Smith (A0.938726). Druantia is an eternal Mother Goddess and Queen of the Druids in ancient Celtic folklore. She was known as the protector of forests, and a patron of knowledge, creativity, passion, sex, and fertility of both plants and animals. She is often portrayed as a beautiful, red-headed, slender woman with elven features, draped in forest-green robes. As the protector of forests, she was also guardian of forest spirits and sprites. These spirits are said to inhabit trees, a belief that spans across many cultures, like the Kodoma in Japanese folklore. Druantia’s Dance, a pizzicato string orchestra piece, depicts a joyous ritual of Druantia and her forest spirits; they scurry through the forest, dancing together, while creating new life and blessing the plants and animals around them, aiding in their growth.

Duration ca. 5:10Gabriel Fauré's Pavane Op. 50 is a short work originally composed for piano in 1887 but is better known in Fauré's version for orchestra and chorus. The piece is a pavane, a slow processional court dance that took hold in Spain in the 16th and 17th centuries and which the aristocracy used as a showcase for fancy ball gowns and ceremonial feasts. The piece's stately pace, which lends the melody its halting grace, has much to do with its frequently cited calming effect. The titles of the movements come from either an specific dream, or other topics about dreaming that I discovered in the process of writing the work. I. Cherry trees in the morningNature has always inspired me. Every year during spring my family has the tradition to visit the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to experience the cherry blossoms. I usually do not remember many of my dreams but in this particular dream I was in Japan under an esplanade of cherry trees. I remember how amazed I feel and is for sure one of my most memorable dreams. II. DreamcatcherWhile I was writing the initial ideas of for the work I came across a Journal that explored how the use of a particular chord helped reduce nightmares in patients suffering from nightmare disorders. In the study, patients were exposed to the chord C69 (A C Major with the added 6th and 9th) during therapeutic sessions. This chord is used at the beginning of the movement as it moves to explore different sonorities. In this movement you might be able to hear a representation of the “heartbeat†played by the bass drum and timpani, then a more “stressful†section will come to represent a nightmare followed again by another repetition of the C69 chord. If you feel relaxed during the performance, it is on purpose! III. A Dance in the desertDreams, in my case, are usually a mix of different non-related things. For the final movement, I decided to use that idea. I started this dance with a “oriental†style and them throughout the middle of the movement I moved it to a waltz that was influenced by my grandfather. He used to have a small orchestra and he used to play waltzes during events and private parties.I hope the music takes you through a journey of musical emotions.Juan Guerra González

While it was composed in a traditional ABA structure, there are many elements in this composition which are not at all traditional. As the piece awakens, the oboes and flutes seem innocent and coquettish. As orchestral participation grows, one has the sense of an entire field of rich colors growing before our very ears. Enter the piano. Simple, elegant and romantic. Softly supported by the strings, the piano issues an invitation to the winds. They respond cautiously, obviously curious to see what this charming piano has in mind. The strings express an opinion. It's not what the piano wants and he presses harder. The strings and winds question each other, back and forth with triplets. Who is this piano? The mid-section is an announcement by the strings that a love relationship may be in the cards. The piano replies with passion and tenderness.With eighth notes, the strings become entangled with the piano, counseling it, guiding it. The winds using triplets put their two cents on the table. They're not so sure. The piano makes a passionate plea; the strings are supportive. The piano and the winds have a conversation. They finally dance together. In the end,.Appassionato is a musical expression of the struggle over whether or not love is worth the risk Sometimes in conflict sometimes in harmony, the piano and winds do unite. Passion has won.

The name ouverture refers only in part to the opening movement in the style of the French overture, in which a majestic opening section in relatively slow dotted-note rhythm in duple meter is followed by a fast fugal section, then rounded off with a short recapitulation of the opening music. More broadly, the term was used in Baroque Germany for a suite of dance-pieces in French Baroque style preceded by such an ouverture. This genre was extremely popular in Germany during Bach's day, and he showed far less interest in it than was usual: Robin Stowell writes that Telemann's 135 surviving examples [represent] only a fraction of those he is known to have written;[1] Christoph Graupner left 85; and Johann Friedrich Fasch left almost 100. Bach did write several other ouverture (suites) for solo instruments, notably the Cello Suite no. 5, BWV 1011, which also exists in the autograph Lute Suite in G minor, BWV 995, the Keyboard Partita no. 4 in D, BWV 828, and the Overture in the French style, BWV 831 for keyboard. The two keyboard works are among the few Bach published, and he prepared the lute suite for a Monsieur Schouster, presumably for a fee, so all three may attest to the form's popularity.Scholars believe that Bach did not conceive of the four orchestral suites as a set (in the way he conceived of the Brandenburg Concertos), since the sources are various, as detailed below.The Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis catalogue includes a fifth suite, BWV 1070 in G minor. Interesting detail: its the publisher who adds 'Popular' (Beliebte) to the title, which was a brilliant move crowned with success: not only would this piece become an enduring crowd-pleaser, it also launched the Polka as the new dance sensation.
