Published by Gary Friedman (A0.889880). Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra The first and third movements are lively, the second is reflective. There are several solo passages for other players. This was first performed by professional musicians including John Thomas, trumpet soloist, at a composers' workshop at Bard College on August 1, 2003. The orchestra was tiny, with only one player per string part, one each of flute, oboe/English horn, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trombone, and two percussionists and very little rehearsing was possible. The audio clip is of that performance, 3rd movement. Please listen to the other movements at my website, www.garyfriedmanmusic.net. Provided here are the complete orchestra score, a piano reduction of the orchestra, and the solo trumpet parts for both B flat and E flat trumpet. Each has been preferred by some soloists. A complete set of parts is available separately for $20. Also available separately for $20 is an arrangement for brass septet with the 2 trumpet players sharing the solo part. Included with the septet is an arrangement of the 3rd movement for brass dectet. Duration: about 15 minutes Year: 2003.

I met Sharon Roffman in the fall of 2011 when maestro Steven Lipsitt and the Boston Classical Orchestra premiered my Symphony No. 8 … The City of Light at Faneuil Hall in Boston, Massachusetts. Sharon was the featured concerto soloist on the same program. She was an electrifying soloist in concertos by Mozart and Haydn, respectively. She wowed every one with her chops and musicality! A year later I went to hear Sharon and the BCO again, and this time I said to Steven Lipsitt that I want to write a concerto for Sharon. He thought it was great idea, and so did she. The title Serenade Rondo has the same acronym as Sharon Roffman. So in this case, the form precedes the composition. Originally I had planned to compose the concerto in the usual three-movement format. And I thought I was going to make the last movement a rondo, something in the usual ABACA thing. But as I proceeded with the composition, I realized that the work was moving in such a way that the whole thing could be conceived of as a rondo. The St Matthew Passion (German: Matthäus-Passion), BWV 244, is a Passion, a sacred oratorio written by Johann Sebastian Bach in 1727 for solo voices, double choir and double orchestra, with libretto by Picander. It sets chapters 26 and 27 of the Gospel of Matthew (in the Luther Bible) to music, with interspersed chorales and arias. It is widely regarded as one of the masterpieces of classical sacred music. The original Latin title Passio Domini nostri J.C. secundum Evangelistam Matthæum translates to The Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to the Evangelist Matthew Originally for alto voice, violin solo and string orchestra. The arias are in da capo format (ternary form). Erbarme dich, for alto, and Mache dich, mein Herze, rein, for bass, are examples of such arias in Part Two of the oratorio. In these movements the singers are accompanied by one or a few solo instruments and continuo, occasionally completed by other instrument groups of the orchestra.This Aria was originally composed by J.S. Bach for Violin Solo, strings and alto solo was now arranged for Flute (optional recorder), oboe d'Amore and strings. The flute replaces the solo violin very well, just as the oboe d'Amore's sonority fits wonderfully well by replacing the traditional contralto solo.Flavio Regis Cunha is a pianist, conductor and composer from São Paulo - Brasil. He is currently finishing his doctorate at Mackenzie Presbyterian University where he works as conductor of the Mackenzie University Orchestra and resident composer.
