They are also suitable for performances at events such as: weddings, Christian and church ceremonies, Easter, and academic recitals or concerts. They can be used in music institutions and by teachers as repertoire material and study methods, either for performance or instrumental technique. This collection includes a totally free bonus for you to enjoy: Martin Luther's A Mighty Fortress is Our God, a Renaissance sacred song for choir, which has been adapted for this set. You can also buy each one individually by checking right at the end of each description of each work.1: Air on the G String - The original piece is part of Johann Sebastian Bach's Suite No. 3 for orchestra, in D Major, BWV 1068, written for Prince Leopold of Anhalt. The so-called Air on the G String dates from one of these latter employments. In the service of the Prince of Cöthen, Bach composed not only the famous Brandenburg Concertos, but also several orchestral suites, from the third of which comes the Air on the G String. This curious title derives from a later arrangement of this piece for violin solo, in which the melody is played entirely on the lower, higher string of the instrument. ID: S0.11897412: Arioso - The Cantata 156 (BWV 156) was written for the third Sunday after Epiphany in 1729, and was first performed on January 23 of that year. The text is by Picander, one of Bach's favorite librettists. Of the four cantatas written by Bach for the feast, it was the last and only one scored for solo voice. This is a choral cantata, employing a choral melody in several movements. Cantata 156, in fact, employs two different choral melodies and texts in the second and sixth movements. A cantata is a sung symphony consisting of several parts, one of which is the Arioso, which is the initial instrumental part. ID: S0.11899653: Jesu, joy of man's desiring - This is one of Bach's most beautiful cantatas, made famous by the Jesus the Joy of Men chorus. It was originally composed for Advent 1716 in Weimar. Years later, already in Leipzig, Advent was tempus clausum, there was no music in the churches. Bach then reworked it for the Feast of Mary's Visitation. It is the final chorale of the cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben. Although it is the 32nd cantata composed by Bach, of those that have survived, it was given BWV 147 in the complete catalog of his works. ID: S0.11900154: O Jesulein süss, o Jesulein mild - The Jesulein süß, the Jesulein mild is an original traditional German choral melody for voice and continuous bass arranged by Johann Sebastian Bach around 1735. With lyrics by Valentin Thilo, O Jesulein süss is a sacred melody adapted and catalogued as BWV 493. The first translation is by Dirk van Hogendorp, who made it more of a song for the time of suffering. ID: S0.11901295: Minuet in G major - This famous piece has traditionally been attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach, as it appears in the Notebook for Anna Magdalena , a notebook that Bach gave to his wife Anna Magdalena in 1725 and which was to be filled with the favorite selections of Bach family members. However, recent research has concluded that this minuet, sometimes referred to as BWV Anhang 114. was probably composed by Christian Petzold, a German composer and organist contemporary with Bach. Although Chopin did not invent the nocturne, he popularized and expanded on it, building on the form developed by Irish composer John FieldThis is probably Chopin's best loved Nocturne, if not his best known piece.Unlike other arrangements you may find, my arrangement shares the melody amongst flute, clarinet and oboe.The horn provides harmony throughout, has one bar of solo, and takes the bass line for a time.The bassoon provides a mainly sustained bass line, as an impression of the piano pedal, rather than isolated quavers.I have NOT simply copied Chopins original quaver figures (in the original left hand piano) but have created an original piece as though it had been composed for wind instruments!The quintet do NOT play TUTTI all the time: this gives a more interesting and varying sound palette.ENJOY.

Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a Woodwind Quintet, consisting of 1 Flute, 1 Oboe, 1 Bb Clarinet, 1 French Horn and 1 Bassoon, and would be a wonderful addition to any music library. This arrangement will provide students with the opportunity to practice breath control because of its long, sustained phrases, and also to give them the chance to play this beautiful composition, something which they may not have had the opportunity to do, otherwise. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services and is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this arrangement. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (25 pages). The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble has performed the Trumpet Quintet version of the Recordare for funerals, providing beautiful, introspective music for the occasion. There is some controversy surrounding the circumstances of the Requiem's composition because Mozart died before he could complete it. Count Franz von Walsegg had commissioned a Requiem Mass but Mozart had received only half of the payment in advance. So, upon his death on December 5th, 1791, his widow, Constanze, wished to have the work completed secretly by someone else and submit it to the count as having been completed by Mozart to collect the final payment. Joseph von Eybler was one of the first composers to be asked to complete the score and had worked on a number of movements but felt unable to complete the remainder and gave the manuscript back to Constanze Mozart. The task was then given to another composer, Franz Xaver Sussmayr. Sussmayr borrowed some of Eybler's work in making his completion, added his own orchestration to other movements and added several new movements which a Requiem Mass would normally comprise. He then added a final section by adapting the opening two movements which Mozart had written to the different words which finish the Requiem Mass, which according to both Sussmayr and Mozart's wife, was done according to Mozart's directions. The completed score, initially by Mozart but largely finished by Sussmayr, was then dispatched to Count Walsegg complete with a counterfeited signature of Mozart dated 1792. Despite the controversy over how much of the music is actually Mozart's, the commonly performed Sussmayr version has become widely accepted by the public, and is considered one of Mozart's finest compositions. The Recordare is considered by many people to be one of the most beautiful compositions in Mozart's entire catalogue. Regis Bookshar, a trumpet player, has performed the Requiem in concert with a full orchestra, soloists and a chorus and felt that other musicians should have the opportunity to play the hauntingly beautiful Recordare as well. So, in addition to this arrangement for a Woodwind Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this beautiful composition. There are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may fine something else which may also suit your needs. This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.Silent Night is probably the most popular Christmas carol ever written. It was composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr and was first performed on Christmas Eve at St. Nicholas parish church in Oberndorf, a small village in present-day Austria. A young Catholic priest, Father Joseph Mohr, had written the poem, Stille Nacht, in 1816 and had gone to Oberndorf in 1817. The melody was composed by Franz Xaver Gruber, schoolmaster and organist in the nearby village of Arnsdorf. On Christmas Eve, 1818, Mohr brought the words to Gruber and asked him to compose a melody and guitar accompaniment for that night's mass, after river flooding had possibly damaged the church organ. The church was eventually destroyed by repeated flooding and has since been replaced with the Silent-Night-Chapel.According to Gruber, Karl Mauracher, an organ builder who serviced the instrument at the Oberndorf church, was enamored with the song, and took the composition home with him to the Ziller Valley in Tyrol, Austria. From there, two traveling families of folk singers, the Strassers and the Rainers, included the tune in their shows. The Rainers were already singing it around Christmas, 1819, and once performed it for an audience that included Franz I of Austria and Alexander I of Russia. They also gave the first performance of the song in the United States in New York City in 1839. By the 1840's, the song was well known and was reported to be a favorite of Frederick William IV of Prussia. During this period, the melody changed slightly to become the version that is commonly heard today. The version of the melody that is generally used today is a slow, meditative lullaby, or pastoral, differing slightly from Gruber's original which has a moderate tempo. The song has been translated into about 140 languages and has been recorded by many singers across many music genres. The version sung by Bing Crosby in 1935, has sold over 10 million copies as a single.In this arrangement of Silent Night, Regis Bookshar has kept the basic form of this familiar Christmas carol, but has also included a descant during the third verse. Also, in addition to this version for a Woodwind Quintet, consisting of 1 Flute, 1 Oboe, 1 Clarinet, 1 French Horn and 1 Bassoon, there are other arrangements of Silent Night available for a variety of instrumental ensembles. It was composed in Leipzig, and received its first performance by 1731–1732.Bach scored the motet for double choir. It was probably composed for a funeral, as others of his motets but exact dates of composition and performance are not known. It is his only motet without biblical text. He set a poem by Paul Thymich, which Johann Schelle set as a funeral aria in 1684. Also unusually, the motet is not closed by a chorale, but by an aria which is harmonized like a chorale.The work has been described as having a confident, intimate and tender character, and making more use of polychorality (interplay of the two choirs) than polyphony (interplay of the voices). However, the space is not completely empty, between, the vacuum consists of electromagnetic radiation, magnetic fields and dust and cosmic rays. Within this space, planets and moon freely orbits in their path. An unseen force is behind the organized path and movement of these planets in the galaxy. This movement uses different aspects of palindrome concept to depict the organised