Here we have an abridged version of ‘Spring’ from Vivaldi’s famous ‘The Four Seasons’ suite, arranged for a clarinet quartet. A little challenging perhaps but instantly recognisable and enjoyable to play. Suitable for intermediate players and above - no fiendishly difficult bits - the main points to watch out for are the tempo changes at bar 28 (where the first clarinet slows the tempo before a slight accelerando) and bars 32 (rall.) and 34 (a new tempo, slightly down on the opening one, is established). These tempo markings are not obligatory and the piece can ebb and flow rubato fashion at these points, if you wish. Also, note the rallentando at the end.In a few places where long sixteenth-note passages occur, breath marks may be needed. These have been deliberately omitted to enable the players to work out what’s best for them.Enjoy yourselves!

Bach's Partita No. 4 in D major, BWV 828, is an essential work for several reasons: It is part of Bach's Clavier-Übung I, a collection of keyboard suites that he published in the last 25 years of his life as a musical testament to convey his vision of music-making and composing. Unlike his earlier English and French suites, the Partitas in this collection are more severe, focusing on polyphonic structures that actively involve both the listener and performer. The Partita consists of seven movements, all in the key of D major, structured around Renaissance dance forms such as the allemande, courante, sarabande, minuet, and gigue. This instrumentation captures both the original medium for these dance sets as well as the Baroque style of Bach. Ravel wrote 3 Chansons while waiting to be enlisted in the military during World War 1, and the only piece that he wrote for acapella choir. This is the 3rd movement of that piece, and it makes a great instrumental quartet piece. The song is about adults telling their children not to go into the woods of Ormond because there are monsters there. What makes the song fun is the list names of all of the monsters that reside in these woods. I've added the lyrics on my title page just as a reference, since as an instrumental quartet, this won't be conveyed to your audience. That said, if you didn't know what his piece is about, it's quite charming! This arrangement is for 4 Bb clarinets. There is an optional Eb alto part that can be played in place of the 4th Bb part.
