Classical,Holiday,Wedding. 37 pages. RayThompsonMusic #3466544. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553661). The String Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 4, was composed by Ludwig van Beethoven in 1795. It was adapted from his Octet in E-flat major, Op. 103, which, despite its high opus number, was in fact composed by Beethoven in 1792/1793 but was published only in 1837, ten years after the composer's death. The Quintet was published in Vienna in 1796.The quintet has been viewed as a mere transcription of the octet. However, there are a few differences between the two works. In the first movement, there are significant changes in the exposition and substantial ones in the development, reprise, and ending. The ensuing Andante employs new themes and involves significant changes in the ones retained. The Scherzo and finale are also substantially different: among other alterations, a second trio was added to the former and a new alternate theme was inserted in the latter.This arrangement is for wind quintet. (Horn in Eb) but horn in F also provided.

Published by Armin Terzer (A0.942157). In a twist of fate, Beethoven’s String Quintet op.4, which is based on the Wind Octet in E flat major op.103, is here re-arranged for wind quintet. The arrangement contains all four movements in their entirety: I. Allegro con brio II. Andante III. Menuetto piu Allegretto – Trio I – Trio II IV. Finale: Presto Indicative tempo markings are provided. Total running time is 30+ minutes (but individual movements, especially the first, may be performed on their own). This arrangement is a great addition to the classical/romantic repertoire for wind quintet – its original instrumentation for wind octet really shows in the beautiful and idiosyncratic, but also virtuoso lines for every instrument. This is a workout for all players – the level is advanced.

Arranged wind quintet Horn in D, Clarinet in A Alt. parts for hn in F/clt in Bb The six Kinderstücke, Op 72, along with the separate Andante in E flat major and Sostenuto in F major, were written in 1842 for the children of F W Benecke, a London wool merchant who was the uncle of Mendelssohn’s wife, Cécile (née Jeanrenaud). Exhibiting distinctive characteristics of the Lieder ohne Worte (treble song-like melodies and ternary ABA forms, for example), these pieces belong as well to the category of children’s music, in the tradition, say, of Schumann’s Klavieralbum für die Jugend and Bizet’s later Jeux d’enfants, and evince a naive innocence reflective of their intended audience. Of the eight, Mendelssohn ultimately chose six to shape into Op 72, the last work he saw through the press. It appeared in December 1847, one month after his death, and in England with the designation of ‘Christmas pieces’. This is my arrangement of No.4 Andante.

Arranged standard wind quintetThe Four Pieces for Piano (German: Klavierstücke) Op. 119, are four character pieces for piano composed by Johannes Brahms in 1893. The collection is the last composition for solo piano by Brahms. Together with the six pieces from Op. 118, Op. 119 was premiered in London in January 1894.This is my arrangement of the 3rd piece ,an Intermezzo in C major.The length of the phrase is twelve bars, subdividing into two six-bar sections. The first six bars can certainly be heard as two three-bar units whereas the second six-bar section can rather be perceived as three times two bars. The second six-bar sub-phrase functions rhythmically as a giant hemiola.This rhythmic gracefulness is opposed by the middle section of the piece. Two eight-bar phrases, subdividing into four-bar units, try to ‘correct’ the twelve-bar phrasing.It is arguable that this piece is in binary form and the B section begins at bar 49 where new material appears.Arranged wind quintet.
