Diesem lateinischsprachigen Werk für 8-stimmigen gemischten Chor a cappella (SSAATTBB) liegt die Antiphon zum Magnificat der Weihnachts-Vesper zugrunde. Schronen eröffnet seinen weihnachtlichen Gesang mit der wörtlichen Intonation der althergebrachten gregorianischen Melodie. Nach diesem Beginn im Wechsel von Männer- und Frauenstimmen lässt der Komponist den gesamten Chor in den Jubel des Dankes für die Geburt Jesu einstimmen. Dabei gelingt es ihm, den Hörer mit seiner ihm ganz eigenen Tonsprache in andere himmlische Gefilde zu heben. Ein wundervolles, aber zugleich gesanglich anspruchsvolles Stück Musik, das sich gleichermaßen für den kirchenmusikalischen wie für den Konzertgebrauch eignet.

Latin.Der 1795 geborene Robert Lucas de Pearsall gilt als einer der Wegbereiter des Cäcilianismus, einer kirchenmusikalischen Restaurationsbewegung mit Rückbesinnung auf den aus Renaissance und Barock überlieferten A-cappella-Stil. Auch bei seiner weltlichen Motette Lay a garland für achtstimmigen Chor a cappella (SSAATTBB) lässt sich der Hang des Komponisten zum Kathedralklang nicht leugnen. Umso dankenswerter ist es, dass sich Tobias Bromann, seines Zeichens Kantor am Berliner Dom, dieses exquisiten Chorsatzes angenommen und ihn in seiner Umformung zu einem Kyrie nun auch kirchenmusikalischen Zwecken zugänglich gemacht hat. Dabei fügt sich der Kyrie-Text wie selbstverständlich in die flächige Polyphonie und die schwebenden Harmonien dieser geradezu meditativen Vokalkomposition ein. Ein wunderbares Stück Chorliteratur, das ganz auf renaissancehafte Klanglichkeit ausgerichtet ist.

English.Mysteriös, sinnlich, unergründlich und betörend – das sind Eigenschaften, die gleichermaßen auf die Sonette William Shakespeares wie auch auf deren musikalische Umsetzung durch die 1985 geborene Komponistin Magdalena Zimmermann zutreffen. Die Three Shakespeare Songs der jungen Mainzerin, denen die englischsprachigen Sonette „Not from the stars, „Music to hear und „That time of year des weltberühmten englischen Dichters zugrunde liegen, sind von intensiven Klangflächen und einer ausgeprägten Harmonik getränkt. Dabei entwickelt bei Zimmermann das musikalische Material jedoch nie ein Eigenleben, sondern ist untrennbar mit dem Text(gehalt) verbunden. Dass der Komponistin neben ihrer Begeisterung für Palestrina, Orlando di Lasso und Bach besonders der Ungar György Ligeti wichtiges Vorbild ihrer weltlichen Stücke für gemischten Chor (SSAATTBB) a cappella ist, schlägt sich nicht nur klingend, sondern auch ganz öffentlich in ihrem dritten, mit „Hommage à György Ligeti untertitelten Gesang „Twilight nieder.

Latin.This Ave Maria is an arrangement made by Bertold Hummel in December 1997 of his motet Gegrüßet seist du, Maria [Hail Maria] (C 53714) which he had composed on 20 May 1993 with a dedication in memory of his deeply religioues sister Erika. This Latin version was dedicated to the Cathedral Music Master Siegfried Koesler in Berold Hummel also co-founded the Bruckner Festival in Würzburg together with Koesler and Erwin Horn, a specialist in the opening section of their sorks and Bertold Humme quotes Bruckner's final cadence on the name of Jesus prios to the Amen. The text of the so-called Angelic Salutaion is based on the Bible passages from the Gospel of St Luke (luke 1, 28b, 42) which was extended over the centuries with additions such as Jesus (14th century) and the Invocation to Mary. This text was included in the Breviary of Pope Pius V in 1568 which officially confirmed its status as a prayer.
