Nach diesem Beginn im Wechsel von Männer- und Frauenstimmen lässt der Komponist den gesamten Chor in den Jubel des Dankes für die Geburt Jesu einstimmen. Dabei gelingt es ihm, den Hörer mit seiner ihm ganz eigenen Tonsprache in andere himmlische Gefilde zu heben. Ein wundervolles, aber zugleich gesanglich anspruchsvolles Stück Musik, das sich gleichermaßen für den kirchenmusikalischen wie für den Konzertgebrauch eignet.

German.Die Motette Gegrüßet seist du, Maria komponierte Bertold Hummel am 20. Mai 1993 und widmete sie dem Gedenken seiner tief gläubigen Schwester Erika. Mein Vater, der im selben Jahr auch das Würzburger Brucknerfest mitbegründete, verstand diese Motette bewusst auch als Gruß an Anton Bruckner, dessen berühmtes 7-stimmiges Ave Maria er anklingen lässt: Im ersten Abschnitt wählten beide Komponisten die Gegenüberstellung von Ober- und Unterstimmen, und auf den Namen Jesus zitiert Bertold Hummel die brucknersche Schlusskadenz vor dem Amen. A Song of Joys is Walt Whitman's vast description of all of life’s—and death’s— joys, ranging from nature, love, and nostalgia, to more specific things like being a farmer, a soldier, mother, and reminiscing of catching lobsters by boiling them until they turn red. All of these ingredients—and many more—contribute to Whitman’s jubilant song. Selected passages from his lengthy poem have been set here for SATB divisi unaccompanied chorus.

Russian.In the days of Roslawez, the use of lyrical texts in Russian choral music was an exception. Traditionally, sacred liturgical texts were preferred in choral singing. Roslawez composed only a few choral works anyway, so this excellent cantabile piece is a real treasure. The poem 'Na poljach' (In the Fields) was written by the Russian poet Pyotr Oreshin. Little solo parts answered by the tutti, charming harmonies and a floating rhythm result in an Impressionist tonal image. The piece is quite easy to sing and will bring pleasure to both performers and listeners. Roslawez studied composition and violin in Moscow. He was among the leading figures of the musical scene in the 1920s. Treated more and more with hostility for political reasons and eventually barred from pursuing his career, he spent the last years of his life in poverty.
