I have arranged Prokofiev’s Dance of the Knights for piano quintet, a piece renowned for its dramatic intensity and imposing character. This arrangement has been meticulously crafted to retain the powerful and majestic qualities of the original orchestral version, while adapting it for the more intimate setting of a piano quintet. The arrangement is versatile, suitable for use in ballet performances where the dynamic and rhythmic elements of the piece can enhance the dramatic action on stage. At the same time, the arrangement is also well-suited for concert performances, allowing audiences to experience the grandeur of the music in a chamber music setting. Through this arrangement, I aimed to preserve the essence of Prokofiev’s masterful composition while providing performers with a new and accessible way to bring this iconic work to life.

Published by Han-Ki Kim (A0.733817). * Song of Gyeongbok Palace - Twinkle Twinkle Little Star * Op.295A The year 2022 marks the 130th anniversary of Korea's diplomatic relations with Austria, and this song was composed to commemorate the 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Two themes are cited in this chamber music. The first is the Korean traditional folk song “Gyeongbokgung Taryeong†and the second is “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star†composed by the world-famous Austrian composer Mozart. In 1892, when Korea (the country's name was Chosun) and Austria established diplomatic relations in 1892, Gyeongbokgung was the place where Gojong, the last king of the Joseon Dynasty, held office. Unfortunately, diplomatic relations were established in Tokyo, Japan. Therefore, “Gyeongbokgung Palace†can be said to be a historical building that retains the pain of the times in relation to the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. The two quoted themes alternate with each other, and the traditional Korean rhythm “Jajinmori†is placed between them. In particular, in the second half, two themes were composed at the same time, which symbolically expresses the close relationship between the two countries. The performance of U-Tube is a little different from the original score.

This Fantasia (or Fantasy) for piano, vocal soloists, chorus, and orchestra, Op. 80, was composed in 1808 by a 38 year old Beethoven.The Fantasia was hastily written to serve as the grand finale for a (personal) benefit concert on the 22nd December 1808 which included premiers of his 5th and 6th symphonies, the 4th Piano concerto and the Mass in C. Beethoven took the opportunity to use the forces available to make this comparatively short piece for piano, orchestra, and a choral finale where he, the soloist, could showoff just how good he was.Sadly, this work is seldom performed because who wants to hire a choir for just 2 minutes of music and an orchestra for not that much longer. This quintet version addresses this by allowing a much smaller ensemble to enjoy performing this utterly delightful work. The piano part is basically what Beethoven wrote, however it has been suitably modified in places to allow the piano to fit into the overall ensemble.
