It demonstrates Leopold Mozart’s predilection for laconic musical genre-painting: he dedicates a minuet to “Hanswurst†(literally “John-Sausageâ€) familiar from traditional Salzburg street theatre; “Signor Pantaloneâ€, the commedia dell’arte’s wealthy, aged and vainglorious womanizer gets his own conceited Andante. Harlequin, the mercurial and mischievous trickster in the chequered costume, gets the last word, mocking and bamboozling his upper-class audience. THis is Mvt 2.

Harlequin, the mercurial and mischievous trickster in the chequered costume, gets the last word, mocking and bamboozling his upper-class audience. This is the 1st movement: Sinfonia or ouverture which  was originally written for a string orchestra of 2 viola, 2 celli and bass/bassoon.I have arranged it for clarinet quintet (4 Bbs and one bass) and transposed it from G to Eb so clarinets are playing in F.

ID: S0.11897532: Arioso - The Cantata 156 (BWV 156) was written for the third Sunday after Epiphany in 1729, and was first performed on January 23 of that year. By Jerry Gray, Carl Sigma.Pennsylvania 6-5000 (also written Pennsylvania Six-Five Thousand) is a 1940 swing jazz and pop standard recorded by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra as a Bluebird 78 rpm single. The music was by Jerry Gray and the lyrics by Carl Sigman.Many big band musicians played in Hotel Pennsylvania's Cafe Rouge in New York City, including the Glenn Miller Orchestra.The hotel's telephone number, Pennsylvania 6-5000, inspired the Glenn Miller 1940 Top 5 Billboard hit of the same name, which had a 12-week chart run.[2] The instrumental was recorded on April 28, 1940 at the RCA Victor Studios at 155 East 24th Street in New York City. The 78 single was released in June, 1940 as RCA Victor Bluebird 78 B-10754-A backed with Rug Cutter's Swing. The song was also an advertisement for attendance at the band's live performances, as a call could be put through to Hotel Pennsylvania’s venue the Cafe Rouge for a reservation.Johnny Best played the improvised trumpet solo on the recording. The Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 565, is one of Johann Sebastian Bach's most famous organ compositions. It follows a typical North German structure with three main sections - a free opening (toccata), a fugal section (fugue), and a short free closing section. The exact date of composition is uncertain, but it's believed to have been written before 1708. There is no surviving autograph manuscript. The oldest known source is an undated copy by Johannes Ringk, a student of one of Bach's pupils. It was first published in 1833 through the efforts of composer Felix Mendelssohn during the early Bach Revival period. It gained widespread recognition after being featured in Disney's 1940 film Fantasia, which Leopold Stokowski adapted for orchestra. The piece has become strongly associated with horror films and Gothic imagery in Western culture. The Toccata begins with dramatic flourishes and arpeggios, showcasing the organist's virtuosity. In this instance, the source was Martin Luther's hymn of the same name which became a main Easter hymn in German Lutheranism.Regis Bookshar has transcribed and arranged three selections based on this hymn tune, two from Bach's Cantata No.  4, BMV  4, and also his Chorale Prelude, BMV 625. They may be played individually or as a trilogy and each movement is more complex that the previous one. The first selection in this trilogy is the Chorale, Christ lag in Todesbanden, the final chorus from his Cantata No.  4, a straightforward four-part chorale setting of the hymn (Regis has also added a fifth part). This is followed by Bach's Chorale Prelude, BMV 625, a piece from his Orgelbuchlein (Little Organ Book), a collection of 46 Preludes for organ, written almost exclusively during the 1708-1717 period, while Bach was court organist at Weimar. For the final selection, Regis has placed the polyphonic and imitative chorus, Es war ein wunderlicher Krieg, da Tod und Leben rungen (It was a strange battle, that death and life waged), which Bach had placed in the middle of his Cantata No.  4.This arrangement is for a Clarinet Quintet, consisting of 5 Bb Clarinets. Bill Malcolm #6141295. Published by Bill Malcolm (A0.786268). This arrangement is very difficult and the page turns are near impossible. It uses a non-standard quintet one each Eb clarinet, Bb clarinet A clarinet, alto clarinet and bass clarinet. There is a 2nd Bb clarinet part alternate to the A clarinet but it misses many of the beautiful low concert Db's, so the A part is preferred. It is a joy to hear and worth the hard work to perform it artistically.
