My double-strung harp arrangement in the dorian mode has rolled, echoed chords, highlighting the depth of sound we can get from having two sets of strings. The accompaniment hand traverses the entire range of the harp, often overlapping the melody hand.Key and range: A dorian (one sharp). 21x2 strings. G below middle C through F. For lever or pedal harp. Student pieces from level 1 to level 3.This collection has some very easy pieces. The most difficult, Baron’s Blues, is a jazzy piece that is actually easier on lever harp than on the pedal harp, because all the accidentals use lever pre-sets! This is also true of Walkin’ Wally. Danny Solves the Mystery sounds much more difficult than it is. Hands cross, but do not play at the same time. Lullaby for Smokey gently puts the hands together in easy patterns. Walkin’ Wally is more challenging, but my students enjoyed it so much they practiced! 60’s rock vamp and walking bass makes it fun. Grumpy Dreams of Flying was composed for a student who wanted something mysterious sounding. Dreamy glissandi throughout most of this piece create the effect. Chasing Buddy is fast and cute, just like the Jack Russel Terrier it’s named after. Baron’s Blues is supposed to sound like a whiny puppy who just wants someone to play with him. Not too fast! Forest Friends has a new age feel with the additional benefit of being an etude for interval practice. Buckwheat’s Baby is a study on I, IV and V7 chords.

Published by Arts In Fusion (A0.1452427). This is a delicate and highly atmospheric piece, unusally chromatic on the harp with sutbly shifting harmonies. There are no advanced techniques required but the pedalling is tricky and the phrasing isn't easy to pull off as a lot of the piece is very high in the pedal harp register. However, it is a magical short piece that would contrast well with something rich and romantic, or fast and more contemporary.

Arranged for 26-string harp, although easily playable on larger harps, this version of the famous and greatly requested tune is like a theme and variations. It is well edited with some fingerings, brackets, and dynamic markings, and in the key of E minor. Theme is in 3/4 time and is played through once. Five following variations are in more of a driving 6/8 time. Depending on how fast it's taken, this song can easily fill up a nice segment of set with something very pleasant and not too difficult. The tune is also used as "What Child is This" so could be played at a Christmas gig!
