None of the parts go beyond 4th position (with the exception of harmonics), so the challenge is to be found in the musical interpretation & ensemble playing aspects, and can additionally be used as a gentle introduction to reading in the tenor clef... All my arrangements for 'cello quartet, quintet and sextet are conceived specifically with the range and technical capabilities of the 'cello in mind - no simple transpositions or re-orchestrations of string quartet scores. They are therefore both easily playable and enjoyable by any intermediate to advanced 'cello ensemble. Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana A very accessible arrangement of this popular classic for 'cello ensembles of intermediate/mixed ability. Only the 1st ‘cello part has sections in tenor clef and goes to C above middle C. All other parts in are in bass clef and do not go above 4th position. If played by a 'cello choir the divisi markings in the 5th 'cello part should be observed, otherwise the lower part is advised. If played by a 'cello orchestra (rather than 5 individual 'cellists) parts 1 and 2 should be solo in bars 11 - 18 only (or could be 2 celli per part for less confident performers). I Will Look After You – Aron Wright This haunting little melody was made famous in the UK by virtue of its use in a TV ad for a well-known bank featuring a black horse and its foal. My arrangement of for four ‘cellos has been written with 3 soloists and a ‘continuo’ in mind. None of the parts go beyond 4th position (with the exception of harmonics), so the challenge is to be found in the musical interpretation & ensemble playing aspects. Some close harmonies make good intonation essential. There is also rhythmic interest in the syncopated vocal line. It is written solely in bass clef and lasts approximately two and a half minutes.
