Published by Gary Friedman (A0.889880). Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra The first and third movements are lively, the second is reflective. There are several solo passages for other players. This was first performed by professional musicians including John Thomas, trumpet soloist, at a composers' workshop at Bard College on August 1, 2003. The orchestra was tiny, with only one player per string part, one each of flute, oboe/English horn, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trombone, and two percussionists and very little rehearsing was possible. The audio clip is of that performance, 3rd movement. Please listen to the other movements at my website, www.garyfriedmanmusic.net. Provided here are the complete orchestra score, a piano reduction of the orchestra, and the solo trumpet parts for both B flat and E flat trumpet. Each has been preferred by some soloists. A complete set of parts is available separately for $20. Also available separately for $20 is an arrangement for brass septet with the 2 trumpet players sharing the solo part. Included with the septet is an arrangement of the 3rd movement for brass dectet. Duration: about 15 minutes Year: 2003.

BassI have been thinking about the plan to make an orchestral transcription of Goldberg Variations for a long time, as one of the examples of collective music-making, where most of the work would be typical of the style of a piano concerto, and would also include chamber ensembles both with a pianist and solo. Some variations are played: Piano + Orchestra (1,2,3,4,6,8,10,11,12,14,16,18,20,21,24,25,26,27.28,29) Orchestra only (19, 30), Brass only (4), Wood winds only (9), Brass + Wood winds only (22), Piano + Soloists from the Orchestra (7, 15, 17) Piano only (13) Prelude-Aria (Theme) begins with the pianist and after 8 measures the orchestra gradually turns on. The same Postlude-Aria theme at the end of the composition has an inversion orchestration, when everyone starts playing together (Piano + Orchestra) and then the orchestra gradually stops playing and only one pianist remains.Audio (mp3) incudes excerpts of Variations ## 1,2,4,5,6,7,11,14,19,20,21,22,28,29,30.

Despite this, he deliberately set out to study Wagner's music. Tristan und Isolde was the opera Henze found most accessible and it was therefore the Wesendonck-Lieder, dating from 1858 with their clear affinity to the harmony of Tristan, which became Henze’s focal point of interest. In his arrangements he was aiming 'to evoke the pre-Tristan state. For this reason, I have selected a small ensemble consisting of seven wind instruments, two horns, harp and small string orchestra to retain the preliminary study character of these Lieder. Score and parts of a premiere realization of some of Beethoven's sketches for the first movement of another Symphony in C major before the First, dubbed 'No. 0' or Unv. 2 by some: 1. 'Overture' (Andante con moto - Allegro con brio), 2. Tempo di menuetto. Useful for people interested in Beethoven's sketches and for students of the Classical style. In 1794-1796, Beethoven made extensive concept sketches mostly for the first movement of this abortive symphony. The material is abundant and sometimes contradictory, as usual with his preliminary work, and he recycled later from this one only the main theme of the Finale of the completed Symphony No. 1. For this speculative realization, suggested by Mr. Armando Orlandi at the Centro Ricerche Musicali and dedicated to them, only the more promising sketches were utilized, and the slow introduction was assembled from the ones in cut time, while those in triple time make up now a Minuet. Virtually every bar of music here includes the sketches, also in the elaboration and coda of the 'overture', only with a few transpositions needed for assembling the sonata form and for the repeats in the Minuet. Obviously, Beethoven would have done it much differently, had he decided to continue working on this symphony, and the question remains regarding the utility of recycling material abandoned by some classical composer. However, this gives one an approximate idea of one of the many possibilities implied by the preliminary sketches for his Symphony 'No. 0'. Total duration 15 minutes. Duration: 8 minutes, 15 Parts, parts averaging 2 pp. Description: (According to the composer) Three Haiku and a Poem are just that, a four-song cycle for baritone voice and chamber orchestra. Based on 3 texts written by me and a fourth, a poem by the famous ancient Greek poet Sappho. The former were written when I was in grade school studying the well-known 5-7-5 syllable structure of Japanese haiku. I note with bemusement that I had cheated somewhat by providing leading titles which in themselves are at times longer than one of the tersely limited lines. The poem by Sappho was also one I had discovered in my own handwriting such that at first I did not remember who wrote such a splendid verse. All four were discovered, so to speak, by me from my more distant youth and set to music when I myself had just turned 21. There are four movements, Ina Cabin by the Sea - Indoors - An Evening Request - Alone. Total 8 minutes.

The melody is in Dorian mode and is very typical of the Middle English period.This straightforward but useful arrangement is for a String Group or Orchestra with an optional part for Piano or Harp. Violin 1 is split into two parts - Melody and a Descant line. Harmony parts for Violins 2 and 3. Viola Part is doubled on Violin 4.
