Instrumental Duet Harpsichord,Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.958468 Composed by Joseph Dillon Ford. 20th Century. Score and parts. 3 pages. David Warin Solomons2 #3691563. Published by David Warin Solomons2 (A0.958468). The Fuga a tre voci was composed on 28 March 1976 not long before I moved from Miami to Cambridge to begin graduate study in music at Harvard. It remained an imperfect sketch in need of extensive revisions, and languished for a quarter-century in a manila file folder until I rediscovered it late in 2001 and was pleased to find that it was worth the trouble of resurrecting. This was no easy task, as it was my original intention to comply closely with eighteenth-century contrapuntal practices. Although I had written numerous polyphonic pieces in a similar style since 1976, none of these was a fugue. There was also the challenge of reconnecting with musical ideas I had originated at the age of twenty-four at a time in my life when I was rapidly approaching the age of fifty. Still, I persevered in my efforts to revive and improve this early polyphonic essay, and hope the performer and listener will be as pleased with the results as I am. This three-voice fugue can be performed by any instrument or combination of instruments, including the harpsichord.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.955722 Composed by Phil Thrift. Baroque,Classical. Score. 3 pages. Phil Thrift #5337153. Published by Phil Thrift (A0.955722). This is the first in a set of miniatures for piano – a fugue unashamedly in the style of Bach. I tried not to let any 20th century Thrift elements creep in! As usual with fugues, the challenge is to bring out the independent lines.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1324803 Composed by David Tsvariani. Classical,Contemporary. Score. 4 pages. David Tsvariani #913012. Published by David Tsvariani (A0.1324803). Fugues Op. 17 for Piano by David TsvarianiIntroduction:Allow me to share a few thoughts about my recent composition, Fugues Op. 17, for piano. Comprising four individual fugues that can be performed separately or as a complete suite, this work explores a range of tempos, keys, and thematic nuances. I've endeavored to create a modest collection that, when performed together, offers a glimpse into various emotional landscapes.Fugue No. 1 in C Major (Allegro vivace):The journey begins with the lively Allegro vivace in C major, a modest 01:44 celebration of joy and energy. It is my hope that this piece, with its brisk tempo, serves as a lively opening to the collection, showcasing the pianist's skill and the intricate counterpoint I aimed to achieve.Fugue No. 2 in B-flat Major (Andante):The second fugue, marked Andante with a duration of 02:25, introduces a contemplative mood in the key of B-flat major. In my modest attempt, this piece invites the listener to reflect and explore a more introspective side, providing a gentle contrast to the preceding fugue.Fugue No. 3 in A Major (Adagio):With a deliberate pace of 02:57 and an Adagio tempo, the third fugue in A major emphasizes melody and expression. My humble intention was to create a serene and emotional landscape, allowing the listener to experience a deeper connection with the music.Fugue No. 4 in D Major (Allegretto):The final fugue, an Allegretto in D major, lasts a mere 01:40. In a departure from convention, I introduced an Eastern or oriental scale, aiming to infuse the composition with a unique character. It is my modest hope that this unexpected touch adds a distinctive flavor to the overall work.Program Notes:As I share Fugues Op. 17, I am mindful of the privilege of having my compositions interpreted by talented performers. My sincere aspiration was to create a humble collection that weaves together varied emotions and styles. The inclusion of a melodic third fugue and the exoticism of the fourth fugue seeks to expand the tonal palette modestly. I hope that, as a whole, this collection speaks with a quiet resonance, leaving room for interpretation and connection between the music, the performer, and the listener. With gratitude, David Tsvariani.

2 Pianos,4 Hands,Piano Duet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.991619 Composed by Antonis Koundourakis. Concert,Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 11 pages. ANTONIOS KOUNDOURAKIS #3471903. Published by ANTONIOS KOUNDOURAKIS (A0.991619). In this piece Antonis explores the polyphonic and the homophonic style of composition with the added benefit and freedom of having 2 extra hands on the keyboard. Therefore there is a wide range being used simultaneously and in many cases the piece requires good coordination of the performers while in other cases independence of dynamics and phrasing. There is an extended period of stretto immitations, normally found in the style of the Fugue, and a 7 voice homophonic section resembling choral music. The different styles are juxtaposed in the form of a conversation, hence the title of the piece. This piece is ideal for live performance but can also be played by teacher and student while interchanging the parts they play for added benefit of learing coordination and understanding the challenges of the other performer when playing together. In case you buy and perform the piece don't hesitate to contact Antonis at midnightnotesband@gmail.com to give him any feedback on the score legibility/playability and the experience of playing his composition! Videos are also very welcome!

Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd (The lively hunt is all my heart's desire), BWV 208 is the earliest secular cantata by Bach composed in 1713 for the birthday of the Duke of Weissenfels. It is also called the Hunting Cantata, and/or the Birthday Cantata. The most famous piece from this collection is the soprano aria Sheep may safely graze. Duration: 5:50, Score - 6 pg. Solo part - 2 pg. Piano part - 3 pg. 41 ms. Melodic range: M10 Level: Early intermediate and up. A popular choice for weddings, Christmas, Easter, birthdays, and recitals. Sheep May Safely Graze Sheep may safely graze (Schafe können sicher weiden) is an aria from the Cantata BWV 208. The title of the Cantata, Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd (nicknamed the Hunting Cantata) translates as The lively hunt is all my heart's desire. Programming Similar to Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, or I Stand at the Threshold, it is an all-time favorite and frequently requested at weddings. Originally, Bach composed this aria for a royal birthday celebration, that of the Duke of Saxe-Weissenfels. Lyrics Sheep may safely graze and pasture In a watchful Shepherd’s sight. Those who rule with wisdom guiding Bring to hearts a peace abiding Bless a land with joy made bright.  Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Indeed, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. People are probably most familiar with instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio.  History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he, therefore, gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer.  Style It seems like Bach created a fascinating new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival        Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV.

Score and parts. 13 pages. Giulio Castronovo #6259401. Published by Giulio Castronovo (A0.945802). Wolfgang Amadeus wrote the Fugue for 2 pianos in C minor KV 426 in December 1783, most probably under the influence of the fugues by Handel and Bach he had got acquainted with at the home of Baron Gottfried van Swieten. Some years later, he arranged the fugue for string orchestra, adding an introductory Adagio. This new piece (KV 546) was entered into Mozart's own catalogue of works on 26 June 1788.Musicologist Robert D. Levin wrote about the Adagio: Angular outbursts alternate with an unearthly hush; its suggestions of violence and mysticism make the ensuing geometry of the fugue seem a relief. This arrangement of Mozart's Adagio & Fugue in C minor for piano duet is based on the orchestral score, but it incorporates some details and features of the 2 piano version in the fugue. It is perfect for enjoying it at home, for study/analysis purposes and for conducting classes.

Bass Flute,Instrumental Solo,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549355 Composed by Bach-Gounod. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Contemporary,Easter,Wedding. Score and individual part. 11 pages. Jmsgu3 #3490019. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549355). This arrangement follows the original Bach prelude and so excludes the extra measure that Schwencke introduced in 1783. If you prefer the extra measure, please see Bach-Gounod: Ave Maria, Schwencke version for Violin & Piano. The convenient 1st & 2nd endings provide an option for extended performance with minimal page turns for the accompanist. The duration with repeat is about 4:50. Score: 6 pages. Solo part: 1 page, piano part: 4 pages. Based on Prelude #1 in C Major from the Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1. Well suited for church meditations or school programs or recital encores. Ave Maria Ave Maria is a Catholic prayer that consequently asks for the mother of Jesus (Mary) to intercede. Charles Gounod composed a famous version of the Ave Maria. He was a French Romantic composer who overlaid a new melody on an existing Bach chord progression. The progression is from Bach’s Prelude No. 1 from Well-Tempered Clavier I. This version, as well as Schubert’s version, have become essential items at weddings, masses, and funerals. Piano,Soprano Flute - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1499262 Composed by James Albert Yeager. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary. Score and part. 43 pages. James A. Yeager #1075315. Published by James A. Yeager (A0.1499262). Foreword:Each movement revisits classic paradigms— (I & II) ternary song form,(III) theme & variations. The third movement treats the two themes as children at play with games such as tag and hide-and-seek as variations. Both themes become partner songs leading to fugue, which is, after all, the ultimate musical game.Performance Notes:I Moderato, slurs in the flute suggest phrasing but are optional in terms of breathing. The B section at letter C has a canon between flute and piano (left-hand) which suggests imitation in articulations and dynamics. The climax just before letter D can be stretched slightly more than poco rit. implies. II Slowly gently, must not be played slower than indicated. The middle section at letter B begins with a subito forte. At 3 measures before letter C the fermatas allow a certain freedom. When the flute releases the piano can continue the left-hand chord. The piano should use una corda in the bridge at letter C. Elsewhere, the piano may also employ una corda in quiet places ad libitum. At final note the flute can fade to nothing if breath runs out and just remain in pose as the final note of the piano is allowed to vanish.III Majestic with vigour, two given themes from ca. 1934 are Old Abram Brown by Benjamin Britten and Kookabura Sits on the Old Gum Tree by Marion Sinclair and both are rounds for children. The flute boldly declares theme one at the outset. The piano arpeggiations begin sonorously and quiet before letter A. In Variation 1 the piano must begin softer than the low register flute. The piano left-hand upper notes [A, then G, then D-A fifth) may require use of the sostenuto pedal. Variation 2 is a caccia or chase. Variation 3 is a barcarolle where theme 1 is hiding in the flute part. Variation 4 introduces the second theme (flute) in partnership with theme 1 (piano). Four measures before letter I the piano makes an ogre of theme 2 and should be humorously ponderous. The fugue subject might be the teacher who brings everyone into the final partner song of themes. The piece finishes as it began except for a wistful ending.James Albert Yeager (b.1946)James began his career as organist and choral conductor then harpsichordist and finally, professor of sacred music. As an organ major at The Ohio State University, he studied with Dr. Wilbur Held (B.Mus. 1969). Professor Joseph Goodman mentored him in composition at Union Theological Seminary in New York city (M. Sac. Mus, 1971). At the University of Colorado-Boulder, he returned to the organ, nevertheless, keeping composition as a mainstay (D.M.A. 1985). While in Colorado he composed two film scores for student filmmakers as well as choral and organ compositions. He was appointed Director of Sacred Music at the Pontifical College Josephinum (Columbus, Ohio) and rose to the rank of Professor (1984-2009). He retired as professor emeritus in 2009 and moved to New Mexico. While residing in Mountainair, New Mexico, he was organist/choral director for 12 years at a major Albuquerque church retiring again in 2021. He led choirs of all ages from children through the elderly. His most recent compositions include Passacaglia & Fugue for Organ and Chamber Orchestra (2022), a Fugue for Piano and Orchestra (2022), a Sonatina for Flute and Piano(2023), and the Sonata for Piano Quintet (2024) as well as several smaller works for voice and piano.

