This 2-hands piano version is fairly difficult and requires large stretches at times, but for those who like a challenge it is well worth it. However, we decided it would be good to provide 4-hands versions as well, which are easier to perform and also available on this site. The original stories behind the movements are: 1. Marie for shame - based on a setting of the poem Marie, vous estes paresseuse - Marie for shame you keep a-bed too long, you must get up and enjoy life. 2. Nocturne is basically a segue to the first movement, in which Marie yawns and goes back to sleep! The harmonies are rich and yet somnolent. 3. Camp David is a sprightly number based on the Yiddish folksong Ikh bin a meidel in de joren - I am a maiden come of age and I am looking for a husband. 4. Blue Boar Blue is based on a poem by a friend stuck studying in his college room (Blue Boar Quad at Christ Church Oxford) but dreaming of sunny outings to the river and punting. The sound samples are electronic previews. In the case of the 4-hands versions, the pdf files include the score and also separate piano parts. The original string quintets are also available on this site.

It's at an intermediate playing level, which the transposition to Am facilitates.

This was my attempt to make something that is formless, no template for rehashing, but something truly original. I have tried to carry that spirit with my subsequent songs. I'd like to give you my art for free, but sadly this world wants me to be a slave to my employer and I'm not making enough money, so here I am trying to sell my music. I feel like the spirit of art aught to be a spirit of creation and giving. Modern art has perverted this spirit to one of copying and marketing... I hope you enjoy this, I put a lot of effort and heart into it.

This 2-hands piano version is fairly difficult and requires large stretches at times, but for those who like a challenge it is well worth it. However, we decided it would be good to provide 4-hands versions as well, which are easier to perform and also available on this site. The original stories behind the movements are: 1. Written in the style of nocturne, it is one of the most famous songs in Debussy's work. And also it is often featured as a repertoire among classical pianos as a whole.In this arrangement, while respecting the original song, bold “reharmonization†(change of chord) is applied. And further, an opening section as fade-in effect and an ending section extending the aftertaste time are added. All of them are used for creating new attractive of this song. And, I am also inspired by the title “A sentimental promenade which had been named at the time of publication in 1900-1901. There are many weak sounds throughout this song, but each phrase requires a rich expression centered on romanticism. At the same time, it is also important for the phrase to be passed down smoothly, and especially in the middle part, a flowing propulsion is required. I hope that those elements will be organically linked to the harmony taste, which is the key to this arrangement. Commissioned by conductor Keiko Kobayashi, and the Sony Concert Band. I am a Singaporean pianist and composer. I have studied the piano since 5 years old under Mr Joseph Toh and I graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts with a Diploma in Music in 2013, majoring in Music Composition under Malaysian composer Mr Chong Kee Yong and Singaporean composer Mrs Joyce Koh Bee Tuan. About Six Preludes I started composing this set of Six Preludes for piano in 2014 and revised in 2020. The first piece of this set is Walking. There are different types of walks one can imagine. Octaves in the left hand at the opening represents walking sluggishly, whilst the middle section’s running right hand and jokingly bass notes representing a quick stroll. The Adagio recititavo part represents tip-toeing and finally the quasi cadenza part represents a trip on the floor, ouch! The second piece, which is nicknamed Joke, is a parody of Chopin’s Scherzo no. 1 in B minor, Op. 20. Take this piece as a lame unfunny joke, as in the slow coda, which is a sigh after listening to this joke. Night Song, as the name says, means a piece to be played at night, most commonly associate with pieces like Nocturnes, Barcarolles etc. The fourth piece, Chopin, is a homage to Chopin. I chose his Prelude in G and B flat minor, Op. 28 no. 3 and no. 16 respectively as sources of inspirations. Vision is a poly-tonality piece. Sometimes what we think or see, may not always end up the way it is. Hence, I hope to create this double effect by using the keys at the same time. The final piece of this set is a Fughetta. A fughetta is a small fugue. This piece is actually a piano transcription of the 3rd movement of my Three Colours (for Clarinet in B flat, Violin and Cello) which is composed and premiered in 2012. I revised and edited some sections. This is a 12-tone work. The P0 and R0 makes up the subject of this piece, while R11 makes up the countersubject. Six Preludes is dedicated to my friend Ng Yu Fei.
