It is a disease that affects all peoples without bounds in all walks of my life. It is a piece of hope that represents a turning of the tides the affliction as well as the dense fog that it produces within. I played it live with drummer for prelude for piano solo or ensemble. This is an original tune with a great funky vibe. The piece has a distinct and unique introduction, and development. You got to give it up for the key of this piece of Ab minor, you have been warned. LOL. 2 page arrangement is challenging but not overly so, and well worth the effort to learn. Fun tune to learn and improve over. I used it in church for a prelude and it was well received with a jamming drummer. Fun Stuff.

By Mike Strand, ASCAP This is a swing tune lead sheet with lyrics, chord symbols and guitar fret boards, for a jazz ensemble with two voices, or for one voice and a singing instrument, or for two singing instruments. It serves as a good foundation for a variety of arrangements, contra facts, and improvisations. The audio sample is a medium swing accompaniment from iReal Pro, combined with my tunes from Finale PrintMusic. You hear two melodies with the accompaniment -- a treble electric guitar, and a simulated baritone voice (without the words). A rock version of St. Matthew Blue is also for sale on this web site. St. Matthew Blue portrays an unhappy person coping with the COVID 19 pandemic, which started early in the year 2020. It’s not a blues tune, however, so the word blue is in the title without the s. St. Matthew Blue contains unusual harmonies inspired by J. S. Bach’s opening chorus to the St. Matthew Passion. This tune doesn't match the profundity and appeal of Bach's chorus, but the two 16-bar themes of St. Matthew Blue contain some of my favorite harmonic ideas from Bach’s work. This gives a depth to this piece that sets it apart from other swing tunes. Here are the lyrics to St. Matthew Blue:An evil little bug has got me down.I want to drink a mug of beer in town. But now I get supplies brought to my door From many tries to find an online store. Self-pity brings to mind St. Matthew’s tale, How Jesus saved our kind from fiery hell. That my soul is safe may well be true, But I still chafe at fighting this damn flu.

It serves as a good basis for a variety of arrangements, contra facts, and improvisations.The audio sample is a jazz quintet: A slow swing jazz accompaniment from iReal Pro, combined with my duet tunes from Finale PrintMusic. In this sample, a flute takes the accompaniment (treble clef), with a baritone sax in the bass clef. The main tune (bass clef) is accompanied, making this an unusual duet lead sheet. For example, a flute may accompany a baritone singer. An option is to interchange the voice roles (e.g., main tune octave higher, accompaniment octave lower), or use one of the tunes of the duet by itself. I wrote this piece in honor of immigrants, in recognition of the courage it takes to move to a new country and learn a new language. New immigrants often go through difficulties and setbacks, including persecution from citizens of their adopted country. This, despite the recent immigrant ancestry of most of the persecutors, notably in the USA. In the subtitle of Immigrant Blues, I recognize my own immigrant ancestors, and also Anders Lundegård, who, like my paternal grandparents, moved to the USA from Sweden. Anders helped me with this piece, with his reviews and comments. **Here are the lyrics for Immigrant Blues: 1. Moving to the U. S., far away. Life here is so bad, I will not stay. Talked to Mom and Dad, they said OK. I want to make a place for them some day. 2. First time in the States was no picnic. Half the time no work, and I got sick. Some folks try to help, while others scoff. I have friends, but others put me off. 3. Looking bright and able, that’s my plan. Taking ESOL classes when I can. Learning English is no easy chore, And I want my folks here, that’s for sure. And I want my folks here, that’s for sure. Oh, yeah!

This is a lead sheet for an original bossa nova/jazz piece. The title, Não Sei Porque (I Don't Know Why...), is a nod to the Brazilian origins of the bossa nova style. The translation of said title is in parentheses. The piece is intended to be performed at approximately 135 bpm. It's a lively piece that can be performed in and arranged for any context in which you might perform any jazz standard. A variety of ensembles from high school to professional levels could perform it to a very warm reception. The audio file is my attempt at a standard big band arrangement. It was done in Finale 25 with instruments from Garritan's JABB 3 software. The interlude section is intended to be played after every solo in a manner similar to the way A Night in Tunisia is sometimes played. This isn't required of course. It's jazz! Improvise! Eduardo Arolas is a famous tango composer who is well documented on that web site. Also on that web site, you can listen to Osvaldo Requenaâ??s piano performance of Volcán from Arolasâ??s original piano sheets (written circa 1917). Years ago, I developed and wrote a tango quintet arrangement of Volcán by listening carefully to Requenaâ??s recorded piano performance on the web site. My quintet arrangement, in turn, was my source for writing this bossa nova arrangement. So, now Volcán has finally been published, but as a bossa nova! Wherever Señor Arolas may be, I hope he understands. In this bossa nova arrangement, I believe I've preserved the spirit of Arolas's original tango.Without knowing exactly what was in Eduardo Arolas's mind when he wrote the original tango, this is my personal idea of the message behind the music:Introduction: Let me tell you a story about a volcano that happened long ago.Part A (bars 5-20): It's a sad tale about human helplessness and suffering in the face of natural catastrophe.Part B (bars 21-36): The people living in a town below a volcanic peak were going about business, leisure, and play, experiencing the ordinary cares and pleasures of life.Part C (bars 41-52): One day, without warning, the volcano erupted, with smoke, falling hot rocks and ash, and hot lava flows. Some folks got away, but others were killed, buried or injured, and all that was left of the town was devastation, suffering, and, eventually, calm.Part A' (bars 53-end): A sad tale, but may we learn from it, and may the souls of the poor victims rest in peace.If you listen to and read the lyrics of Arolas's great tango, La Cachila, or listen to another superb tango of his, El Marne, you will witness further his talent and skill in composing dramatic music. We're lucky, because Montgomery wound up on European TV shows during many of his stops, resulting in lots of video clips.    Wes was filmed May 7 in England with pianist Stan Tracey, bassist Rick Laird, and drummer Jackie Dougan. This session is quite different from the April 4 session in Belgium with pianist Harold Mabern, bassist Arthur Harper and drummer Jimmy Lovelaceand the April 2, 1965 session in Holland with pianist Pim Jacobs, bassist Ruud Jacobs and drummer Han Bennink in that it includes commentary from club owner Ronnie Scott, who explains the career and music of Wes Montgomery as if he were giving a lecture. The music, of course, features more of Montgomery's great stuff with personable glimpses at each of the artists. The quartet swings and seems to enjoy every minute of the show. The guitarist's West Coast Blues, in particular, makes this video stand out as an unforgettable piece of jazz history.   An interesting thing about this video, the horn section did not know that the chord changes for solos were different than the changes for the theme. One can imagine that Wes was not traveling with a Real Book so the group did not learn this from paper. This arrangement corrects that issue and includes a head chart for the rhythm section and a version for guitar with tablature. It also includes trumpet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, and baritone saxophone.

The Tuba should try to emulate Boris Karloff's voice, more Halloween-ish, spooky but classy! This does not have a Drum part, as I wanted to demonstrate that the arrangement coulc stand alone, however if adding drums, it can easilybe picked up by the Drummer listemimg to the original.