space in music. First, the time signature expands and contracts in palindromic fashion, indicating an orderly manner in which the music orbits. Next, the intervals expands exponentially and also contracts in retrograde fashion. Analysis This movement uses palindrome concept for compositional technique. Rhythmically, it is palindromic in nature. The note values starts from a minim to dotted crotchet, crotchet, quaver, semiquavers. The time signature also expands and contract palandromically, starting from 2/4, 3/4 , 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 5/4, 4/4, 3/4, 2/4. The intervallic relationships are also in palindrome. Ascending from middle C the interval starts with Minor 2nd and expands exponentially to Major 2nd, Minor 3rd , Major 3rd, Perfect 4th , Augmented 4th , Perfect 5th to the tonic. Conversely, the intervals descend in similar fashion. French Horn begins with Low G (Concert C) and builds up this set of intervals reaching high B (Concert E). This melody is repeated by the Clarinet at the start of the new time signature of 3/ 4. Oboe enters at the next time signature of 4 /4. Flute at time signature of 5/4 and Bassoon at time signature of 6/4. The retrograde inversion of this motif is announced by the French Horn, this time starting on its high G (Concert C). Behind all this build up, the intervallic motif as shown above is played. At section A, this motif is announced without the rhythmic palindrome. The motif and its inversion builds up to a climax and re-asserts its presence with all the instruments playing at Bar before rehearsal mark B. The piece ends with the French horn performing the same motif at the beginning of this movement. Second Movement - Celestial Bodies Synopsis Celestial bodies or Astronomical objects refers to a single cohesive structure that is bound together usually by gravity or electromagnetism. Some examples includes asteroids, moons, planets and the stars. These objects or bodies may range from a single planet to star clusters, nebulae or entire galaxies and they have their position in space. This movement uses whole tone scale. The whole tone scale is used in this movement as it does not create sharp dissonances and the space between each interval is equal whichever way you stack the notes. The main melody, 8 bars long is repeated in canonic fashion. A countermelody is announced and also repeated by the ensemble in canonic fashion. Thereafter, both melodies will merge and this movement ends with a chord consisting of the whole tone scale starting on B. The music gradually unveils the each axis of the motion in which the astronomi.

This brand-new piece for wind quintet came about through the coronavirus lockdown and my observations of our UK politicians and how they behaved (One rule for them...) In terms of the music, each line is related to other lines through patterns of 5, 7 or 9 beats (or half beats). Each repetition of the pattern starts with all the instruments in that particular group playing on the first beat. As the music progresses and develops, motifs appear out of the combinations of these beats with each other. Gradually, these patterns and motifs develop melodies which then form the backbone of the piece. The first section (I hesitate to use the term movement) labelled Plotting develops a character of wiliness. It represents, in its twisting strands, the plotting of politicians to aggrandise themselves. The bottom 3 parts form an 'undercurrent' to the music as the 5,7 and 9 beat counts overlap and process. The flute and oboe, meanwhile, generate the first melodic strand - which becomes important in the later movements. The opening quaver patterns are passed around the whole ensemble, keeping the rhythmic pulse going. It slips between the anchoring notes of the lower 3 parts, as well as being essential to the development of the flute and oboe melodic material and stopping the bassoon part being too boring! The long winding, rising and falling line on the oboe and flute is deliberately ambiguous in its tonality, leading one to feel it strives upwards, but then loses its way. The frequent dissonances as this line crosses itself in the other parts represents the effect of all the plotting on ordinary people. Before letter B, there are a couple of brief hints of Dies Irae, but I didn’t want that idea to dominate too much. After B and into C, we get the day-to-day chitchat in Westminster, with interjections from many voices proclaiming their message, trying to persuade their colleagues and just leading to confusion and tonal extremism. From letter C to the end of the section is an extended accel/stretto as the discussion gets more heated. Section 2 is titled Scheming. The tempo is faster than the previous section, but the pace is slower. More motives have formed and developed organically out of the rhythm and pitch patterns. The 5/7/9 cross rhythms are now at double speed, giving a fiercer drive to the music. The bassoon and horn, for now, adhere to the longer pulse of the first section, providing something of a harmonic underpinning. At bar 101, the long but now slightly broken narrative line of the first movement returns in modified form. This now provides a backdrop for the rhythmic bartering and ‘back and forth’ of the political day. The section reaches a climax as the political bickering becomes rowdier. Section 3 begins in a relatively happy mood. The bassoon has a jolly capering little motif, later taken up by other members of the ensemble. There are hints of English folk tune-ness in the resulting conversation, perhaps emphasised by the overlays of this pleasant melody from letter D. Letter E is a ‘turning point’ as all the rhythmic pulses finally align again. This is the first time all five parts have played on the same beat since the opening. At Letter G, a pulsing drone is added to the mix, using the quaver version of the pulse. Perhaps representing the soring of politicians. There is a parallel drone added at letter H, these drones use the 5 (bassoon) and 7 (horn) beat pulses. The result is a solid underpinning of the rhythmic and melodic ideas in the upper 3 parts. After letter I comes a reprise of the spritely bassoon motif with dissonant harmonies as the discussion becomes more heated. The little semiquaver figures have the rhythm Mr. Speaker as members of the house shout for attention. In the repeat bars, we hear the Speaker shout Order! Letter J provides an altered reprise of the begi.

