Howard (A0.998838). This piano trio is a single 9-minute movement. The title, Trinity, refers to various uses of the number 3 within the piece. This includes 3 instruments, 3 main sections, the rhythmic interplay of the dotted crotchet pulse (of 3 quavers) in the prevailing 12/8 time signature (with hemiolas), and the use of 3 (and its multiples) in the creation of core material. The work creates memorable motifs which are used in various other melodic and harmonic permutations, as well as in cycles of layered texturing. Trinity's overall structure actually refers to a palindromic form, as earlier sections return towards the end, truncated and in reverse order, thus bringing the piece full circle. The religious symbolism implied in the title may be said to have influenced some rather 'mystical' and 'otherworldly' harmonies and textures. The piece is highly accessible and is appropriate for higher standard musicians, including students and the more advanced. An epic choice for a recital or funeral.Fauré Background: In the first place, Gabriel Fauré 1845 –1924) was a famous French composer, musician, and educator. Furthermore, his musical ideas influenced numerous 20th-century composers. Therefore, historians regard him as one of the leading French composers of his time. Famous Works: Among his most famous compositions, by and large, are the Pavane, Elegie (op. 24), Requiem, Sicilienne, Nocturnes for piano and the songs Après un rêve and Clair de lune. Inasmuch as his early works are well-known and relatively easy to perform, Faure’s music seems to have become gradually more difficult during his later life. In other words, his later works are somewhat esoteric and complex. Early Home Life: Fauré was in fact born into a well-cultivated family. His aptitude for music became particularly clear early on - when he was still a boy. Under these circumstances, his parents sent him to a music institution in Paris. Consequently, the training he received there prepared him for a career as a church organist and choirmaster. Middle Life: It is important to realize that Fauré studied music composition with the French musical mastermind Camille Saint-Saëns, who became his lifelong friend. Fauré eventually graduated from college and earned a living as an organist and educator. During this period, he had, on the whole, little time to compose. He consequently became more successful in his middle age, becoming organist of the Église de la Madeleine and director of the Paris Conservatoire. However, he still needed time on balance for composing. Therefore, given these points, he withdrew to the countryside during the summer to focus on composing. Later Life: Fauré was, in the final analysis, recognized in France as the foremost French composer of his time. The French government held a national musical tribute particularly for him in Paris. The French President notably headed the ceremony. Elsewhere, on the contrary, Fauré's music was slow to become accepted, except of course, in England. Legacy: Historians often describe Fauré's music in general as a transition between the end of Romanticism and the beginning of modernism. As an illustration, when Fauré was born, Chopin was still composing. However, by the time of Fauré's death, jazz and atonal music, in particular, had come to fruition. Fauré, by all means, suffered from increasing deafness in his later years. Some musicologists believe this to be indeed the cause of the esoteric nature of Faure’s final works.

French composer Jacques Leguerney (1906-1997) has been recognized for hisoutstanding oeuvre of songs for voice and piano, mostly composed upon poems of theFrench poets of the Pleiade. After his death, the Leguerney Estate decided to allow thepublication of his instrumental chamber music. These works, many of which werewritten in his early years, are valuable contributions to the French chamber musicrepertoire, representing the 20th century from its early years through World War II.This Trio was composed in 1928, but not performed until December 3, 1932. Therespected French musicians Hortense de Sampigny (violinist) and Jacques Serres(cellist) gave its first and, as far as we know, only performance along withLeguerney’s friend and mentor, Thérèse Cahen, at the piano. The concert includingthis work was organized by the Société Musicale Indépendante at the concert hall ofthe Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. A review, in the Journal des débâts, reads:“We do not know this composer. Judging from his composition, whose variegatedstyle reminds us of [Cesar] Franck, of Maurice Ravel and of Spanish dances, he mustbe quite young.â€The same month as this performance, Leguerney’s father, Marcel Leguerney, died. Atthis point, he interrupted his musical activity in order to take over his father’s businessto support his mother and sister. He was not able to resume musical composition until1940, when the outbreak of the war led him to close the business.This edition is based upon two autograph manuscript sources of the full score, as wellas copyist’s parts for the violin and ‘cello. His first completed sketch as well as hisfinal copy are in the Leguerney archives. The parts, made by a copyist, were obviouslyused for a performance, and contain suggested phrasing, as well as bowings (whichwe have not reproduced). We surmise that the violin and ’cello parts were used for thefirst performance. We also think that Thérèse Cahen must have kept her piano score,as the copyist's score of it was not found with the other parts.We have added rehearsal numbers, and corrected a few notational mistakes in themanuscript.We would like to thank Jean Libermann, cellist, and Marion Larigaudrie, violinist,for their advice in the preparation of this edition.

As a composer, his music draws inspiration from nature, mathematics and poetry. In 2020 he was awarded the Michigan Music Education Association’s Young Composers of Michigan award, as well as first prize in the University of Toledo Young Composers competition. Lenhart has also participated in numerous ensembles across Michigan, including the MYAF All-State Choir, Tecumseh Pops Orchestra, University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club and the SMTD University Choir. He thoroughly enjoys collaboration with other composers, performers, poets and visual artists. Originally from Glasgow, Timothy studied at the Royal College of Music, London and the Banff Centre, Canada. He was the Pianist for the Isis Piano Trio and Ballet Creations and is now in demand as an accompanist and chamber musician having performed with artists such as Dame Sarah Connolly and Tasmin Little. He has toured widely internationally and has recorded for BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM as well as TV appearances in Russia and Egypt. Murray’s compositions have been recorded by The Fibbonnaci Sequence and Piers Lane among others with reviews such as ‘Corruscating’ (Independent) and ‘Highly imaginative’ (The Sunday Times).
