This collection of twenty-five well-known Christmas tunes is written in a variety of keys, all suitable for a transverse 12-hole ocarina in C. Because ocarinas come in such a wide variety of pitch ranges, it includes both standard notation and a tablature system so that the player can adjust each piece to fit their instrument, regardless of the key. Additionally, each piece also includes an indication of the overall pitch range, and most tunes fall in the 8-9 note range, which can be played on a 4- or 5- hole ocarina. The English Dancing Master, first published by John Playford in 1651, is a significant early source on English country dances that is, social dances for large groups, which generally consist of a repeated sequence of simple steps set to a few simple short phrases of corresponding music. This book contains the tunes for all 105 dances from the first edition of Playford’s work, transposed to suitable keys for the ocarina.This book is suitable for all pendant, transverse or inline ocarinas that can play a full scale. Ocarinas with 4 holes can play roughly half of the arrangements; ocarinas with 6 or 10 holes can play most of them; and ocarinas with 12 holes can play all of the arrangements. The tunes can also be played on almost any other treble-clef instrument, such as recorder, tin whistle or violin.

Originally written for simple transverse or fipple flutes, the music is easy to play and very well suited to the ocarina. This book contains all of Arbeau’s melodies, transcribed into modern notation and, where necessary, transposed into the most suitable keys for ocarina. Adaptations of harmony arrangements by Peter Warlock, John Stafford Smith and Charles Wood are also included.This book is suitable for all transverse, inline and pendant ocarinas with at least six holes. The harmony arrangements are given for transverse ocarinas in C and either F or G, and again for Langley concert pendant ocarinas in D and G.