Donuts, if you make a mistake!The initial incarnation of these studies were written for trombone quartet and we would play them in the Tennessee Tech Trombone Choir with the challenge that whomever made the first mistake had to buy donuts for the rest of the ensemble. Since then I have brought that version to several clinics and warm up sessions. One time before I got to explain the title, a fellow trombone professor said, Oh, I get it! Don’t step in the holes!I only wish I had thought of that myself... Since we have one of the best donut shops in TN here in Cookeville, treating the studio to sugar coated goodies was always my intent.As with those initial exercises, you can vary these as much as you’d like.· Choose a tempo.· Choose a dynamic.· Choose an articulation/style.One way I like to play these is to have one person be the model, playing the entire scale over and over while everyone else plays the fragmented versions. That helps everyone to keep on track and stay in time. Double or triple up the parts for ensemble cohesion with a larger group.Practice one key, gradually speeding it up to improve fluidity, or choose a variation and take it through all keys, playing version A, B, C, or D then skipping to play the same set in a new key.If you want an additional challenge, play them in different octaves or change the key. Play the F Major set in f minor (all forms), different modes, etc. Players really have to be on their toes to remember if they are playing melodic minor in the ascending or descending form! For jazz players, try swinging them in dorian or mixolydian modes.The variations are endless!If you are using these with transposing instruments, 1) is F Major in Concert Pitch, 2) is Bb Major in Concert pitch, and so on. When you reach a scale that is enharmonic for another key (Db/C#, Gb/F#, or Cb/B), they are presented in both keys for each instrument so Trumpets can play in Eb while the Flutes are playing in C# with similar examples for all keys.All Donut Etudes with the same volume number are compatible so you can play them in mixed quartets or large ensembles with one or more instruments/people on part 1 and a different instrument on part 2, etc. Since the quartets are all identical, conductors/coaches can use any of the scores to tell which part should be playing at what time. Once you have played a scale with one set of parts, everyone can rotate to a different part and play the same scales again!Enjoy!

This must-have arrangement would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts and recitals and could also be performed for church services. This brilliant work by Johann Sebastian Bach is an adaptation of Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto for Four Violins and String Orchestra in B minor. Bach had gotten to know Vivaldi's concertos while he was an organist at Weimar, where he transcribed ten of them for solo harpsichord and six of them for organ. Originally written in B minor, Bach transposed it to A minor and, while preserving the melodic outline as conceived by Vivaldi for four violins, this later adaptation, from around 1730, for four harpsichords and string orchestra, is far more ambitious. In it, Bach has both tightened and expanded Vivaldi's counterpoint, enriched it with lusher harmonies and expanded the solo parts with greater complexity and greater clarity. The result is a composition that actually improves on the original work. Written in the standard three-movement concerto form of the Baroque period, Bach's Concerto for Four Claviers in A minor is a virtuoso piece for the soloists. Regis Bookshar has now rearranged the first movement of this concerto, marked Allegro, for a Woodwind Quintet, consisting of 1 Flute, 1 Oboe, 1 Clarinet, 1 French Horn and 1 Bassoon, while maintaining the energy and virtuosity of Bach's original work. This arrangement is intended to be performed by accomplished players and may prove to be a huge challenge for many players, but, I think, it will be worth the effort. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (43 pages). In addition to this version for a Woodwind Quintet, other arrangements of this selection are also available for a variety of Instrumental Quintets, some of which are in the original key of Concert A minor and some have been transposed to Concert G minor, making it a little easier for some performers, as well as numerous other arrangements in a wide variety of styles. I would encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar. You may find something else which might interest you as well. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement will be a challenge to many performers but will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed working on it.
