In the service of the Prince of Cöthen, Bach composed not only the famous Brandenburg Concertos, but also several orchestral suites, from the third of which comes the Air on the G String. Lullay, mine liking is a Middle English lyric poem or carol of the 15th century which frames a narrative describing an encounter of the Nativity with a song sung by the Virgin Mary to the infant Christ. The refrain is an early example of an English lullaby; the term lullaby is thought to originate with the lu lu or la la sound made by mothers or nurses to calm children, and by or bye bye, another lulling sound (for example in the similarly ancient Coventry Carol)There are a number of surviving medieval English verses associated with the birth of Jesus which take the form of a lullaby, of which this is probably the most famous example. Written by an anonymous hand, the text is found uniquely in Sloane MS 2593, a collection of medieval lyrics now held in the British Library.My arrangement is transcribed from Gustav Holst's setting of the text, which he calls Lullay, My Liking.It is number 2 from Holst's 4 Carols for Unaccompanied Choir Op.34Arranged wind quintetThe solo verses are played by oboe, flute, clarinet,oboe and bassoon together and finally horn.The refrain has been arranged in a differnt instrumental line up each time it is played.

Because of its caracter, It can work perfectly as an introduction piece or for a little surprise encore in the end of a concert. It is also very easy to play, very appropriate for music students and beginners. And of course righten by no other than Mozart it is the perfect piece for great artists and performers. The original score was written for the pianoforte. I did an arrangement for woodwind quintet and made an extent use of interpretation symbols like fortes and pianos, crescendos etc., wish where total absent in the original score. I also had to shorten the length of some notes in order to facilitate the interpretation of the piece on woodwind instruments. Otherwise all the original notes are left unchanged. The score was written on Finale. The sound file, was performed with samplers from Garritan and conceived as an audio support for the presentation of the score. This is the first time that this version is published in Sheet Music Plus or anywhere else. Thanks to Claudia Eppelt for the all the Love the wonderful Art cover and design. In modern times the Persian composer Mohammad Noori made an arrangement of these folk songs using a sythesizer and put words to the melody. This arrangement does not follow that arrangement. It has been recomposed.
