Though the fusion is not limited to Hindustani or Western Classical, as Carnatic Raagas for filler and BluesJazz/ Rock-n-Roll Bassline is also heard in the piece.This Book is the sheet music for same. This arrangement of Louiguy's Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White was created with four horn parts (Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Trombone), a rhythm trio, and arranged Congas, Bongos, Claves, and Cowbells (Agogo Bells). It's form gives the melody and a solo going twice through. A unique element to this arrangement are the added Clave and Agogo Bell parts exclusive to the solo section. The idea behind this is for the two horn players without a solo to take up either part and play some auxiliary percussion throughout the solo section until they can get back on their horn. This intermediate arrangement promises interactiveness, great instrumentation, and a fantastic sounding combo!

A slow, soulful blues for those times when we need to play a slow, soulful blues. The title comes from a day when I was reflecting upon lost ancient civilizations and wondering about their music. What did the music sound like? Did the musicians back then have steady gigs? This is a fairly conventional 12-bar blues, however it has some interesting quirks. The 4th bar has a sustained C with V7 (#9) chords moving chromatically upwards against it. In terms of conventional harmony, the C is a wrong note on several of the chords (like the Db7). The chord changes have reharmonization in several places. The ending, with a shift to major 7th chords, is unusual for a blues. A setting of a hymn tune with great funky bebop riff which is simple and groovin at times and also harmonically daring and rich. Big Chords and great nonfunctional Gospel sounding voice leading produces a striking example of the beauty qualities of this astounding gem. Piece includes distinct and unique ideas and vamps and a setting of the hymn tune before concluding. 2 page arrangement is challenging but not overly so, and well worth the effort to learn. Deeply funky tune draws from inspiration in Hezekiah Walker, Chick Corea, Ricky Dillard, Charlie Parker, and Theolonious Monk. It was used for a piano and drum prelude in church, for a moment in time.

Shifting time funk (for 5 wind instruments and rhythm section)! The title expresses my disdain for contending with monster SUVs when driving on Connecticut Avenue in Washington, DC. As I envision this music, it is funky and adventurous. The piece is a minimalist composition -- the melody is only 16 bars. However, it has expanded improvisation concepts for the soloist and the ensemble. The ensemble's collective improvisation is to sound like music coming out of car windows in traffic. The sounds change quickly. Different kinds of music come, go, and overlap. Radios (or electronics) may be used for additional layers of sound. The soloists use four chord progression patterns. Each soloist determines which patterns to play and their sequence. The patterns can be played in any order. Ideally, the patterns are determined within a performance instead of before. The soloist communicates the patterns, and when to shift to a new pattern, to the ensemble by hand signals. Music styles can also shift within a solo. Performers can take the music in any creative direction they want to go with it. I was experimenting with chords, and everything just sort of clicked. Then came the melody. I called it Contrast, because, in my honest opinion, I used both bright sounding and dark sounding chords in jazz. This package includes the score, the parts: both transposed (Eb and Bb) and concert pitch, and the audio demo of how it should sound. So if you're interested in buying and playing this piece of music, by all means, go for it!If you want to listen to the live performance, you can go by the YouTube link that I provided below. The audio isn't the best, but you'll be able to hear enough.

The arrangement, found here, captures the flavor of those early improvised Jazz performances. The Tenor Sax part can be played by the clarinetist for a more authentic New Orleans sound. Long Road to Georgia is a simple trad jazz tune, written at a time when I felt a longing to be back home (which isn't Georgia, that just had a better ring to it than my actual home).Do check out the recording for a mock-up rendition. The strings are improvised and aren't necessary, but make the song sound a bit sweeter. The last play-through of the tune in the recording is done with other instruments improvising around the tune for a proper Dixieland feel. I wholeheartedly recommend this - it adds so much to the overall feel if you've got other instruments noodling around. The slow, simple chord progression makes this a really good tune for people who are newer to jazz & improvisation.

The funky style with shuffled 16th notes along with the latin montuno like piano part makes this song a real groover. Horn voices are 1&2 on trumpet or alto sax, 3&4 on trombone or tenor sax. A percussion player can easily join in. There is a section where all horn players play a unison line on soprano recorders, which can be a lot of fun. However, this can also be accomplished by the keyboard player using a flute sound, if no recorders are available. For the vocals, only lyrics are provided (since it is mostly spoken). A full score and parts for all instruments are included. The mp3 does not include the guitar part, nor the improvised keyboard fills.
