Johann Wilhelm Gabrielski (1791 - 1846) was a flutist in Berlin, and although he and his works are not as well-known, it is said that Friedrich Kuhlau - who most flutists today know of - dedicated his only flute quartet to Gabrielski.
This flute trio was originally written with most of the melody and interesting passages played by the 1st flute. I enjoy playing pieces that are a bit more equal among all players, so I re-arranged this piece in that manner.
This is a great recital piece.

I am a composer and adult flute student. I composed a one movement flute trio, Flute Fare, and showed it to my flute teacher, Susan Levitin, who then showed it and other works to three of her younger students. The students selected my piece for performance without knowing that I was working with the same teacher. They have performed the work several times. I believe it is tuneful and not overly challenging although some practice will be required. Incidentally, the musicians were able to play from the full score. Julian Harvey

Vivaldi wrote his violin concerto Summer RV 315 Op 8 around 1723. It contains some of the most famous and frequently recorded and recognizable themes in music. I have closely followed the pattern of the original concerto which has come to be known as Summer from The Four Seasons. Included are solo flute, 2nd flute and alto flute parts plus a 3rd part if alto flute is not available. Chords are also included for jazz players to improvise and us the solo part as a guide.

The earliest manuscript dates from the nineteenth century and the piece only emerged from obscurity through radio play in the 1970s. Now one of the best-loved and ubiquitous classical pieces, the Canon’s repeating chord sequence has inspired countless pop tunes from the Streets of London, to I Should be so Lucky and Don’t Look Back in Anger. This version is arranged and transposed to a suitable key as a Trio for three Flutes. An optional part 4 is included which can be played on any bass instrument to add texture and harmonic context. The original note values have been doubled to make the rhythms easier to read. The linked youtube performance is the Clarinet version of this arrangement. Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, and being a Canon, all but the bass part play the melody. Duet versions of this piece can also be found by browsing from the link below. The overall performance time is around four and a half minutes. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with stamina, concentration and rhythmic consistency. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon was originally scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo playing an ostinato pattern,, repeating the same harmonic progression throughout the entire composition.Regis Bookshar has now arranged this composition for a Flute Trio which play the melody in canon and a Keyboard instrument, either a Piano or Organ, which plays the ostinato pattern. Canon in D - Johann Pachelbel - Flute Trio, Keyboatd - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download.Johann Pachelbel's celebrated Canon in D is perhaps the most famous canon ever written. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon in D was originally scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo playing an ostinato pattern, repeating the same harmonic progression throughout the entire somposition.Regis Bookshar has now arranged this composition for a Flute Trio which play the melody in canon and a Keyboard instrument, either a Piano or Organ, which plays the ostinato pattern. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students and is perfect for concerts, recitals and church services, especially for weddings, but could be performed for any occasion. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (22 pages).This version of Pachelbel's Canon in D is written in the key of D Major, as was the original version. However, another version, transposed to the key of Bb Major, to make it a little easier for some younger performers, especially brass and woodwind players, is also available, if you would prefer. Also available are other versions of this well-known Canon in D for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles.
