You want your concerts to be well visited and to help you with that, I make arrangements (and compositions) for trombonequartet with guitar, piano, bass and drums. They also contain an optional bass-trombone/ tuba part and sometimes a solo part. This one contains a trombone solo part. This arrangement of A Whole New World, is scored for Solo Trombone in front of the ensemble mentioned above. There are two solo parts in the set. One high and and one low. You can combine those two if that makes you more comfortable. Durata: 3,5 minutes (approx.) The song itself is about Alladin taking Jasmine on a ride on the magic carpet. The lyrics are all about discovering what you didn’t know about and be grateful for all the adventures life gives. This makes it a perfect piece to play in a variety of places, like weddings, celebrations of any kind, graduations, not to mention many types of concerts. With a few adjustments you can also use parts of this arrangement and make it work. It’s most powerful when you use the whole band, but it still makes a lot of sense if you have to skip some of the parts. There are so many times I have had to skip a piece in a concert, using a not as good substitute, because we didn’t have the people to play it. A slow, soulful blues for those times when we need to play a slow, soulful blues. The title comes from a day when I was reflecting upon lost ancient civilizations and wondering about their music. What did the music sound like? Did the musicians back then have steady gigs? This is a fairly conventional 12-bar blues, however it has some interesting quirks. The 4th bar has a sustained C with V7 (#9) chords moving chromatically upwards against it. In terms of conventional harmony, the C is a wrong note on several of the chords (like the Db7). The chord changes have reharmonization in several places. The ending, with a shift to major 7th chords, is unusual for a blues. This is a romantic samba. I wrote this tune to express my wife's qualities of warmth and surprise...and how she is a wonderful dancer. I think of the tune as being fairly straight-forward; however, it has some surprises. The AB form is unusual in how the A part is 15 measures and the B part is 22. While the music is mostly in 4/4, there are two places where a measure or two of 3/4 is used to shake things up. Harmonically, there is a mix of standard II-V chord changes, parallel harmony, and symmetrical harmony. The melody has a floating quality. The sustained notes give the rhythm section space for fills. It serves as a good basis for a variety of arrangements, contra facts, and improvisations.The audio sample is a jazz quintet: A slow swing jazz accompaniment from iReal Pro, combined with my duet tunes from Finale PrintMusic. In this sample, a flute takes the accompaniment (treble clef), with a baritone sax in the bass clef. The main tune (bass clef) is accompanied, making this an unusual duet lead sheet. For example, a flute may accompany a baritone singer. An option is to interchange the voice roles (e.g., main tune octave higher, accompaniment octave lower), or use one of the tunes of the duet by itself. I wrote this piece in honor of immigrants, in recognition of the courage it takes to move to a new country and learn a new language. New immigrants often go through difficulties and setbacks, including persecution from citizens of their adopted country. This, despite the recent immigrant ancestry of most of the persecutors, notably in the USA. In the subtitle of Immigrant Blues, I recognize my own immigrant ancestors, and also Anders Lundegård, who, like my paternal grandparents, moved to the USA from Sweden. Anders helped me with this piece, with his reviews and comments. **Here are the lyrics for Immigrant Blues: 1. Moving to the U. S., far away. Life here is so bad, I will not stay. Talked to Mom and Dad, they said OK. I want to make a place for them some day. 2. First time in the States was no picnic. Half the time no work, and I got sick. Some folks try to help, while others scoff. I have friends, but others put me off. 3. Looking bright and able, that’s my plan. Taking ESOL classes when I can. Learning English is no easy chore, And I want my folks here, that’s for sure. And I want my folks here, that’s for sure. Oh, yeah!

Uxmal At Midnight is a slow tango. The tune is fairly simple however it has a beauty that invokes images and feelings of this magical place. This is one of my minimalist pieces. There are times when I use extended forms and times when I need only a few measures to convey a particular mood. The essential features of this piece are its simplicity, harmonic color, and use of space. The one exception to its simplicity is the shifting time. Like other pieces of mine that use shifting time, this music has a fluid movement -- with time expanding and contracting in ways that feel natural to me. For contrast, I decided to have the solo section entirely in 4/4. My minimalist pieces, and others that have a great amount of freedom, are heavily dependent upon the performers to bring the music to life.
