Latin.Szymon Godziemba-Trytek, born in Poland in 1988, already is one of the acclaimed choral composers of our time and has been awarded numerous prizes at national and international composition competitions, as e.g. in 2014 for his 'Miserere mei Deus, miserere mei', a musical setting of Psalm 56 for eight-part mixed a-cappella choir. It is the effective antiphony between female and male voices, four-part homophonic passages including four bars for two solo sopranos, rich dynamic nuances, staggered entries of the voices in imitation, and sound elements to be performed in an individual loop-like manner that make this sacred choral work special. For this work, the young composer was awarded the 3rd prize at the Composition Competition Musica Sacra.

Japanese.Ivan BoÅ¾iÄeviÄ‡, born in 1961, drew his inspiration for the eight-part meditation 'Yuku haru ya' from the famous haiku 'Departing Spring' by Matsuo BashÃ´. The secular a-cappella work for mixed choir is written in Japanese, yet the short text has been transliterated. This makes it easier to avoid the pitfalls of pronunciation as well as master the example words added to the sheet music edition which provide assistance of how to form vowels. Tone repetitions, sustained notes and subtle vocal sound layers make this Zen-like work on the parting of spring a charming, yet manageable piece even for young people. The jury of the International Competition for Choral Composition shared this view and gave the work the distinction 'Particularly suitable for youth choir' in 2013.

Latin.Almost 40 compositions, half of which written for accompanied and unaccompanied choir, can currently be found in the catalogue of works by the young Polish composer Katarzyna Danel (born in 1992). After winning several national composition prizes, she was awarded the 1st prize of the 13th International Composition Competition 'Musica Sacra Nova' 2016 for Misericordias Domini for eight-part mixed a cappella choir. The complex sacred a cappella choral work is based on the eponymous Gregorian chorale (Psalm 89:2). This Latin choral piece is characterized by three main structures: by aleatoric sound clouds in major pentatonic scales which are emphasized by sustained organum-like notes from the Gregorian chorale melody, on the one hand, by Renaissance-style polyphony combined with modern harmony, on the other hand, and finally, by long static chords merging in space and harmony. A wonderfully mystical, spherical composition which, by means of ad libitum passages marked in the musical text, even gives the performer the opportunity to interpret the piece individually.
