I have spread the voices around, so there is NOT a constant tutti of all 5 players The Requiem in D minor, K. 626, is a requiem mass by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791). Mozart composed part of the Requiem in Vienna in late 1791, but it was unfinished at his death on 5 December the same year. A completed version dated 1792 by Franz Xaver Süssmayr was delivered to Count Franz von Walsegg, who commissioned the piece for a requiem service on 14 February 1792 to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of his wife Anna at the age of 20 on 14 February 1791. This is no 4 of the Sequenz Recordare At 130 measures, the Recordare (Remember) is the work's longest movement, as well as the first in triple meter the movement is a setting of no fewer than seven stanzas of the Dies irae. The form of this piece is somewhat similar to sonata form, with an exposition around two themes (mm. 1–37), a development of two themes (mm. 38–92) and a recapitulation (mm. 93–98). It suits the wind quintet. Section III of the requiem is titled “Sequenz†(sequentia or sequence). It is made up of the following pieces I have arrangements of all of them, for varying types of ensemble * Dies irae * Tuba mirum * Rex tremendae * Recordare * Confutatis * Lacrymosa. I have also arranged Mozarts Motet “Ave Verum Corpus†K618.

Lullay, mine liking is a Middle English lyric poem or carol of the 15th century which frames a narrative describing an encounter of the Nativity with a song sung by the Virgin Mary to the infant Christ. The refrain is an early example of an English lullaby; the term lullaby is thought to originate with the lu lu or la la sound made by mothers or nurses to calm children, and by or bye bye, another lulling sound (for example in the similarly ancient Coventry Carol)There are a number of surviving medieval English verses associated with the birth of Jesus which take the form of a lullaby, of which this is probably the most famous example. Written by an anonymous hand, the text is found uniquely in Sloane MS 2593, a collection of medieval lyrics now held in the British Library.My arrangement is transcribed from Gustav Holst's setting of the text, which he calls Lullay, My Liking.It is number 2 from Holst's 4 Carols for Unaccompanied Choir Op.34Arranged wind quintetThe solo verses are played by oboe, flute, clarinet,oboe and bassoon together and finally horn.The refrain has been arranged in a differnt instrumental line up each time it is played.

Debussy: Danse bohémienne La Danse bohémienne (Bohemian Dance) is a piano piece composed in the late summer of 1880. This is the composer's first published piano work. It was judged by Tchaikovsky as follows...It's really a very nice thing, though really too short; not one thought is expressed through to the end and the form is extremely messy and devoid of wholeness ...  It was written when he was eighteen years old for Nadejda von Meck, Tchaikovsky's rich and generous patroness. Frank Dawes writes of the Danse bohémienne, there is perhaps a mild gipsiness that may have been picked up from the gipsy singers at the Moscow cabarets that Debussy is reputed to have frequented. In texture the piece has something of the salon style of Tchaikovsky, though very much simplified. This straightforward piece, in B minor and 2/4 time, isn't altogether without a few dashes of polka rhythm, but its only notable point of originality comes in the coda, where a tonic chord over a submediant pedal point highlights the interval of a major seventh, possible slightly Russian in character.The score was first published in 1932 by Schott (Maintence), then by Henle (1991, ed. Ernst-Günter Heinemann) and Durand (2000, ed. Roy Howat)It is arranged for standard wind quintet.

Instrumentation: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets in Bb, 2 horns in F, 2 bassoons Program note.Nancy Braithwaite, for whom I have written many works - all of them featuring her instrument the clarinet - told me that she was a member of a wind group based on Richard Strauss’ Serenade in E-flat Major, opus 7, for thirteen instruments: two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, four horns, two bassoons, and contrabassoon. I said to Nancy, I should write a piece for that group. She said that was a good idea. I soon discovered that the name of the group is La Rondine, or the swallow. I then remembered that Puccini wrote an opera called La Rondine. So I told Nancy that I might do a little research on the Puccini opera and come up with a piece inspired by thematic snippets I found in the opera. Well, I did not find Puccini’s music that conducive to a transformation into TOL music. Around the same time, I stumbled upon a 27-CD box set of nine operas by the Venetian composer Antonio Vivaldi. As I was listening to these obscure operas by Vivaldi it dawned on me that I was very attracted to what I was hearing, and it was seeping into my musical thinking in the most natural way imaginable. Very quickly I was hearing things for this work I planned to write for Nancy’s group, and the music just moved along quite smoothly from one movement into another. At the same time I began reading about Vivaldi and his life as a priest, violinist, teacher, impresario, and composer in the city of Venice and other cities nearby. What a fascinating life he led!!! I also discovered in my reading that the city of Venice at that time was called La Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia. So, instead of a serenade for ten instruments, my work for two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two horns and two bassoons, is called La Serenissima as an homage to Antonio Vivaldi and that glorious city of Venice. The horn part is  therefore written for natural horn in Bb basso.  (I  also enclose a horn in F part.) The Bb basso part is there for your horn player's delight!! (or not!!) I have taken some sympathetic liberties with the broken chords and added other notes of a sustaining nature. I have changed some of the bars containing triplet semiquavers to give a less heavy feel.
