Now I'm introducing Incy Wincy Spider as it might have been played by Beethoven, Mozart, Handel, Burgmuller and Chopin but adding in a bit of jazz. Great for a short concert performance, this piece is both fun and a challenge. The video of the piece also proved a bit of fun, thanks to the spider and a pesky little fly. Hopefully, the composers borrowed from won't think it should be The Wincing Spider Variations .

Published by Samuel Wellman (A0.882111). This is a parody of Mozart's Sonata K. 545, first movement. Since he termed it 'Sonata facile,' I took 'facile' and made an English equivalent. What greater fun is there than taking an over-played work and turning it into laughs and giggles? My version starts with a bitonal setting, but quickly becomes something more complicated. The left hand gets involved; no more of this 'all-the- work-is-in-the-right-hand' stuff. Jazz chords intrude; Tchaikovsky makes an appearance (after all, he adored Mozart). It's a lark, a humorous lampoon. Humor in music is alive and well!

This is a „take another crossroad version of Mozart´s famous Little Night Music, written by Austrian Arranger and Composer Augustin Lehfuss – a wild and funny arrangement for string quartet in a unusual latin style. Everybody knows the triad motive at the beginning of Mozart´s original composition, which reappears several times throughout the piece. The idea was, that the performing quartet, while playing the original work of Mozart – tired of always playing the same classical music – „turns left any time the characteristic motive appears, and switches to the latin version which is sold here. Then it runs wild for a while and enjoys Mozart´s theme in a crazy latin style, bevor, finally disciplinized again, finishes in Mozart´s original ending of his „Little Night Music. From the „turn out of Mozart´s original piece until the original ending the latin arrangement lasts about three minutes . For this arrangement starts with the famous triad motive, it can also be played as a stand alone version, though recognizable for the audience. There are phrasings and dynamics indicated in this arrangement, but every quartet should feel free to choose their own phrasings. According to Mozart's letters to his father, Dürnitz played the flute very well, and Mozart was impressed by his abilities. It is believed that Mozart composed this sonata specifically for Dürnitz, who may have performed it with Mozart accompanying him on the piano. Published by James Strauss (A0.1035224). Unless your name is Mozart, Mendelssohn or Korngold, the first compositional steps are always the hardest. Chopin was probably no older than 14 when he set to work on a set of variations for piano and flute. Already in love with opera, he decided on the happy- ending aria, Non più mesta (No longer sad) from Rossini’s opera Cinderella. As the curtain comes down, Cinderella gleefully warbles, No longer sad beside the fire shall I sit alone, singing; my long years of heartache were but a streak of lightning, a dream, a game. We are unsure what actually prompted Chopin to select this for his unique combination of flute and piano, but it was most likely written for the composer’s father who was a capable amateur flute player. In the end, the piece was probably dedicated to Józef Cichowski, a close friend of his fathers and an amateur flautist as well. We are indeed fortunate that this early piece of Chopin juvenilia has actually survived, as Jozef Nowakowski, one of the composer’s friends, kept the single manuscript copy as a memento. For one reason or another, the work did not appear in print until 1953. This charming and fluent set of variations presents the theme and four decorated versions of the original tune. Added triplet figuration enlivens the first variation, while the second relies on a florid bel canto style to embellish the theme. Rapid downward arpeggios propel variation three, and the concluding variant displays rapid staccato figuration. Stylistically, there is nothing in this composition to suggest Chopin’s hand. You certainly won’t hear Chopin’s fingerprint in the piano part, as all the interesting bits are given to the flute. In addition, it’s the only Chopin piano part that can comfortably be played by most amateurs. Clearly, the future poet of the piano had a long way to go! Here in a Flute and orchestra version.

When arranging the overture of Rossini's opera Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville) the choice of the original source is an important question, as there exist more versions in different scorings, with or without piccolo flute, with or without trombones. In this case the arranger was to be chosen the scientific original text edition published by the Rossini foundation. The arrangement is transposed from the original key E to E flat. The ad libitum parts of Euphonium and Tuba are only recommended to be used, if there is a lack of low winds and double bass players in the orchestra performing. This arrangement was first time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their Three Kings' Concert on 6th January 2010 in the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria and broadcasted live by Austrian television. L'imperatore subito ordinò che la musica fosse reinserita.Così Le Nozze di Figaro , finita di comporre il 29 aprile, fu messa in scena al Burgtheater di Vienna, il 1º maggio 1786 con Nancy Storace (Susanna), Francesco Benucci (Figaro) e Michael Kelly (tenore) (Basilio e Don Curzio) , diretta dal compositore nelle prime due rappresentazioni e da Joseph Weigl nelle repliche. Ottenne un successo strepitoso, al punto che l'Imperatore, dopo la terza recita, dovette emanare un decreto per limitare le richieste di bis, in modo che le repliche non durassero troppo. Ancor più grande fu il successo al Teatro Nazionale di Praga (dal 17 gennaio 1787), colomba (una detta di Mozart): «Qui non sta che che del Figaro, non si suona, non si strombetta, non si canta, non si fischia che il Figaro, non si va a sentire altra opera che il Figaro. Eternamente Figaro! ».L'opera è in quattro atti e ruota attorno alle trame del Conte d'Almaviva, invaghito della cameriera della Contessa, Susanna, alla quale cerca di imporre lo ius primae noctis. La vicenda si svolge in un intreccio serrato e folle, in cui donne e uomini si contrappongono nel corso di una giornata di passione travolgente, piena sia di eventi drammatici che comici, e nella quale alla fine i servi si dimostrano più signori e intelligenti dei loro padroni. L'opera è per Mozart (e prima di lui per Beaumarchais) un pretesto per prendersi gioco delle classi sociali dell'epoca che da lì a poco saranno travolte dai fatti con la Rivoluzione francese. L'intera vicenda può anche essere letta come una metafora delle diverse fasi dell'amore: Cherubino e Barbarina rappresentano l'amore acerbo, Susanna e Figaro l'amore che sboccia, il Conte e la Contessa l'amore logorato e senza più alcuna passione, Marcellina e don Bartolo l'amore maturo.
