Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.752575 By Neil Diamond. By Bob Russell and Bobby Scott. Arranged by Hannah Hawken. Contemporary. 22 pages. Hannah Hawken #6409941. Published by Hannah Hawken (A0.752575). This ballad by Bobby Scott and Bob Russell was a hit for The Hollies in 1969 and has been recorded by many other artists including Neil Diamond, The Osmonds and Rufus Wainwright (for the film Zoolander). It is a really well-known melody which many audiences would appreciate. Here it is arranged for saxophone quartet (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone) with an optional vocal part. The tune is mainly on the tenor part (so this can be substituted for the vocal part) but each other part has some of the melody too. It also includes an alto solo which can be played as written or improvised using the chord symbols. .

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.949161 Composed by Ian D. Crew. Christmas,Concert,Contemporary,Standards. 16 pages. Grumpy Mule Music #6101917. Published by Grumpy Mule Music (A0.949161). Here's the second in a series of super-short pieces for SATBar Sax Quartet. Embedded in the style/texture of each is a well-known Christmas melody, sometimes thoroughly hidden, sometimes fairly obvious. The pieces last about a minute each and, if you've got all the tubes to hand, you can send your own performance of a postcard to all your friends this year. In this piece, the spirit of J. S. Bach hovers over the music. (Hope he's not too annoyed.)

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.891935 Composed by Johann Georg Albrechtsberger. Arranged by Stephen Davies. Classical,Standards. 63 pages. Stephen Davies #5310999. Published by Stephen Davies (A0.891935). The Austrian composer Johann Georg Albrechtsberger was an organist, teacher and theorist, indeed one of his many influential pupils was a certain Ludwig Van Beethoven. His own musical works were and still are a tour-de-force and widely recorded. In fact his Alto Trombone Concerto is very much a part of the repertoire for that instrument. He also wrote, what might be today regarded as quite strange, no less than 7 Concerti for the Jaws Harp and String Orchestra. (Youtube) In this Saxophone version the music is scored, unusually, for 3 equal Soprano Saxes AND Tenor Sax. The 5 pieces here are representitive of his masterly fugal output, tweaked here and there to suit this rare Saxophone Quartet format! Five Mighty Meaty Morsels, suitable for Vegans and Vegetarians alike!! (Although every care has been taken, some E#'s may remain!)

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.532734 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Paul Wehage. Baroque. 21 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #1917. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.532734). The Aria with 30 variations which form the work which is known as the « Goldberg » variations is one of the greatest works of Bach. It is his only work which uses the form of variations and through three series of ten variations each, it explores a myriad of musical genres and styles. The initial Aria, which seems to be rather trite and banal at the beginning of the work, is magnified through these transformations and the da capo at the end brings us back to the beginning, which has been changed by the musical journey itself. As a sort of musical « initiation », it has become a work which sparks the imagination and which creates an atmosphere all it’s own. The story of how the work came to be written has to come to us through Bach’s first biographer, Johann Nikolaus Forkel in 1805, seventy-five years after the death of Bach. It would seem that a certain Count Keyserlingk, the Russian Ambassador to the Court of Dresden, had difficulty sleeping and asked Bach to compose a work which his protégé, a harpsichord virtuoso by the name of Goldberg, could play in a salon near his bedroom to help him sleep in the evening. For this commission, Bach was to receive the largest fee of his life, a hundred louis d’or in a golden goblet. It would seem that this story is perhaps more of a legend than anything else, as no goblet was found in Bach’s estate at the end of his life and no documented proof of this story has been found. Goldberg was indeed a student of C. P. E Bach, Bach’s son and the son might have asked his father to write these works for his brilliant student. No manuscript for the Goldberg Variations exists, only a first edition corrected in the hand of Bach which contains certain tempo indications and other markings. The first edition also carried the following title: « Clavierübung, consisting of an Aria with diverse variations for the Harpsichord with two manuals composed for music lovers to refresh their spirits by J. S. Bach ». In this version for Saxophone Quartet, it is important to remember that Bach was writing for the harpsichord and not for the Piano-forte. Bach did indeed know of the Piano-forte and played one of the first instruments produced, but it would seem that he did not care much for this new instrument. To find something akin to the precise, clearly defined attacks of the harpsichord, precise articulation and clarity of sound must be the first priority. In general, even in the slowest movements, the attacks must take precedent over all other elements of performance. If the need for clarity of line and precision of attack is respected, the inherent musicality contained in the work should be evident, even in this new form.. As Bach himself transcribed many of his own works and those of others, I would like to hope that he would find this question to be interesting and the results to be surprising...

Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Standards. 107 pages. Jmsgu3 #1013671. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1433420). BACH: Partita No. 4 BWV 828 Contents: Overture, Allemande, Courante, Aria, Sarabande, Menuet, Gigue. Bach's Partita No. 4 in D major, BWV 828, is an essential work for several reasons: It is part of Bach's Clavier-Übung I, a collection of keyboard suites that he published in the last 25 years of his life as a musical testament to convey his vision of music-making and composing. Unlike his earlier English and French suites, the partitas in this collection are more severe, focusing on polyphonic structures that actively involve both the listener and performer. The partita consists of seven movements, all in the key of D major, structured around Renaissance dance forms such as the allemande, courante, sarabande, minuet, and gigue. This instrumentation captures both the original medium for these dance sets as well as the Baroque style of Bach. Bach was well aware of his abilities as a composer, and he deliberately published these works to ensure they would not be lost to future generations. The partitas represent Bach's mature approach to keyboard composition, where he was less interested in dance rhythms and more focused on creating complex polyphonic structures. Overall, Partita No. 4 is considered an essential work in Bach's keyboard oeuvre, as it showcases his mastery of form and counterpoint while also reflecting his desire to create music that would endure.

Arranged standrard sax quartet: SATB Transposed into Bb from original A to aid players. Melody and guitar break given to sop tenor and alto take middle section. Bari covers bass guitar.Great fun with mixed time sigs!!Good Morning Good Morning is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.It was written by John Lennon and credited to Lennon–McCartney. Inspiration for the song came to Lennon from a television commercial for Kellogg's Corn Flakes. Another reference to contemporary television was the lyric It's time for tea and Meet the Wife, referring to the BBC sitcom. Lennon himself was critical of the track. It's a throwaway, a piece of garbage, I always thought, he once said. I always had the TV on very low in the background when I was writing, and it came over, and then I wrote the song The song is played at 117 beats per minute, has an unusual rhythmic feel, and uses different time signatures. Beats are played in groups of 2, 3 and 4, and time signature changes frequently. Parts with 5/4 and 4/4 bars alternate, with 3/4 transitions. Most of the song uses simple time, where the beats are divided into two, but the middle eight sections use compound time, where the beats are divided into triplets.YouTube Link https://youtu.be/xTpiETCrAqw is my brass quartet version.

Arranged by Jim Fieldhouse. 20th Century,Chamber,Classical,Jazz,Multicultural,World. 21 pages. Nefarious Music Publications #1065797. Published by Nefarious Music Publications (A0.1489035). Dave Brubeckʼs iconic composition which featured on his 1959 album ʻTime Outʼ, has been carefully scored for standard saxophone quartet by Jim Fieldhouse.Brubeck, often regarded as one of the leading artists in the cool jazz movement, was inspired by the sound and rhythmic feel he heard when he encountered a group of Turkish street musicians. Blue Rondo was based upon the Turkish Aksak rhythm, and is written in 9/8 grouped as 2+2+2+3 for three bars followed by a 3+3+3 bar.In a conversation between Brubeck and these Turkish musicians they reportedly said that the aksak was to them what the blues was to western musicians, and so the title for the piece “Blue Rondo a la Turk” came about. This arrangement requires attention to detail, rhythmic precision and good dynamic control in order to drive the music forward with a light and lively feel and build to the big moments in the score where the ensemble can really let rip!

Arranged by James Pybus. 20th Century,Patriotic,Standards. 18 pages. James Pybus #6695079. Published by James Pybus (A0.764753). Frederick Joseph Ricketts (21 February 1881 – 15 May 1945) was an English composer of marches for band. Under the pen name Kenneth J. Alford, he composed marches which are considered to be great examples of the art. His march On the Quarter Deck was written in 1917 during the 1st World War to commemorate the Battle of Jutland. The quarter deck is the raised deck behind the main mast of a sailing ship; traditionally it was where the captain commanded his vessel and where the ship’s colours were kept. This arrangement for SATB or AATB Saxophone Quartet will enhance a variety of concert and performance settings. Duration is 2:32. Contact me at james.pybus56@gmail.com. .
