Paul McCartney sings the chorus, plays the bass, and claps his hands. Ringo Starr plays drums and claps his hands. Because he is recovering from a car accident, John Lennon did not participate in this song. There was also the participation of orchestral instruments: four violas, four cellos, one bass, two picolos, two flutes, two alto flutes and two clarinets. According to George, it was composed one sunny morning in Eric Clapton's mansion. Like in If I Needed Someone, another composition by him, a guitar solo sounds throughout the song. Dr. Schwager has been my music professor while I was an undergraduate. However, at the time he was on the faculty of Hartt College of Music in Hartford Connecticut. As a result, the premiere took place in Hartford in St.Peter's Catholic Church. Knowing this ahead of time, I found the hymn tune: ST PETER in my Presbyterian hymnal. (The words often used with this tune are In Christ There Is No East or West). In keeping with this hymn tune, I composed each movement using a section of the melody as a motive. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and likewise reverberation for maximum effect. Seems like Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was rather the first to indicate them such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He therefore developed and used very specific notation to indicate instrumentation. Gabrieli experimented with assembling massive instrumental forces into isolated groups separated by space. In this way, he consequently contributed heavily to the Baroque Concertato style. Polychoral Works Gabrieli probably used the layout of the San Marco church for his experiments. This is because he worked there as a musician and composer. Furthermore, the church had two choir lofts facing each other. He certainly used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Certainly, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, then consequently followed by a response from the group on the other side. Sometimes there was probably a third group positioned near the main altar as well. Spatial Music Above all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation in rather than two groups. The instruments, because they could be appropriately situated, could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements that seem bizarre on paper, can in contrast sound perfectly in balance. First Works Finally, Gabrieli published his first motets along with his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Seems like Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material but developing it through sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, here the instruments are certainly an essential part of the presentation. Also, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung. Homophony Hence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – which calls Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.

Clausula (noun, Latin) – an ornamented cadence especially in early Renaissance music The work is flexible and lyric-gradually expanding and contracting its basic musical material within a passionate discourse. The Greek myth of Actaeon has numerous variants. In the most well known version (as told by the poet Kallimachos/Καλλίμαχος), the goddess Artemis was bathing in the forest when the hunter Actaeon mistakenly came across her. Transfixed by her supernal beauty, he gaped, whereupon the goddess transformed him into a stag, lest he speak to anyone of what he had seen. The now-cervine Actaeon was then torn to pieces by his hunting dogs. This piece does not attempt to portray the myth programmatically. Rather, it explores musically the transformed Actaeon’s internal emotional state following his encounter with the goddess.

Nevertheless, I never wanted to compose an imitation of real Armenian music; for that I should live in Armenia a few years, learn the language, soak in a couple of millennia of culture and impregnate myself with the current problems. And yet it would be doubtful that the result would sound authentic. Neither I was interested in composing some sounding touristic postcards. These melodies reflect, yes, how a thankful being sees the Armenian from outside. And this is what grants them legitimacy.About the titles:The general title of the piece, Paregamutiún, is translatable as friendship. Sometimes it is transliterated Baregamutyun (as a certain station of the subway in Yerevan). The single titles of each piece refers to a lake, a mountain, a mythical patriarch and a tree of Armenia:1) Sevanavank: Monastery of the Black Lake, founded in 874. The name Sevan means literally Black Van, referring to a lake called Van. It is said that long ago the Armenians came from areas next to the lake Van towards the lake Sevan, they noticed that its waters were dark, almost black, but they reminded them of the lake Van, and therefore called it black Van: Sevan.2) Hayk is the patriarch of the foundational myth of the Armenian nation, and the original name of the country (Hayastán: land of the Armenians); some sources affirm that he was great great grandson or great-great-great grandson of Noah.3) Dziranà Dzar: apricot tree, the Armenian national fruit. Dzar is tree and dzirán is apricot, the obvious phonetic similitude seems to underline a strong semantic proximity between both concepts. Programme Notes: This composition was written to be considered for pairing alongside Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony #3, the Eroica, but can stand on its own virtues as an intense and slow meditation on heroism. The music is like a boiling pot on the stove that’s just began to overflow its bubbles. The first part of the title, kommos, is a Classical Greek term from Attic dramaturgy, literally meaning striking but specifically referring to beating oneself up during lamentation--ripping at the hair, gouging out the eyes--like Oedipus--slapping the forehead, and other acts amid moments of extreme emotional turmoil. For example, from Aeschylus's play Agamemnon, a character bewails: Apollo, Apollo! God of the Ways, my destroyer! For you have destroyed me-and utterly [...]What is this fresh woe [...]what monstrous, monstrous horror, beyond love's enduring, beyond all remedy? And help stands far away! We can easily imagine physical accompaniment to the script; rather than bottling up the pain, the hero lets it all explosively come out.  The second part of the title, When the world moved on, is an epigraph taken from American author Stephen King’s The Dark Tower epic. The primary setting of the novel, a world similar in many ways to our own, is experiencing a dark age where the glorious past is all but a distant memory and all good things are referred to wistfully as occurring, When the world moved on. Yet, the main protagonist, Roland, the last gunslinger, emphasizes that it is not just a figure of speech, but the literal distances between destinations have increased, the positions of the stars have changed, as well as the occurrence of other unnatural phenomena. The world has become a gulf of isolation from all corners. Taken together, this piece is a lamentation for when the world moved on. Truly completed on Yom Kippur during the Covid-19 Pandemic, being unable to fast or go to synagogue, this is my atonement.About the Composer: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

Information about the song title:Beyond the Sea is a 1945 contemporary pop romantic love song by Jack Lawrence, with music taken from the song La Mer by Charles Trenet. Trenet had composed La Mer (which means the Sea) with French lyrics. It had some differences to the English-language version that Lawrence later wrote. Trenet's French version was a homage and ode to the changing moods of the sea, while Lawrence, by just adding one word Beyond to the title, gave him the start whereby he made the song into a love song.It has been recorded by many artists, but Bobby Darin's version released in late 1959 is the best known by many, reaching No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 15 on the US R&B Chart, and No. 8 in the UK Singles Chart in early 1960.
