Cynthia Boener #862754. Published by Cynthia Boener (A0.1270344). This hymn of faith was written by Louisa M. R. Stead, who was born in England. She wanted to be a missionary to China, but ill-health prevented her. She immigrated to the United States, first living in Ohio, then moving to New York after her marriage. Tragically, during a visit to Long Island Sound, her husband attempted to save a drowning boy, but both the boy and her husband died in the attempt. It is believed that this terrible event was the inspiration for the hymn.

This is my slightly more complex arrangement of Leaves from the Vine from the beloved animated series Avatar: the Last Airbender, as well as the more recent Netflix live-action adaptation by the same name. It is appropriate for intermediate harpists working with an instrument as small as 26 strings, ranging from the C below middle C to the third G above Middle C (though it can obviously also be played on a larger harp, as well). It is written in the key of B-flat Major with no accidentals or lever changes. As such, it could work on an instrument model without levers, so long as the instrument is tuned with Bs and Es flat. My own instrument is a Harpsicle Fullsicle Harp. But I believe it could also work, with one or two very minor modifications, on a Harp-E, some of the Roosebeck Pakistani harp models (though check your range to be sure), Dusty Strings Ravenna 26, or Musicmakers Sonnet 29.The intro, outro, and transitions of the song weave in a medley of other themes from Avatar: The Last Airbender, including excerpts from The Avatar's Love, Four Seasons, and the main title theme. The core of the arrangement, however, centers around on variations of Leaves from the Vine.I also have a simplified, beginner-appropriate arrangement of this piece published seperately. I like to think it gives spooky filmscore / Wednesday Addams vibes, with a neoclassical air, while still remaining very accessible to a less-experienced musician with a small, simple, or budget instrument.It is in the key of A minor (i.e. no sharps or flats) with no lever changes. It should also already fit the range of most common small harp models, including Harpsicle harps (even if your model has no levers!), Roosebeck Pakistani harps (it goes no lower than the F below middle C), Harp-E harps (it goes no higher than your high E), Dusty Strings Ravenna, Musicmakers Sonnet Lap Harp, and others. It can also, obviously, be played on any and all larger harp models.Played at full-speed, some of the turn-arounds in the right-hand, as well as the octave jump in the middle, can prove tricky (as you can see from my own playing in the video!). But played under tempo and more expressively, it could be accessible even to beginner/early-intermediate harpists, so long as you are learning to replace fingers and change directions.Please note that the preview cuts off after the first half-page of score. It creates such an elegant atmosphere, and people will be so impressed hearing it on the harp. The fingering has been carefully chosen to make it feel as comfortable as possible to play while staying as true as possible to the original. You'll find that a conscious effort is required to keep the right hand relaxed as you play with a long series of overlapping brackets.Difficulty Level and Skills Required: Early-intermediate. The right hand plays the melody with a series of long overlapping brackets. The left hand is simpler often playing 2-3 notes per measure with occasional rolled chords. There are a few lever changes throughout.Type of Harp: For big and small harps, 22 strings (C-C) and larger.Range: The lowest note is D, almost one octave below middle C. So I decided to publish the work. It has a dance like structure and a nostalgic character, it can be played faster or slower and it is easy to learn.
