Around the same time, Idiscovered a Facebook post by Karen Jones (wife of my friend and owner of Imagine Music, Ric Jones) expressinga poetic message about hope, faith, and community. This piece is inspired by a small quote from that posting:....(when) you see children comforting one another, something inside loosens just a little. And the clouds break for amoment, and faith is found in the light.This piece is dedicated to Steven's unborn child, soon to be the light of his life. I hope it will serve as a reminder that,though there will be struggles (there always are when raising children), the clouds will alwaysbreak and the light is always present.

I still like to watch the sunriseand see the sun peek through the clouds, sometimes evening hiding behind the clouds and have some rain before the sun shines fully upon the ground. My favorite time is watching the sunrise in the spring, just after a soft spring rain. The dark gloomy sky starts to appear light as the sun shines through the clouds as the dark sky slowly gives way to the warm spring sun.

Published by Kreechur Kumfort Publishing (A0.833833). Storm at King’s Pointe was composed for the Buena Vista Middle School Honor Band at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. Originally planned for February 2017, this event ironically was canceled two years in a row due to severe weather. Located on the eastern edge of Storm Lake is a water park-themed resort called King’s Pointe Resort. This composition depicts a summer storm as it moves over the Iowa hills and across the normally-placid lake. Distant thunder is first heard as dark clouds approach, covering blue Iowa sky. Soon, the drama of drenching rain, powerful wind, and flashes of lightening is represented in an aggressive minor melody. Changes in intensity common to a Midwest storm is reflected within the composition including a quiet respite in the middle and storm-like thunderous percussion breaks. Fully accessible by music ensembles from middle school on up, Storm at King’s Pointe is a nice addition to any concert band program, delighting both players as well as the audience.

This piece won second prize in the 2018 NATS Art Song Composition Competition.This song cycle is, in part, a meditation on what it means to be a mortal being who exists in time. The first and last movements each present a different take on looking back, and the cycle moves backward in time from evening to mid-day to dawn. Images from each poem are woven into the music; the first movement is full of sewing imagery, so in places the pianist imitates the ebb and flow of a sewing machine's ostinato. This piece was written as part of the 2018 Composing In The Wilderness workshop and reflects our journey down the Koyukuk River in arctic Alaska.It is written in three movements: Mvt. I - Grey-Green Sandstone and a Bitter Current: the beginning of our journey; the roaring, bitterly cold water, the colossal mountains, the sandstone river pebbles, and even the clouds all seemed to be a stormy hue of grey-green. Mvt. II - Mica and Quartz: calmer waters further south, where pulverized mica shimmered in the sunlit river, and massive veins of milky quartz streaked the cliffs. Mvt. III - Petrified Wood: the boreal forest, where chunks of ancient, unbreakable petrified wood and infigo granite dotted the black sand beaches, while layers of exposed permafrost showed thousands of years of history.Written for flute (concert and alto), clarinet (Bb and bass), violin, cello, and percussion.

Includes score and parts: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax 1, Alto Sax 2, Bb Trumpet, Trombone (or Baritone), Mallets, Bass Drum, and Cymbals. When I arranged this, I only had early elementary clarinet players so that part is entirely written below the break. It can be taken up an octave for more advanced players. There is a flute solo for your best flute player, it could also be omitted if necessary. The mallet part could also be omitted in a pinch. It Is Well With My Soul is a hymn penned by hymnist Horatio Spafford and composed by Philip Bliss. First published in Gospel Songs No. 2 by Ira Sankey and Bliss (1876), it is possibly the most influential and enduring in the Bliss repertoire and is often taken as a choral model, appearing in hymnals of a wide variety of Christian fellowships. Horatio Spafford's original lyrics are included below. Hildavio has played woodwinds for many leading shows in Los Angeles (including Sunset Blvd, Fiddler on the Roof.), and performed with many musical stars, including the Percy Faith orchestra. ABOUT the composer: Brad Powell (aka The Candlelight Guitarist) began guitar at age ten, inspired by The Beatles. At 15, he became a protégé of jazz guitarist Joe Pass, and later studied classical guitar under Vincent Macaluso, and at California State University, Northridge under Ronald Purcell, with a master class under Andrés Segovia. Brad was featured performing Gerald Wilson's Sonata for Guitar and Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, with the composer conducting. Brad was mentored in composition by David Rose (composer for Little House on the Prairie). Brad has composed music for TV, including Hill Street Blues and The 'A' Team, working with Mike Post. Brad has ten albums as The Candlelight Guitarist. When not making music, Brad is often out hiking with his four dogs. Brad also played as the solo guitarist for Disney's Princess Breakfast Adventure at Disney's Grand Californian Resort by Disneyland (March 2019-January 2024), providing music for the Disney Princesses (Belle, Tiana, Jasmine, Rapunzel, Mulan, Aurora, Ariel, Pocahontas, Cinderella, and their friends and guests).
