-to-Sol tonal relationships is a vital step for students learning to sight-sing using the solfege system. Here is a warm-up exercise of a Sol-to-Sol melody traversing keys having one to three sharps or flats. There are several typical Re-Ti-Do cadential gestures and a few simple skips. This exercise reviews basic patterns to build fluency in beginners. Sing using solfege hand symbols. After this, sing my Dona Solbis Facem using solfege/hand symbols followed by Dona Nobis Pacem in Latin.

A short, attractive setting of Psalm 121 for three-part (SABar) choir and piano. It is written with parish choirs in mind (with their abundance of soprano and alto voices, but relative lack of male voices!), and consists of three sections. The first part presents the richly harmonised piano accompaniment in the form of a ritornello and the principal, rising melody from the choir, looking to the mountains for an answer to life's challenges and asking from where shall come my help? The second section presents short, pithy phrases sung by each voice separately expressing different ways in which God comes to their aid. The initial melody and accompaniment, repeating the first lines of the psalm, finally return in an altered form (both harmonically and melodically), and the setting ends with a celebration of confidence in the Lord who made heaven and earth.

Designed to be relatively simple for a quick win! Parts labelled Upper, Middle and Lower relate best to SAT, but also accessible to SAA. Note range for each part shown by the clef at the start of the score. Chords provided for simple accompaniment on piano/guitar/ukulele but is also fun with A Cappella with accompanying finger clicks. Originally arranged for a one-off 'come and sing' session for an unknown mix of voices, therefore designed to be simple and accessible for a mix of male and female voices. Lower male (Bass) voices can adapt any part at a lower octave. In Grease the movie this song is featured played by Sha Na Na as the school dance. However this version is based on the Grease The Stage Musical version where it's a song sung by Doody - listen here. I've not found an exact backing track for this version so simple chords have been included on the score (a repeating pattern of C / Am / F / G7 until the last 6 bars when switches to F / Fm / C). If want to use a backing track the film version by Sha Na Na is available on Karaoke Version but would need to adjust the ending slightly moving from end of bar 61 to bar 66 and then do bar 67, bar 69 and bar 71 and 72 to end. An optional middle section is included which keeps the Lower part riff from bar 38 - 42 and layers a four bar section from 'We Go Together' for interest! This piece is a Showstopper! Rock-a-My-Soul is a Choral piece based on the traditional folk/gospel/spiritual. I originally envisioned this piece for a Middle School Choir, but it works well with any group that wants to have fun. It is written in 3 part Treble clef which the conductor may assign as they see fit for their choir and performance. (Part 3 works very well with male voices.) Parts all stay within an octave from Middle C to C above. This lively version uses many styles of jazz to drive this piece, yet there is also a recurring descending third ostinato which is the rocking comfort this piece imparts. The piano part plays an important role in driving this piece and setting the moods. Each of the seven sections shifts the mood and jazz style but maintains a level of energy. After completing the jazz arrangements of the traditional chorus I tried various ways to extend the piece. One day while working on this piece I saw a news clip about another school bullying incident. I immediately made the connection -- at its heart Rock-a-My-Soul is really about overcoming obstacles to find comfort and acceptance. So I wrote some additional lyrics to create an anti-bullying, anti-depression section. I have soloists deliver the main lines to make it personal and invitational then the choir backs them up, call and response style, with Everything's gonna be alright. Lyrics throughout are all carefully worded so that the song may be used for either secular or sacred purposes. The context and location where it is sung will flesh out the implied and intended meaning. If sung in school it means you have friends here who accept you; if sung in your place of worship then it means that your God accepts you.Simple power, beauty and meaning all wrapped in joyous jazz!13 page score, 4:00 minute performancerecording is various excerpts of the accompaniment to show different stylistic sections
