It was premiered by members of the Edinburgh Quartet in April of that year. The work is in three movements, each inspired by the work of a different researcher at the Centre for Science at Extreme Conditions in Edinburgh. The first movement is a musical journey through the high-pressure phases of the element sulphur, the second envisages a journey to Saturn's moon Titan, while the third is an expressionistic representation of the structure of the substance CL20, the most explosive substance known to man. Published by Rocco Di Pietro (A0.1004748). A 12 minute String Quartet first performed by Mivos Quartet. The work emerges from a deep inner space and ends in various silences. The idea of Imaginal listening means that the inner world where the music came to me was a gift. I had to listen to it in my head and write it down. It contains totems, and ghosts of bygone music floating by and interacting on the way to a dance. Various musical 'Odalisques' pass by with other more ominous 'Dead Zones'. I thought I would stop writing music when this piece came to me. There is a complete program note included with the score, and all the parts are included with the score.