Flute,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548462 Composed by Johann Pachelbel. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Wedding. Score and part. 8 pages. Jmsgu3 #3386271. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548462). Pachelbel's Canon arranged for alto flute & piano. Great for weddings & receptions. Pachelbel's Canon Pachelbel's Canon is, in fact, the traditional title for a composition by the German composer Johann Pachelbel. Other names for the work include namely: Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo, Canon and Gigue in D, and of course Canon in D. We do not know when or why in particular it was written. The oldest copy is surprisingly from the 19th century. It is important to realize that it was a common routine for organists to practice improvisation on the chord progression underlying the canon. Pachelbel originally scored the Canon notably for three violins and continuo. He also in fact paired the Canon with a gigue. The movements are homotonal, to clarify, both are in the key of D major. History In due time, Pachelbel's Canon went out of style and remained in virtual oblivion for centuries. The Jean-François Paillard chamber orchestra, however, recorded an arrangement of it in 1968. As a result, it gained approval.  Many ensembles began likewise to record the piece in the 1970s and by the 1980s became ubiquitous as background music. From the 1970s to the early 2000s, pop songs correspondingly used elements of the piece. The chord progression, in particular, was used this way. Also, since the 1980s, it has been not only wildly popular for weddings, but also for funeral ceremonies in the USA and Europe. Pachelbel Background Johann Pachelbel (1653 –1706) was a German composer, as well as an organist. He was furthermore instrumental in bringing the south German organ school to its apex. He wrote a large body of music, both sacred and, equally important, secular. In particular, he uniquely helped develop the chorale prelude and fugue. For this, he has, in fact, earned a rightful place in the company of the most significant composers of the mid-Baroque period. Works Pachelbel's music was certainly popular. With this in mind, he also consequently had many pupils. His music expressly developed into a model for the south German composers. Nowadays, Pachelbel is most famous particularly for the Canon in D, as well as the F minor Chaconne, the Toccata in E minor, and of course the Hexachordum Apollinis, a set of variations for the keyboard. Influences Johann Jakob Froberger and Johann Caspar Kerll were south German composers who significantly influenced Pachelbel. Furthermore, he was especially influenced by Italians such as Frescobaldi and Poglietti. He frequently preferred an articulate, simple contrapuntal style that highlighted clarity. His music is markedly less extravagant and harmonically adventurous than that of Dieterich Buxtehude. However, as a point often overlooked, like Buxtehude, Pachelbel experimented with different instrumental combinations in his chamber music. Legacy All in all, Pachelbel was most famous as a composer for the keyboard. He composed over two hundred pieces specifically for the instrument. Pachelbel was also surprisingly a prolific composer of vocal music. All in all, about a hundred vocal works survive, including 40 or so large-scale works.Â

Jmsgu3 #3385399. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548460). The famous Pachelbel Canon arranged for viola & piano.
