Johann Sebastian Bach’s five-voice triple fugue in E♠major from BWV 552 became known as the “St. Anne†fugue due to its similarity to the hymn of the same name by William Croft. It is presented here for five clarinets. If an alto clarinet or basset horn is not available, a fourth B-flat clarinet part has also been included. The bass clarinet uses the extended low C range in the end section, but an 8va ossia is provided if an instrument with this range is not available. The arrangement can also be played as a larger clarinet ensemble or choir with the additional contra-alto and contrabass clarinet parts. Wiegenlied (Lullaby,Berceuse, Cradle Song), Op. 49, No. 4, is a song for voice and piano by Johannes Brahms which was first published in 1868.in a set of 5 pieces for voice and piano. It is one of the composer's most famous pieces.Sometimes known as Guten Abend, gut' Nacht, (Good evening, good night) which are the first words of the song.Brahms based the music of his Wiegenlied partially on S'Is Anderscht, a duet by Alexander Baumann published in the 1840s. It was dedicated to Brahms's friend, Bertha Faber, on the occasion of the birth of her second son.Brahms had been in love with her in her youth and constructed the melody of the Wiegenlied to suggest, as a hidden counter-melody, a song she used to sing to him.Simrock published Brahms's Op. 49 in November 1868. The popular Christmas song, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, was originally written by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane for the 1944 Christmas musical film, Meet Me in St. Louis. In the film, Judy Garland’s character sings the song, comforting her younger sister. However, the original lyrics had a depressing tone: Have yourself a merry little Christmas, It may be your last, Next year we may all be living in the past. At Garland’s request, the lyrics were changed to reflect a more positive character. Since the Judy Garland version of the song, other singers such as Frank Sinatra have tweaked the lyrics even more to make the song more uplifting.
