Most versions available today utilize a chamber orchestra. This version, expands that to include woodwinds and additional string solo parts, adding a new dimension of color to this charming work. At approximately 9 minutes and 31 seconds, this makes a lovely interlude for your audience. It also pairs well with the Vivaldi Concerto in D Major for Lute/Mandolin, also in this expanded format. (My arrangement available on this web site.) Enhanced guitar part with suggested fingerings including five finger technique for right hand. This can be played with traditional four finger RH technique by leaving out the notes played by the c or little finger of the right hand.Additional instruments are Cello solo, Double Bass solo, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, and Bassoon. This is a revised version from the previous with enhanced fingers for guitar and a variety of improvements to the orchestration.

This Concerto, composed in the 60s for the French Radio, was never performed and it was rumoured that Tailleferre, always trusting with her performers, had given the score to a visiting Guitarist from South America in the hopes that it would be performed there. Tailleferre personally considered this work to be on of her strongest and regretted that it was never performed during her lifetime. Her description of the work motivated several musicologists and guitarists to spend many hours searching for the work in music archives and libraries. The missing score was finally located during the Fall of 2003. A musician visiting the French Radio was intrigued however by a new addition to the catalogue and it was quickly confirmed that this was indeed the missing manuscript that so manmusicologists and guitarists had been looking for all of these years. The work is in four movements and is scored for 2011/1000 tymp/harp/celesta/strings and lasts aproximately 17 minutes. The work is more in the style of a concerto grosso than that of a virtuosic concerto, with the guitars frequently used in a solo group with the harp and celesta, which adds a very interesting orchestral colour. The writing is varied, ranging from a medieval cantilène style in the slow movement to free atonal sections in the second Scherzo movement and in the first movement. The work ends in a movement which sounds influenced by South American Popular music. Inspite of this apparent stylistic disparity, the composition remains extremely coherent and shows a great deal of energy and a kind of poetic strangeness. This item is the full score. One Second to the Future (Guitar Orchestra) Composer: Brent Robitaille  • “One Second to the Future†is a two-movement piece for either a single or optional double guitar orchestra with four separate parts for electric guitar and classical guitar. Two optional steel string guitar and electric bass parts are available but may be substituted if these instruments are unavailable. The total score will be around 500 measures with a running time of approximately 12-15 minutes. The piece is quite approachable for intermediate-level guitarists, with the more challenging sections arranged for the 1st and 2nd parts of the electric and classical guitar. Three overhead mics from the stage will be used to spatialize the sound into a stereo or surround sound system.  • The first movement starts with a fixed audio shortwave recording from the Canadian time signal shortwave station CHU, gently fading in for approximately 20 seconds before the guitar orchestra begins with natural and artificial harmonics.  • The second fixed audio track gently enters around the 1:00-minute mark. This track was recorded using eight amplified and non-amplified guitars in altered tunings with eight separate microphones to integrate into stereo or surround sound. The guitar's open strings were left to vibrate sympathetically as the volume increased and struck on the headstock with various rubber and metal sticks, violin bows or paint brushes to get the strings vibrating. The resulting wave files were then imported into a sampling program and filtered into the overtone series with “C†as the fundamental, emphasising the first 14 partials. This recording will be used intermittently throughout the first movement, acting primarily as a background pad.   • At approximately 3:00 minutes into the first movement, the players are asked to use a glass or metal slide to tap out rhythms based on the international Morse code. Several other standard slide guitar techniques are also integrated into this section. See instructions in the score. The first movement ends with both fixed audio tracks fading away.  • The second movement integrates a more traditional guitar playing and composition approach. Its bulk is at a robust tempo of 160 bpm and uses several rhythmic and timbral techniques, including sul tasto, sul ponticello, harmonics, golpe, string snaps, and the further use of guitar slides.  • Midway through the second movement, a rallentando proceeds to a section indicated by the tempo mark “slow motion.†At this point, a third fixed audio recording of a single vibrating guitar string slowed down by 3000% will fade in. The orchestra is instructed to play with this recording in slow motion or approximately 30 bpm. See score for details. The guitar concerto Phygein Adynaton (Impossible to Escape) calls for a guitarist with two classical guitars (one of which is prepared with paper-clips) and orchestra. The work is in one movement throughout but essentially has two parts divided in half by the guitar Cadenza at the end of the first part. The first part is evocative and stochastic. This invocation is around a tonal center where guitar and orchestra coexist in equal terms. In the second part the orchestra takes a different, more dynamic part. The prepared guitar sounds almost distorted, like a new instrument melodic and percussive at the same time. This part of the concerto is darker in the mood and of a philosophical point of view is trying to give a direction in the battle between life and death.

Pewen is the name in Mapudungun, the language of the Mapuche people, of a tree found in the high mountains of the southern Andes. It is also known as Araucaria. Its fruit has been part of the diet of this people for centuries. This tree, which can reach a height of between 30 and 50 meters, grows very slowly and has a long life, reaching up to 2000 years. In this piece I wanted to pay tribute to the generosity of nature and the Pewen.

Published by Joel Jacklich (A0.723064). His is an arrangement by the composer of his Rondo in A minor (originally written for Guitar and Orchestra) for Cello and Orchestra. There is also a version arranged for Viola and Orchestra. In October, 2014, after my most recent commission, the creative juices were still flowing, and I felt the urge to write a work for guitar and orchestra (which I had always wanted to do, partly inspired by the memories Pepe Romero's performances with my orchestra forty years earlier). Amazingly, within two days I had, except for a few minor corrections, a completed work. The result was the Rondo in A minor for Guitar and Orchestra, which I dedicated to my friend, Sir Pepe Romero, with the greatest respect and admiration. In December of 2014, I realized the work was easily accessible for either viola or cello and created versions of the piece for solo cello and orchestra, and also a version for solo viola and orchestra. The work is rondo-like in form, but does not strictly follow all the rules. The form of the work is a kind of a musical palindrome: A B A C A D A C A B A (including a cadenza in the final rondo statement). The presence of castanets gives the work a bit of a Spanish flair. The piece is scored for pairs of flutes, oboes, clarinets in A, bassoons, horns, and trumpets in C; with timpani, castanets, and strings (8,8,5,5,3). Parts for clarinets and trumpets in B-flat are included in the set for those orchestras lacking clarinets in A or trumpets in C.

An Amble round Mercury refers to the pond and associated statue of Mercury in the centre of Tom Quad at his college, Christ Church Oxford. The ostinato theme is one that he has used on many pieces and was originally written to accompany a setting from the Book of Elijah - and in that day thou shalt say O Lord - in his college days. Pretty How Town, a perky and rhythmically complex piece, is based on the poem - anyone lived in a pretty how town by e.e.cummings. The more laid back Landscape before sunrise is based on a setting of many ways in which the world says Goodnight and is inspired by the view from the composer's 18th floor flat in Aldgate East overlooking a multicultural population. The rhythms of the original song Goodnight follow the phrases in each language: Good Night, buona notte, gute Nacht, kali nykhta, oyasumi nasai, nos da...etc Little Laser Lady, an upbeat end to the suite, is based on a poem by a friend of the composer, whose girlfriend (and wife to be) would always visit him in her Laser (a make of car in Australia) (She is the sun in the afternoon, she is the night's familiar, she comes on a beam of yellow gold light......) The orchestration is: 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, Clarinet, Bassoon and string orchestra including double bass. The pdf file contains the score and separate parts. The sound sample is an electronic preview.
