This arrangement is for 4 ‘cellos and would make a nice encore or be perfect for inclusion in a varied program. All parts are in bass clef and only the second ‘cello part goes above 4th position (Bb), making it ideal for a student ensemble of mixed ability. Keep Calm & Play Cello! The inspiration for my Missa Pro Defunctis (2018) was Fauré's Requiem in which he ignored the fire and brimstone text of the Dies irae and Tuba mirum in the Sequence of the Requiem Mass. And consequently he created a work that is peaceful, tranquil and uplifting. I'd like to think of death in that way.So, I proceeded by taking the exact text that Fauré used in his work, and instead of a large chorus and full orchestra I decided to do a chamber version. It is scored for SATB (single voices), flute, clarinet, string quartet, double bass and harp.The movements, as in the Fauré, are:1. Introit and Requiem2. Offertory3. Santus 4. Pie Jesu5. Agnus Dei6. Libera me7. In paradisumThe entire work has a duration of ca. 27 minutes.Missa Pro Defunctis (2018) is dedicated to the residents in the Protestant Cemetery in Rome.

There is a lot of time to compose when you are stuck at home during the Pandemic of 2020. This is the fifth work I completed under lockdown.: Trio 803 was completed on April 7, 2020 Kindertodtotenlieder was completed on May 13, 2020 Préludes … Hommage à C.D. was completed on June 5, 2020 Chansons de Maeterlinck was completed on June 20, 2020 I have always been a huge fan of the Mendelssohn Octet for double string quartet. In my search of octets on YouTube I noticed that there were a number of octets that used a double bass instead of a second cello. I thought that configuration would suit what I had in mind for my octet. Octet for Strings is in five movements. I. AdagioII. Allegro III. Adagio IV. Allegro TRIO V. Andantino Total duration, ca. 22 minutes. Enjoy!!!

I Will Look After You – Aron Wright This haunting little melody was made famous in the UK by virtue of its use in a TV ad for a well-known bank featuring a black horse and its foal. My arrangement of for four ‘cellos has been written with 3 soloists and a ‘continuo’ in mind. None of the parts go beyond 4th position (with the exception of harmonics), so the challenge is to be found in the musical interpretation & ensemble playing aspects. Some close harmonies make good intonation essential. There is also rhythmic interest in the syncopated vocal line. It is written solely in bass clef and lasts approximately two and a half minutes. Samantha Bramley #3875421. Published by Samantha Bramley (A0.800200). A tribute to the hugely popular soundtrack of Game of Thrones, arranged for 5 'cellos. Lasting approximately 3 minutes, this would make a great encore for a 'cello ensemble concert and would complement my arrangement of the Opening Title (also availble on SheetMusicPlus). Both pieces are a great showcase for the versatility and current popularity of the 'cello. Written entirely in bass clef and never above 4th position (with the exception of A harmonics) this is a very accessible arrangement for most ensembles of beginner/intermediate ability. If played by a 'cello orchestra (rather than 5 individual 'cellists) parts 1 and 2 should be solo in bars 11 - 18 only (or could be 2 celli per part for less confident performers). All other parts are tutti throughout. Dynamics should be varied accordingly. Note from the arranger: All my arrangements for 'cello quartet, quintet and sextet are conceived specifically with the range and technical capabilities of the 'cello in mind - no simple transpositions or re-orchestrations of string quartet scores. They are therefore both easily playable and enjoyable by any intermediate to advanced 'cello ensemble. Most parts do not go beyond 4th position, making them equally suitable for student, mixed ability groups or ‘cello choirs. A complete score and set of individual parts is included.
